A Comment Worthy Of A Post 6-29-18

Joe,

I can't dare communicate with you via email or identified comments lest my employment with the City of Salisbury be terminated by the quasi-socialist and controlling government of our town. The Daily Times has repeatedly shown it's true colors as a vehicle for the young socialist movement overtaking our community. They have been provided with important information about the present administration and they have declined to publish it for fear of being ostracized by the city administration. Are we living in Russia or Salisbury? So let's address just a few of the issues that you won't hear in the disappointingly biased local media:

- Why is the police department significantly understaffed but has no one hired to attend the next police academy? Has Barbara Duncan and the political elite created a workplace where no one wants to go?

- The Recruitment officer at SPD has always been a lieutenant or sergeant but for the past two years has been filled by a corporal; yet, he has the same job description as his higher paid peers. Is that lawful or fair to pay someone a significantly lesser salary for doing the same duties? Is this part of the recruitment problem?

- There was an internal SPD employee survey done some time ago and the results were damning. There was essentially a vote of no confidence by SPD employees and yet, Mayor Day has chosen to continue with her incompetent "leadership". The Administration promised to release the comments of that survey to all SPD employees, but after realizing the unequivocal negativity, has refused to publish them. That's lying to your people; but it goes untouched.

- The Salisbury Fire Department is paid to eat and sleep. The city also pays a substantial amount for paid firefighters to be enrolled in the Law Enforcement Officers Pension System despite the fact that they have no authority to enforce the laws at hand.

- There is a female employee who has worked at SPD for 44 years, starting as a secretary but presently doing accounts payable, human resources and other important functions. She makes less than $40k per year, less than $1k per year of her service.

  1. Don't you have a union, If you work over 30 days in a higher position you should be getting acting pay and after another time frame would be automatic promotion. That should be in COMAR or the Annotated Code of MD. How is the fire fighters allowed in LEOPS? Has LEOPS changed the criteria for acceptance? Used to be the only ones excepted were Judges and sworn Law Enforcement.

  2. Sounds like sour grapes....Never knew of any workplace that EVERY employee was satisfied with management or the company. This sounds typical of that scenario!

  3. Barbara Duncan is a JOKE. Absolutely NO leadership or communication skills. She has ruined a once proud and effective department through her mismanagement and incompetence.

  4. Dear employee ,
First of all the city police is actually over staffed considering the calls the respond to. The Sheriffs Dept. of Wicomico county responds to many of the call in the city. Sometime the county responds to 100 calls daily in the city.

Salisbury police have always been a starting school for officers , if you will . They stay a while and move on. This is why the Bury is one of the most dangerous cities in the US.. I think it ranks 5th .

As far as recruiting , any rank is as good as it gets .

We all know Ducan was at the bottom of the barrel when they scraped it , she's a top notch loser.

The lady making 44k and is still there , what can I say , she must love her job or she was just grandfathered in with out a degree I would guess.

Salisbury Maryland has sunk to the bottom in the years I've been around here
and you guys had the chance to vote but really screwed up big time. Suffer in silence my friend. I don't live in the city , thank GOD.

  5. Who in their right mind would ever want to be a police officer? Grossly under paid, crspped on by the media, and hated by the majority of the population. Make one move that someone finds offensive and you’re personally and professionally ruined for life. Just like prison guards? Only fools want to work in public safety. Sorry, but the truth hurts.

  6. Best part of the comment - They have been provided with important information about the present administration and they have declined to publish it for fear of being ostracized by the city administration.

That worthless paper hasn't printed anything worth reading for several years.

  7. 6:49 PM what a bunch of passive aggressive dribble.. IDGAS if she has a degree or not she is doing the job and at this point your arrogant comment is not even relevant.

Someone with a degree most likely can't do her job at the advanced level she does.

