Team from Puerto Rico to play in Fruitland Baseball tournament this weekend

SALISBURY, Md. – Fruitland Baseball is on the rise in Wicomico County, with a total of 16 tournaments scheduled in the 2018 season. Play began in March and will conclude in November. Each tournament draws from 40 to 70 teams, and thus far, the combined estimated economic impact is $8 million.

Fruitland Baseball’s tournaments typically draw teams from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This weekend’s End of Summer Showdown is unique in that Fruitland Baseball will welcome its first team from Puerto Rico.

The team, Top Rank Baseball PR, under the leadership of Barto Torres Lopez, will arrive in Maryland via Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Friday and make its way down to Salisbury from there. The team is playing in the 14 and under division.

The tournament runs from Friday-Sunday, Aug. 10-12. Play for all of Fruitland Baseball’s tournaments, including the End of Summer Showdown, takes place at the Fruitland Little League Complex and the newly expanded Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex.
