Yeah, Well Attended My Butt!

I guess if we too started cropping pictures like others have we too could make it LOOK busy. However, SBYNews is the Anti Christ for delivering the TRUTH instead. Face it, the Salisbury Maryland National Folk Festival Sucked.

  1. You seem triggered by this festival. Maybe you need a nice safe space.

Very easy to be an arm chair quarter back but the two facts I know is
The two people I know who went said it was nice, not great but nice
    The weather was a factor,
    Here is my opinion:
There may not have been a headliner but it was almost impossible to see who was playing and what type of music was where. Solution once the over played ad was played on the radio station announce there is (example) jazz for New Orleans or another station for have the tag line including Blue Grass from Kentucky.
I believe the title Folk Festival was required but it is actually a sampling of International Music I think that would have helped to clarify somethings,
I love festivals but I think this was not a very well thought out idea and despite the loud ads and ongoing hoopla it was not on a good foundation and there are probably prewritten press releases/excuses
True example of bad thought and work for the wrong reasons

  3. Joe, what's the story on the entertainers fees? Did all of them travel here and perform for free or did they get paid? If they got paid where did the money come from? Nobody seems to know what the story is with this.

  5. Having actually gone for a few hours Saturday, I can say it was actually a nice event. Was it well attended, No! But I guess there's always next year, and hopefully for the sake of the Bury, better weather!

How much of a financial loss was it, I guess we will never know. I feel sorry for the guys and gals begging for the $30,000 of bucket donations. Any idea where that money was intended to go?

  6. With the weather forecast, looks like downtown will be disrupted for another week or so.

  8. My family went on Saturday... it seemed like a descent crowd for a terrible weather day. To be honest, my wife and son had a wonderful time, and I'm happy it came to Salisbury.

I absolutely would go again. Wonderful family fun.

  9. 2:13 - I adore how you snowflakes are trying to appropriate our terms for your constant, pathetic tantrums. Freedom of the press, moron! However, this site tells the truth, without glossing over facts with feel good nonsense and lies from our government representatives that will be reported on else where.

Your comment only makes me click on this site more! I love reading your moronic trolling! There really are some sad sacks out there (You). Let's face it, you purposely came here and spent your time to troll, on a weekend no less. That is about the saddest, yet funniest thing about message boards. Congratulations, SJW, you're an idiot!

  10. 3:05 One of the performers was asked if he played for free. His response was he was being paid well. Someone should look into what the performers were paid and if our tax money was used to pay them.

  11. Ben in wicomico county , I agree with you some-what , however , it was not a folk festival as I know it , it was a mixture of multi-cultural song and other , what I call crap. A very mad county resident I am.

  12. Im one of those fools who pays city taxes and does not have a vote...but that is a different subject. ?how is it even possible/legal that a city government forcibly takes my money and arbitrarily spends it on something that has reasonable benefit for me at all? The founding fathers would not put up with this. This should be a crime....AKA robbery...
If I did the same thing I'd be in jail.

  13. It would help the city of Salisbury to be called Salisbury. I'm not picking on anyone, but the bury is demeaning for sure. Sounds awful. I was born in Salisbury and still remain here. This term goes through me like crazy. Why do people have to do their own thing? Nothing in the history of this town says the name has been change to the goofy ass term the bu-y. Yes, I'm ole school.

  14. The lack of traffic on the roads, except where they were blocked off. Empty hotel rooms, I called around and found vacancies at every hotel I called from Wed. till today, about 8 or 9 I called.. Lack of people at the event, the pictures show that, and my own trip don there at 6 last night the entire place was empty except for the stage by RT.13. This was not well attended.
If you think it was, you never went to a Dogwood festival (Salisbury festival) back in the 90's when 30,000 people showed up, and you had no where to park, had shuttles from the civic center and had trouble walking so as not to run into someone. The block party on Friday nights back at the Salisbury festivals in the 90's, had more people than this Festival did in all 3 days.

  16. 2:39- Arm chair quarterback? I bet you thought your post had wit and grit, but you are really just trying to launch a pathetic trolling thread!

Truth hurts, doesn't it, Cup Cake? If you think Joe sits back and delivers jack squat, then why are you here? It should be beneath your time and efforts if that is what you truly think! I have never seen a more patriotic citizen who has also earned his keep, and wants only to better the community. If that makes you uncomfortable with him exposing Salisbury's gov't Bull, then deal with it! Subscribe to Amazon and binge on Gilmore Girls, Snowflake!

BTW, It's Been, not Ben! Are you referring to a man named Ben in your passive aggressive diarrhea of poorly written condescension? You agree with Joe in the poorly planned crap fest, but you are trying to belittle him at the same time? That's a big fail! Work on your diatribe, and try again later. That's my suggestion to you.

    Peace out, SJW.

  19. 2:39- You know facts based on two people who went? Sorry, you lost your argument with your first statement! You are defending a festival that you couldn't be bothered to attend, but you are chastising the very site that said that would happen! I hate that I am quoting pop culture, but are you stupid, or something?

