We Can't Afford Ben Jealous

Change Annapolis

Ben Jealous has talked a lot about single-payer healthcare in Maryland, but he hasn't talked about how much that will cost. According to nonpartisan analysts, the answer is... quite a lot.

To pay for his plan, Ben Jealous would have to levy a 10% payroll tax against EVERY business in Maryland. And he'd have to impose a $2,800 tax on EVERY man, woman, and child in the state.

Every Democrat running for State Senate or House of Delegates this year should have to answer the simple question: would you vote to pass this $24 billion plan?

  1. This is how far MD politics have deteriated. No Republican running for Office of Governor. All MD politians steals from Steals from State Employees Retirement Fund without paying back with interest. Cut Health Insurance for medications for Senior retired State Employees. Then give away money to Baltimore City so their politians can line their personal pockets with the grants. They just spend spend spend. They never abide by the balanced budget that never gets submitted without raising taxes. They cannot quit spending tax dollars for their pet projects that do not benefit all Marylanders.

  2. But welfare voters, of which Maryland has many, will vote for anyone that promises them free stuff (from working voters). Just shows who he intends to represent. The taxes would only increase on working voters.

  3. If he is elected and this bullcrap passes. I will be looking for employment in another state.

  4. If Ben is personally going to be the single payer footing the bills he can continue the discussion. Not likely.

So he should shut his pie hole and come back to reality. We had a sneaky politician with big healthcare dreams stuff an incomprehensible plan down our throats in the dark of night. Obamacare has been a runaway cost nightmare. Jealous is nuts, and as noted above, his only chance is showing up on the boardwalk shouting 'More free stuff, more free stuff!'

He'll shake your hand in front of the camera if you're with him for 'More free stuff!'

  9. That number is closer to $18,000 levied on Maryland taxpayers, excluding children, thank you.

  12. 1:30 - right on. I am fortunate to have excellent insurance, however, lately I am finding the wait for doctors appointments getting much longer. Can you imagine what it will be like when the democrats are finished.
