Salisbury Station 1 Forces Accident

A Viewer Wrote: The fire truck was behind a vehicle at a red traffic light. They turned on their lights and siren, which forced/encouraged the vehicle in front of him to proceed to get out of their way when another vehicle came through their green light and struck the vehicle trying to get out of the way. Unfortunately the vehicle in front of the fire truck is likely at fault but the fire truck should've known better and should've waited for the light to change. I forget to mention that the firemen had just walked out of the Acme with a shopping bag in their hands.

  1. I hope you stuck around to tell the police what you have said here.

  2. Then spend an inordinate about of time at the supermarket.

I travel a lot and have yet to see, in any other community, a firetruck being used to go grocery shopping.

Their reasoning for this is complete and utter bs.

    2. It isn't the community. Its the select yahoos who don't live in Salisbury and constantly complain about the administration and all the blue that resides within.

  6. Maryland law says you are to move/pull over for emergency equipment & other vehicles with "flashing" warning lights. The car that got hit was right to move. Car that hit them was wrong!

  7. According to Maryland law, you move/get out of the way of emergency vehicles and other transportation modes that have flashing lights -- ie tow truck. The car legally moved out of the way. The other car should NOT have moved.

  8. No worries that fire truck was an allowed to leave the scene and proceed to the other call not when they witness to call the dumba$$ driving Or officer in charge won’t be at fault you’re right it will be the driver but they’ll be able to tell them that the guys were just at the grocery store shopping in a rush to hurry up and get out of the parking lot to turn to service and to go on a call they had while in the store

  10. This aggravates me so bad. You see these jerks riding around, using fuel, all day, every day. Go to the fire palace where you belong, wash the trucks, shine them up, cook your food or have food delivered but quit wasting fuel on riding up and down the roads

  12. Yep, I heard the fake officer while listening to my radio, I mean "acting Lieutenant" call it in. They were chasing a F*****g ambulance call that they weren't even dispatched on.

    Good catch there, Sir/Madame!

It should be noted that it wasn't the real Station 1 volunteers that temporarily go by Station 13.

It was the paid firemen and just imagine this, they are hiring 12 more of them paid firemen with some of that free grant money

  13. The real question is where was the fire vehicle going that was so important.

  14. Why did the idiot proceed? You are suppose to just pull to the right and stop! Nothing here, sadly the driver of the car didn't know what to do! Hope he has insurance....Police will laugh at this one.

    1. They could not proceed.
The light was red and on coming traffic was heavy, there was nowhere for them to go. After the firetruck sounded their second blast from their extremely loud horn the white car pulled out into traffic that did not stop!

  16. The firetruck / emergency vehicle are not allowed to run a red light by law. They are supposed to slow down and proceed with cation when safe. That is the law. But these hot dogs want to act important and feel they are GOD and can do what they want. Blame the riding around by Firetrucks and EMS on Rick Pollitt / Mayor / City Council and Fire Chief at the time for building the new Firehouse on an old dump with only one basic access to the City. Rt 50 Bridge at Mill St or Naylor Mill Rd west of the City. Piss poor location for the safety of the public. This was a major kickback for an ex-council member along with the Mayor and Rick Pollitt at the time. That is why they are always riding around so they will have a quicker response.

  17. Drove by shortly after it happened. The fire truck was in the middle of the intersection. One car was in the center also. Airbags gone off and car badly damaged. The other car to it's right had some damage to the driver's side front end only. Hard to say who did what. However, isn't your car supposed to be hit at a certain speed and head on before the airbags explode. What a mess. Law suit. Ps anyone hurt?

  18. In most modern municipalities fire and rescue vehicles are equipped to to change the traffic signals too pass through and also in stated places people have the good sense to pull over stop and let them. What is anyone in a hurry to get to in Salisbury that they can't wait ?

  19. I watched the engine from Headquarters, when it was still downtown, pull up to a stoplight and manually turn on the opticon device to make the light turn green so they didn’t have to wait. I looked over and the officer was Jimmie Gladwell. I’ve known him for years. Both the engineer and Gladwell were laughing. It was a total abuse of power. I called in a complaint. Typical, nothing was ever done.

    1. That’s because the Fire Department employers act like a bunch of entitled babies. They come on here and threaten the public if anyone questions them or their behavior. Instead of listening to what the public says and admitting their deficiencies and/or modifying their behavior, they NEVER admit they are wrong and immediately become defensive and threaten the public to “not show up if your house is on fire”. They need to accept their shortcomings and improve their public image. Acting like a bunch of babies on social media only denigrates their image.

