A Viewer Writes: Maryland State Fair

Hey Joe, I know this is off topic, but did you know the Maryland State Fair is going on now? WBOC and WMDT always rave about the DELAWARE state fair, but never a mention about the MARYLAND state fair.

Did you know local farmers here on the Eastern Shore compete at this fair? As a Maryland state employee, I get updates about this, but never see any mention from the local media!

I know it is on the western shore, but to me, this is just another example of how the local media fail to report news and happenings on the Maryland side of the Delmarva Peninsula or happenings on the Virginia side of the Eastern Shore.

  1. The Maryland State Fair is in Timonium. Why would local new stations even mention anything 3 hours away? It's not relevant. But the DE state fair is, since it's less than an hour away for most people in their broadcasting radius.

    1. Both the local news stations cover all sorts of stories that are “across the bay”

  2. I see what you are saying but who really wants to go to Carroll county crossing the bay bridge and fight all the traffic?

  3. I agree. For years I travelled to Timonium to compete for in 4H competition, with a lot of other local kids. I don't ever remember any local media being there, or even expressing interest locally.

  5. Doesn’t other TV stations comment about OC and there 3 hours away... Doesn’t our stations comment about NY, Richmond, NJ and there 3 hours away? I just don’t get why our local starions can’t report Md news also...

The reason is, It's the Maryland state fair! Local people here in Maryland compete there. It is a big deal like the Delaware state fair. If the Delaware state fair is such a big deal to the local stations, then why in the hell isn't the Maryland state fair just as important?

This is the double standard that we are getting, especially from WBOC. They aren't reporting local happenings or events on the Maryland side of the eastern shore.

Maryland farmers, and locals are showcased in events there, but not one word is spoken or reported. Been this way for years!
This needs to stop, or they need to get the hell out of Maryland!

  8. It's a state fair. Every station and paper in the state should boost its attendance by at least a feature piece and some reminders.

And from Salisbury, Dover is over an hour and a half!
Delawares news leader needs to leave Salisbury Maryland.

They don't represent Maryland on the Eastern Shore.
Tired of the lack of any serious reporting on either Maryland or the Eastern Shore of VA.

  10. When Tom Draper died, they were Johnny on the spot in Baltimore, reporting from the hospital. Funny how they can do this, but the rest of the time, it's all Delaware all the time.

Or chopper silly flying over the Hyatt in Cambridge!
The only time the Eastern shore gets any mention, if its the outdoors!

  11. Because WBOC and WMDT are in Maryland. I think both state fairs are equally important. So what the problem is with reporting on both.
90% of the entire newscast is Delaware news. I really don't give crap about what's going on in Dover or Wilmington DE. But Laurel, Seaford I do. But also local news.

  12. You have us mistaken for Marylander's. We are Eastern Shore men and ladies.

  13. Could care less about that fair. If I want to be robbed, I will go to Baltimore and let the Baltimorons do it.