You can pass me that piece of paper because I have some butt wiping to do and that's all its worth using for at this point in time

  8. The problem is not the SPD the BIG problem is Duncan. They do their jobs and despite hearing her dribble they know the truth is not coming out of her mouth. They have in recent years lost two of their best and most respected officers Steve Sweigert and Rich Weber, I know the officers respected them. But no one can remain under Duncan long. Crime is up dispite the fake figures you see and hear, and the officers have their hearts in it. We need to get rid of these 3 if we are to survive: Chief Duncan, Jake Day and our Governor Hogan. Nothing will change if they are not gone ASAP.

  10. @6:33, So which of the author's statements are not true? Sounds to me like he is exposing the corruption and not complaining about his job.Although it sounds like he's not happy working in an unethical and immoral workplace.Which one of the cockroaches are you running from the Light?

  11. disabled veterans who served their country and are 100% disabled get less than 40 grand a year and they have no choice to even work again. you want to whine about something? whine about the people who have sacrificed every thing and get less than 40 grand a year so that you can work and complain about not getting 40 grand a year. you can improve your life and education and get a job that pays more than 40 grand a year disabled veterans can`t do. disabled vets sacrificed their present and future to ensure that you have a country in which you can make the most of your life. disabled vets are stuck with the crumbs that you whiners are to proud to take.

  12. WCSO makes over 100 calls a day in the city, are you nuts. You can’t count serving papers, they are the only ones that can do that. A lot of other calls come from them patrolling the city. I bet citizens in Parsonsburg and othe r areas in the county would like to see a deputy every now and then

  14. The female employee you refer to, really runs the SPD. And there are higher ups that know it and are afraid of the situation, but can't afford to lose her. She knows the department better than anyone working there including everyone. It will take at least 4 to 5 people to replace all she does. And in fact no one there even knows all she does. Since some work includes things done, before anyone there now worked for the department. Alot of it she also does on her own time for the officers.

  15. Day promised prior to his election to replace her and he has failed that too. I know of someone in the waiting that would take this department to a new level and is waiting for Day to do something. It’s a great department and she needs to know it’s time to move on for the good of the department. I’m sure this person is well qualified and would turn this city around along w the department. Come on Day. Do something right.

  16. Person working for 44 years has to be a simpleton. They capped out on their pension years ago, and are now getting less in hand than they would if retired and collecting social security and their pension.

    -------------------------------------------------

You are so right. As a volunteer I with everything said.

Why do you think the paid firemen are self dispatching themselves on ambulance calls when they are not needed? Job security.

The paid firemen have a nice gym that cost thousands of dollars.

The paid firemen have nice leather rocker recliners in their very nice lounge.

The paid firemen have a very nice kitchen where they prepare nice meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The paid firemen have several Xboxes so that they can play games online all day long on their cushy 24 hours on 72 hours off.

The paid firemen have taxpayer furnished internet service separate from the city so that they can read Albero's blog on their phone or laptops. It's funny to watch the paid firemen go batshit crazy when Cherry Cheeks Townsend doesn't pay the Comcast bill and the internet is cut off.

The paid firemen have their own separate beds in the bunk room so that they can take naps during the day of their 24 hour shifts. As soon as dinner is over they all disapear and hit the bunks until a call comes in.

All 3 fire stations have their own bunk rooms and Comcast internet service along with multiple channels on the TV's.

Who else in the City of Salisbury or the County of Wicomico gets paid to sleep?

I remember when Meinshein had his young twins he had a take home unmarked Crown Vic police car with twin baby seats locked in the back seat. WTF!! The Chief of Police should have been fired for that.

KOLB is a Richard Head and one of the most hated in the SPD.

False burglar alarms don't count either. The County needs to start fining the homeowners for having nuisance broken down alarm systems.

  24. The only paid employees needed in the Salisbury Fire Department are the paid paramedics, well the positions anyway.

Revamp that volunteer division and recruit and retain good volunteers and you won't need so many paid firemen.

    Stop the self dispatching.

    Stop the automatic medical assists.

Stop running on all the BS car accidents.

Think about it, the career/paid firemen really aren't needed. If you get to come into work and part of your job is getting your bunk ready for the "night shift" so they can sleep all night. Typical government job.
