As a reminder, all Ocean City roads will be designated as a Special Event Zone starting tomorrow, September 25. This means that speed limits will be reduced on Coastal Highway to 30 MPH and fines for speeding violations will be increased on all Ocean City roads. The Special Event Zone designation will end on Sunday, September 30 then begin again for the Endless Summer Cruisin’ event on October 2-7.
There should be a lot of "no shows" and let OC lose more money. OC does not deserve to have special events since they have no consistent policy on nothing except high cost of everything that raises 10% or more every season. This is not counting the outrageous parking restrictions / cost. Where is the Family atmosphere?
When the mass of tourists are chased away, the money launderers wont be able to shuffle their cash around, they will stop paying the insanely priced leases for OC buisnesses, who's property is owned by the OC politicians. Keep it up guys, I can't wait to see the golden goose die.
They same people that are against this enforcement of what had become a lawless, out-of-control event, are most certainly the same people that "hated" the fence down the middle of Coastal. (By the way: The entire summer season - NO fatalities - NO injuries - in the area where the fence is installed.) OC was right about the fence, and they are right about coming down hard on lawbreakers.
You should have been here last year when the “out of towners” did everything they could to be disrespectful and disruptive - we don’t need their ilk and they can keep their money - you make it sound like if they don’t come for this h2oi mess the town will go under....send them to NJ
Rickie you are over reacting once again. You should have had the enhanced law enforcement YEARS ago when locals begged for it. But no. Now maybe they are here, there is no H2Oi and wasted resources (tax payer funds) are now again the norm. Winefest this Fri and Sat...hope your extra law enforcement officials ARE watching for those who have the urge to drive drunk. Remember, buzz driving is DRUNK driving - per the PSA. Practice what you preach or do certain named individuals STILL receive special treatment?
You really need to leave Rickie and let someone else lead. You are old in more ways than just age!
8:45... You said, "...there is no h20i..."? Believe me, they are ALL coming here. I just cruised Coastal (around 11PM). Not too many convention cars - but there is a major LE presence. Within 20 blocks I saw three pullovers. This weekend will weed-out the crazies - and the participants that are just here to see the cars and have some fun (and not break laws) will come back - and be welcomed by the town. It's the exact scenario that was done years ago with Bike Week, which has now become the 3rd or 4th busiest weekend of the year, and (except for the noise sometimes!) widely accepted by the locals.
Sure I can read. You can, too. Just go to the handful of social media sites for H20i and (after reading them) YOU tell me there's no "event". No matter what you call it, there's going to be 1000+ cars in Ocean City. That sounds like an event - even a special event - to me. It doesn't have to be a sanctioned situation to be called an "event". These kids with pretty cool modified cars (and, sadly, the few idiot hangers-on that come with them) are coming. Coming in mass numbers. What do you want to call it? A "get-together"?
The so called out of towners just need to go hang out and do their thing in West Oc. No special laws just for them there, just the same laws there are for everybody else.
...welcome by the town. Rickie and prior admins have had the opportunity to reach out and partner with the H20i folks and decided against it. Of course that lack of hospitality has backfired and put us in the current situation. IF City Hall would not cater to the minority of complainers and pretty much say what is true - HEY, we are a resort town and any opportunity to make money during the offseason we will do it with open arms - ALL would be better off. But until then the "special events" terminology will be used by LEOs either as a pain in the pocket or a deterrent. Unfortunately a few locals will get swept up in the "special events" particulars and they will complain. It will be interesting IF the local papers will talk about it.
EITHER way, another weekend, another official sponsored event taking place (WINEFEST). We'll see how the beautiful weekend goes!
Um, what? Were you hear last year when thousands of these kids literally took over the town - they staged via social media, and despite the best efforts of LE (who had significant intelligence on this but few legal tools to combat it) the stance crowd ruled the town. Business parking lots were over run (CVS/WAWA lot on 120th), trash was everywhere, along with smoking tires, screaming and chanting 20 somethings (but I must admit the bananas WERE pretty funny), and a complete breakdown and disregard for any rules at all - I mean really, are you serious with your comments? I live here and it was off the hook - I NEVER want to see that again - screw the money, the legislature has done the right thing in my book
8:13 am and I just got to work on 33rd st - all those little cars are at the hotels now and the police are everywhere - they are not joking about the 30 mph so if you are local I would be really careful the next two weeks
All the OCPD eats a— graffiti? Cops in OC consume a lot more than that when they eat breakfast lunch or dinner in town. Employees are on to them. You can not imagine. Most cops food is rolled across the kitchen floor before it gets plated and served. I would eat NOTHING but pre packaged food if I was a cop in OC. Lol! Payback is gross!
Poor SHA. guys taking down the 30 mph signs today and will have to do it all over again tomorrow.... at least they will have decent weather to do it in..... hey Mathias/Carozza - you twoissed a few things in your legislation.... ooopsie
But there is no event. H20i is not an event by OC.

ReplyDeleteOh boo hoo - OC drives the economy in Worcester county and much of the lower shore
DeleteJust left West O at 1:15 - there is most definitely a law enforcement presence
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to stay away!
ReplyDeleteGOOD I hope all speeders are getting a ticket.
ReplyDeleteCops are already out and about. Lots of em'.
