An invasive new tick is spreading in the US

For the first time in 50 years, a new tick species has arrived in the United States — one that in its Asian home range carries fearsome diseases.

The Asian long-horned tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis, is spreading rapidly along the Eastern Seaboard. It has been found in seven states and in the heavily populated suburbs of New York City.

At the moment, public health experts say they are concerned, but not alarmed.

Although domestic U.S. ticks are a growing menace and transmit a dozen pathogens, no long-horned ticks here have yet been found with any human diseases. In Asia, however, the species carries a virus that kills 15 percent of its victims.

  3. That's because a lot of the medical community still don't believe in Lyme disease.

  7. Right the jury is still out on Lyme disease. Most doctors don't believe in chronic Lyme disease because for years it's been the condition du jour for hypochondriacs and pill poppers. Lyme disease, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia are the Big 3 for abuse.

  8. 7:40 sorry to say, you can't treat lyme's, once you have it, you have it and it will flares up when it flares up... All you can do is change your diet and eat healthy and foods that help with joint pain and things like that... What are you goign to do go to the DR, who will give you anti-inflammatory drugs at a high cost? Just eat anti-inflammatory foods, like blueberries and things like that and see how that goes...