  20. I see some people saying the concert was ok and that we here are all whiners. Welcome to the blog, I know this is your first time.
For the amount of money spent on this concert and the over budget, poor quality, and past deadline town preperations, we could have hired a fleet of busses to take everyone in the city of Salisbury down to Fayetteville, NC where they have the stages, the infrastructure, the lodging and the transportation to host an event like this. Jake Day might as well have put in a bid to host the winter Olympics in Salisbury as unequipped as we are for an event the size described in it's sales pitch.
It cost taxpayers $98k to put colorful tape on the parking garage. I think the river stage (which has to be torn down) cost $2 million. So being VERY generous let's say you had 1000 out-of-towners show up. They would each have to spend over $2000 in town to offset the expense on the tax base. That is just based off 2 projects and an inflated attendance number. Add the river fountain, the tents, the chairs, the advertising, the police and city workers overtime, the acts, the downtown construction. I bet this would be a loss even if 30,000 people showed up.
Jake Day did this to boost his own reputation. He goes so far as to post bold faced lies online about the success of this event. He knows the locals know better, but this is not for you, it's for his future resume because he plans to climb the ladder by standing on your backs. He is trying to make a name for himself by throwing YOUR money around and you should be FURIOUS!

  21. 4:47- Funny, your comments are as negative as a troll can provide. Good defense. Not! I apologize to everyone for that dated comeback, but not to you, dipsh!t.

My solid comeback would be, "Short of everything, most importantly a means to pay for this debacle.

I wish I could apologize for supporting the people who predicted this insane cost on tax payers. Nope! You fail to acknowledge this. Millions! You are fine with that? Come on, you pitiful snowflake!

It hurts being incredibly wrong, doesn't it Jakie boy, doesn't it, idiot?!

    ReplyDelete
  22. well, most of you people would be happy with a banjo, washboard, and a couple of spoons since you have no real world experience to compare it to. and that's fine. If you're happy, you're happy. The bigger issue is did it deliver? Did it match the hype? Did it make smallsbury look like a foolish hick town? You be the judge.

  23. Reading through 8:59 makes me feel even stronger about my point. This event was so huge, it entailed so much, that it should have gone to the people of Salisbury for voting. Unbelievable.

  24. @10:09 WTF are you running on about?? Who really cares about acts like "throat singers" or mariachi bands?? This shit cost Salisbury millions of dollars and for what?? It literally made Jake Day and Salisbury city government look like idiots and proved neither of the so called leaders or Caroline O'Hare had a clue on what it actually takes to make something like this successful.

7:05 It's Ben and I have not tried to or will ever need to belittle Joe Albero. This is proof that the ideas of the officials are not directed to the betterment of the City just themselves. SJW we all have opinions and this is where we are not censored

  26. The main difficulty Sby faces is any leadership with intelligence. This true going back generations now.
This festival was touted as going to be a huge economic boost for Sby. That meaning people were going to travel long distances to attend. Local attendees don't have that effect, since they don't stay in hotels and would be using services anyway.

  27. I feel sorry for the artists. Whether they did/or did not get paid it is still a sad turnout for them. I'm sure they are passionate about their talents. It's not their fault that the city lacks organization.

    1. Don’t be. They got paid regardless of the sparse audience attendance. That’s why they collect guarantees, just in case of some incompetent bumblers are planning the show. They were probably pissed about being in the sticks. Who can blame them. Salisbury is no Greensboro.

  28. My fear is the residents of the city of Salisbury will have to foot the bill for this mess as well as possible the residents to Wicomico County.

And this is a three year contract? I would get out of this right away before the taxpayers are forced yet again to pay for this fiasco!

    1. Well your fear is reality. You’re already paying for it. Notice the muskers are giving out tickets for stupid violations? Noticing a huge police presence since they began to plot this disaster.

  29. The fact is, Salisbury is not the place for a major festival of any music genre let alone Folk music. No big headliner would come to Salisbury because you have no services. No Hotels with room service or other services most touring artists require. No Real Music stores to get supplies if needed. You don't have the things a place like Greensboro has, so why you all thought this festival was going to be the barnstormer everyone touted is a mystery! Besides, looking at the line up - where was the Folk? It looked like a mixture of completely unrelated events and shows. None of which really belonged on the same stage together. Seriously? Even from 124 miles away, I knew this thing was going to be a big bust. That's what happens when you elect a granola eating Birkenstock wearing wannabe who doesn't have a clue much less common sense.

    1. Who brought the homemade cookies and whose mommy sewed all the costumes? Backyard production with a hefty price tag. And you all paid for it regardless of whether or not you attended. All that so called festival did was provide traffic jams for everyone trying to get somewhere on Friday afternoon. Where was Ms. MTV during all this? In a crying closet with her comfort dog? Shite.

  31. Why did the screw up the crosswalk in front of the library for this garbage? You can paint the whole damn town in rainbows but it didn’t produce an audience. Rainbows and unicorns don’t make for a successful event. Experience and know-how is what makes or breaks an event. If anyone in the Day-care really has any experience in show promotion, they never would’ve agreed to do the festival in the first place. Put that in your rainbow bonnet and smoke it! Inhale it hard, Jake baby.
