"From Our SHA Live Camera At Sixty Foot Road"

Since when does WBOC own the SHA cameras? Very misleading, false and even a LIE.

  1. That is such an odd intersection. My wife and myself were at the stop sign crossing 50 West headed into Pittsville. There was a white SUV ahead of us at the sign. We saw a lot of cars heading down 50 but for some reason the SUV just pulled out at a casual pace right in the path of this small car. The car was easily doing 55 MPH or more but luckily the SUV stopped before they collided.

We both just sat there stunned that someone could be so reckless but there had to be something that kept them from seeing that car or maybe they were on their cell phone. It was so close to being a disaster.

Sixty Foot Rd. is an extremely dangerous intersection please everyone double, triple check before you cross.

  3. 7:31’s story just proved what most people know about this intersection. It’s not the intersections fault, it’s moron inattentive drivers that are not watching what they’re doing. Everyone else pays the price for their stupidity!

There are a lot of inattentive drivers. Accidents seem to happen more frequently at this intersection than any other one on Route 50. I think it has a lot to do with the angle of the intersection and the visibility, or lack of, out of the passengers side window. Look twice!

Shows what you know. Mr.Know It All, you propose that all the stupid drivers go to that intersection to have accidents and commit suicide, and that the intersection design itself has nothing to do with it. Yeah right, and not why THAT intersection has such a high accident rate, one that is much, much higher than other intersections. You are a buffoon, and ignorant if you think the intersection design has nothing to do with the high accident rate. Does it make you feel bigger than everyone else if you blame the drivers? People don't go to that intersection to have accidents. 7:31 explained it well. It was as if the SUV didn't see the car coming right at them. Yes, they stopped, looked, and then pulled out right in front of the car. That's because, when they looked, they didn't see the car. The intersection's design plays a most important role in that, and that's why the high accident rate. Your theory, blaming the drivers; and that drivers just pull out in front of high speed traffic at all intersections, and that would make that intersection no more dangerous than any other intersection. Statistics support that is just not the case. Its the INTERSECTION that is dangerous, not the drivers, as demonstrated by the high accident rate at that intersection. I guess you don't believe in statistics.

    1. Oh my god you must be a roadway engineer or a some kind precognisent genius!! You know what everybody at that intersection is doing, what they are about to do, and how to stop it?? Are you from the future like a highly advanced super human race?? Please go to the SHA with your knowledge of such things we realistic people cannot grasp!

    2. Omg! Grow some COMMON SENSE! EVERYONE KNOWS that inanimate objects ARE NOT DANGEROUS! INATTENTIVE DRIVERS ARE THE PROBLEM! Listen to you, TRYING to sound so smart looking STUPID. Common sense rules!

Your post shows that you are the one that knows nothing about that intersection. Did you even read 7:31's story? "but there had to be something that kept them from seeing that car" And that something is the intersections design. I know the flaw, but my explanation would be lost on you. It's not like everyone goes to that intersection, with high speed traffic coming at them, stop and text on a phone and pull out in front of the high speed traffic. That is not the case, and has never been reported to be a cause of a single accident at that intersection. They ALL testify that they looked and didn't see the car that hit them. I can take you to that same intersection and show you exactly how you can look up that highway, at oncoming traffic, and not see a car coming at you. But if you think all drivers are stupid, then that would make you stupid too. You don't, and wouldn't, understand.

    1. The A pillar that supports the roof and sides the window obstructs the view of the driver.
Anyone that has half a brain could realize that a portion of their view is obstructed and lean forward and back a bit to better gauge the roadway.
I prefer to think that these things are meant to cleanse the gene pool.

    2. My post is exactly what I see driving around this area everyday. People do not watch what the hell they are doing! It’s like driving their car is the last thing to pay attention to on the list. If you know that this intersection’s design is the flaw and I am wrong then put your money where your mouth is and set up a camera at the intersection but facing the driver side of every vehicle at the stop sign. I will guarantee most drivers will not paying attention or just dart right out!

  7. To the genius engineers who seem to know everything about that intersection. The problem is the angle at which the car is sitting at the stop sign. The "A" pillar of the car, which is the support between the front windshield and the passenger side door, obstructs the drivers vision of a vehicle at a certain point when it is approaching. Therefore the driver thinks the roadway is clear and pulls out. The SHA tried a different angle for the stop lane but it is still not right. That's why there is a sign that says look and look again. Simple solution is look, pull forward slightly and look around the "A" pillar.

