Teacher arrested after texting threat of mass shooting

A Las Vegas teacher was arrested this month on terrorist threat charges after she sent texts saying she was forming a plan to shoot up a concert and wanted to empower women to be serial killers.

Leslie McGourty, 48, was exchanging texts with a friend May 16 when she made a threat to “poke a lot of holes in a lot of people” and kill herself, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported, citing her arrest report.

The friend took the texts to cops and McGourty was arrested later that day as she was teaching a physics class at Bonanza High School, the paper reported.

She was accused of targeting a May 19 concert at a downtown bar.

In the texts, McGourty romanticized “being remembered” and said she hoped to start another #MeToo movement “but this time in which women feel empowered enough to become serial killers,” the paper reported.

“A perfect plan with my favorite song surrounded by a bunch of f----- up misfits like I am,” she said in one of the texts, according to the paper.

  3. Is it any wonder the children today are so messed up. We have the mental patients running our schools.

  4. Unbelievable this continues. You cannot "play around" like we once did playing cowboys and Indians. Times are very difficult and "playing" is no longer tolerated.

Sounds harsh, but people have been killed and "playing around" that you want to blow this or kill that, well those days are over!

  5. And you people want to give them guns and allow them to carry in the classroom, rather than putting trained police officers in the schools.

  6. No only qualified one's 11:30. This one would not have made the cut. I bet any lay person off the street could talk with this teacher and tell she was a nut. So... you and your people have the problem doing nothing.

  8. Most people can't even get a CCW in MD, how are teachers going to get a free pass to carry/possess in the classroom and car to and from school. They aren't going to leave guns in the school overnight. BTW 12:48, I am doing something because I have a CCW.

  9. It appears you are not doing anything 4:45. You advise you carry, so you sound negative in others protecting themselves. Times have changed and we have to change with time. You are correct about most can't get a permit in MD. We need to change our attitude on that. Take your carry permit to Annapolis and convince them you are not superior to non-carrying minions of MD and you would be doing something. Thank you for being a good citizen.
