The National Rifle Association marked a milestone in its storied history when it revealed the lobby group now has over 6 million members.
The Second Amendment advocacy group made the announcement on Memorial Day, including its new tally in a tweet that also paid homage to America’s fallen soldiers.
“The six million members of the NRA remember all the brave men and women who died fighting for our country and gave us our freedom,” the tweet read. “We stand with the families and loved ones of these heroes today and every day. They will never be forgotten.”
According to the Daily Caller, the boost in numbers comes on the heels of the political left’s media-hyped push for stricter gun control laws following the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. Since the tragedy, the NRA has been vilified in almost every sense of the word. In a way, the demonization appears to be a blessing in disguise as more Americans concerned about the future of their constitutional rights are joining the group that promises to fight on behalf of them.
The membership surge has been in part attributed to the group’s new leadership, led by President Oliver North. Just in April, the NRA vowed to boost its numbers by 100,000. Apparently, it has far exceeded that goal. The group previously boasted 5 million members.
