‘Shouldn’t Be News to Anybody’ That D.C. Derailed Parade, OMB Chief Says

There’s no surprise in Washington, D.C., officials not wanting “to help” President Donald Trump “accomplish what he wants to accomplish” or back his military parade, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“If the parade had been canceled purely for fiscal reasons, I imagine I would have been in the room when that was made and I wasn’t,” Mulvaney (pictured above) told “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace. “So my guess is there were other contributing factors.”

Trump initially wanted to hold a Veterans Day military parade in D.C. But anonymous officials told CNBC and ABC News Thursday that the parade would cost an estimated $92 million — much more than the initial $12 million estimate.

Approximately $50 million would be needed to fund the military personnel and equipment costs while $42 million would be required to cover security costs and the costs D.C. would accrue.

The president took to Twitter Friday to rip District officials.

“The local politicians who run Washington, D.C. (poorly) know a windfall when they see it. When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a number so ridiculously high that I cancelled it. Never let someone hold you up!” Trump tweeted.

  2. I can see the cost of this parade being very high, however, why that high? The planes and helicopters are going to be flown anyway. The tanks and trucks are going to driving anyway. The soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are going to be paid anyway.

So other than a little transport cost, security for the city, and inconveniencing a few folks, where are the extraordinary costs coming from?

    Just curious.

  4. If It costs $1.00 It's to expensive. I voted for Trump. But I could not care who is president. This parade is as stupid an idea as I've heard in my 62 years. We don't need to waste money on a military show off parade like a second or third world country.. It could be well spent on many other things.
The one after Desert Storm was a disaster in it destroyed the roads in D.C. where it covered. I lived there and worked for the Defense dept. and saw the destruction done by the military vehicles.
The parade Sounds like something Jake day would do.