Red lights and sirens do not give a fire truck or a police car the right of way. They have to slow down and proceed with caution. Know the law or STFU.

Not exactly. It's more complicated than that.

The Move Over law states that if an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road with flashing lights on you are to move over and give them a safe amount of room. That law has nothing to do with blowing throw an intersection.

I agree that the fire truck should have had some respect and safely moved through the intersection. I'm pretty sure they blew the siren, air horns and Federal Q siren and scared the sh!t out of that driver. I've seen them doing that all the time. Not to mention that the officer was a fake officer with no experience. They call them "Action Lieutenants."

The least discipline the driver and fake officer should get is time off with no pay.

You are 100% correct. Most all car accidents like the one this fire truck is responding to does not need a fire truck and most of the patients can walk to the ambulance. Most don't even need an ambulance.

Fire Alarms are always false calls.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Letter to the Editor

Do you know how many of the Automatic Fire Alarms that the Salisbury Fire Department are dispatched to are actual fires? NONE! Not one automatic fire alarm has been a true emergency. That's why they call them "False Alarms." These calls should be prioritized and none of them should get a fire truck responding with lights and sirens.

Do you know how many car accidents the Salisbury Fire Department responds to are actual true emergencies needing a fire truck and an ambulance? Less than 5 are dispatched as an MVC and really needs a paid fire crew. Rarely does an MVC require a fire truck or an ambulance? Most of the patients can walk to the ambulance or drive by personal vehicle.

What the Salisbury Fire Department is doing now is sending a Fire Truck, a Ladder Truck, an Assistant Chief and sometimes a Deputy Chief. What a Freaking waste of tax dollars and resources.

The Salisbury Fire Department ran off the Volunteers and all 3 stations and now they are trying to justify the jobs of the paid firefighters. Most all car accidents or "MVC's" do not need a fire truck and only an ambulance for minor injuries. There is rarely entrapment or a fire so a fire truck is not needed. Now the Salsbury Fire Department is self-dispatching a second fire engine or ladder truck and an Assistant Chief on all car accidents on the Salisbury Bypass. They will count the number of fire engine responses, the ladder truck responses and the Assistant Chief responses and then they with meet with the Mare and County Executive and lie about needing more manpower and money from the county because of the added up total of responses. They will "renegotiate" the Fire Service Agreement and try to justify getting more money to pay for the 12 paid firemen they are getting with the Grant Money.

Mark my word and you will see.

Think about this. The Salisbury Fire Department and the Mare and City Council hire 24 paid firemen in less than 5 years to respond on all those fake fire alarms and BS car accidents that do not need a fire truck.

Why did the City hire 24 paid firemen and never advertised for paid Paramedics. One thing for sure is the ambulance needs staffing, but the City of Salisbury hasn't hired paramedics in many years. You can justify paid paramedics but you can't justify paid firemen. Twenty four paid firemen and no paid paramedics. Yeah, don't feed us this bullsh!t that they are all "cross-trained" because they are not and the need is for more paid paramedics, not paid firemen.

Do you think the Salisbury Police Department increased police officers by 24? NO! The last time I heard they were down police officers and crime is skyrocketing and out of control.

So when you go to the Polls on Tuesday to vote you need to keep in mind that Jack Heath voted twice to increase the paid firemen but totally neglected the paid paramedics and the Salisbury Police Department where there are always many heart attacks and an enormous amount of crime in this city. Jack Heath failed the citizens of Salisbury and Wicomico County TWICE by not looking out for our safety and quality of life.

Please vote AGAINST Jack Heath and cast your vote for Bob Culver.

Um..No one is against first responders. We are against these idiots that don't even live in our community and hired by idiot mayors like Barrie Parsons Tilghman, Jim Ireton and Jake Day and wannabe real fire chiefs like David See, Rick Hoppes and now John Tull.

By the way Jake Day, Rick Hoppes and John Tull ran off the real first responders that we supported.

If you don't understand or like it tough titty!

  28. I see these so called hero's, police too, using their lights to get through traffic. Saw the Snow Hill ambulance doing it yesterday. Have seen police trainees doing it. They have no right to do this and it needs to stopped. You DO NOT get special treatment because of your job choice.