  8. 1027, 1038, 1114 - call SHA and let them know what you think. THEN bitch at them when they continue to do NOTHING!

By the way an intersection does NOT kill or hurt people. People kill/hurt other People!.

Thanks for participating, but please go back to doing what you do best - window licking!

You can tell the morons that think the drivers are the reason for high accident rates at a particular intersection until you are blue in the face, but it won't change those morons' attitude that it has nothing to do with the intersections angle(design). They are too dense to analyze the problem and the reason for the high accident rate. If they were actually right, that intersection wouldn't have any higher accident than any other intersection. But they are incapable of comprehending why those accidents keep happening THERE. Those people just like thinking they are better than everyone else. The are geniuses in their own minds.

  10. I know this is not on the Sixty Foot Rd. topic, but about WBOC in general.
    1. they can't spell. Today they had a photo with a caption and the word "Boarwalk" in Ocean City.

    2. Yesterday they were talking about water in Chincoteague & the caption said Chincoteague, MD. They evidently didn't know what state they were in when they did that story.

You can't quarantine squat! I wish you weren't anonymous because I would want you to put your money where your mouth is on that "guarantee." I would put big money on that you are wrong, so very wrong (I need a new truck). You are the idiot if you actually think people are just running the stop sign or not looking before crossing a dual highway with 55-70 MPH traffic coming at them. They all look, and then go. You don't need a camera, just go watch. What "happens in your area everyday" is not what's happening at that intersection.

    1. Clearly you haven’t been near that intersection in years because I can clearly cross 50 there and see perfectly. Maybe you should open an eyesight clinic there and perform vision tests since you know people can’t see vehicles coming at them.

You see, the SHA already knows what we "precognisent geniuses" are talking about. Its a shame that you don't. The problem for the SHA is money. To fix the problem that you cannot comprehend will take a very large amount of highway funds. They cannot build an overpass at every dangerous intersection, nor can they put traffic lights up, willy-nilly, on a high speed dual highway. J turns are the most cost effective way to solve the kind of design problem that intersection has, but the public usually resists them and try to demand the more expensive fixes. It is a complex problem that will take a lot of money to fix, and there is a finite amount of highway funds to spread out across the whole state. The priority for these kind of highway modifications usually require the politics of public pressure, or an extraordinary amount of fatalities, or the death of a prominent citizen at the intersection. You must not have been around long if you don't know how these things have to be resolved.

WTF! I haven't seen one comment that says that the intersection kills people. Where did you see that? Do the words change meaning from the screen to your brain? It is an inherently dangerous intersection because of a design flaw. That doesn't mean the intersection kills people, just that it is dangerous, and requires more vigilance to safely cross than other intersections. It has a high accident rate, and the SHA knows that. BTW, neither of the comments you take issue with said anything about the "intersection" killing or hurting people. You try to chastise over fiction in your head. Go back to playing games on your computer.

You say "simple solution," but a driver doesn't know when they don't see the car coming at them when they look, then cross. They don't see it, get it? To them, the coast is clear. They looked and nothing was there, so they turn their attention to driving across the highway. Its like the old saying "you don't know what you don't know."

    1. That's why you have to look twice sometimes. It might tell you that in your drivers handbook that you received before getting your drivers license.

  15. To all I said over 6 years ago on this blog that the intersection was flawed because of the angle of the intersection blocking the A pillar. That being said the bigger problem is with the 20% of the drivers with licenses who can't drive. If when approaching the intersection you look to see the oncoming traffic (and actually note the cars coming down the road) and then look when you come to a stop and then when the road is clear you get your butt across the road then I guarantee you will never be in an accident at that intersection. Unfortunately just as there will always be a poverty rate of 20% because 20% of the population is of low intelligence (bell curve) there will always be accidents because 20% of the drivers are brain dead.

  16. 9:54 Not all cars have a problem. I have one car that I can see clearly out of at the intersection and one car that has a blocked view at the intersection. Maybe you shouldn't make ASSumptions.

  17. 10:09 Unfortunately you are incorrect. Inanimate objects are dangerous in the hands of idiots. Only in the hands of responsible and trained individuals are they not dangerous.
