Executive Culver Responds To Daily Times BOGUS Article

In response to the original article in The Daily Times this morning “Salisbury Volunteer firefighters get no funds in Wicomico Budget”.

I would like to clarify that the Fire Service Agreement negotiated between the City of Salisbury and Wicomico County took into consideration the volunteers at both Station 2 and Station 16. If you reread the article you will see that Mayor Jacob Day said “the two remaining companies in Salisbury, Stations 2 and 16 will no longer receive county appropriations. Instead, more money will go directly to the city operating budget.” The committee who negotiated the agreement included Julia Glanz, Jacob Day, Jack Heath, Rick Hoppes, Marty Skarson, Chris Hopkins, Bob Culver, Wayne Strausburg, David Fitzgerald, David Shipley & Ernie Colburn. At Tuesday’s County Council’s meeting, the president of the Wicomico Fire Chief’s Association, Shanda Perry, stated Stations 2 and 16 are no longer members of the organization.

I have great appreciation for the services these men and women provide to our community.

Station 2 and 16 need to speak with Mayor Day about this issue.

  1. it's not surprising. The daily slime rag is in it for the worthless Jake Heath. the leftists that they are. Jake and Jake will finish off the city and county partnering up against the people of the city and county. A full free ride to do what ever they want. Look at who we have running for county council. If Heath is elected bend over and open your wallets.

  2. Day is trying to make Heath seem a better candidate for County Executive than he is.

  3. Every chance they get they write bold faced lies about the County Executive. Heath has his own PR machine with that rag . Its a shame.

  4. The Daily Times is sinking to new lows.

If the Daily Times chooses to publish an editorial it does not agree with, it reposts it on facebook with derogatory remarks opening it up to their leftist, globalist followers to take pot shots.

  6. I guess they will have to do with the other volunteer department do. FUND RAISERS! Powellville does dinners, Willards does dinners and bingo, Pittsville does Bingo, Hebron does the carnival, Sharptown does a carnival. Parsonsburg used to do a haunted hay right. Not sure how they are raising funds now. So it is up to the volunteers in Salisbury to do fund raisers also.

If money designated for Volunteer Fire Companies do not go to them then that money should be mandated to be returned to the County, The County then can redistribute that money to other County Volunteer Fire Departments. The County Executive should not be contributing County tax dollars to the City budget. With stupid expenditures such as this will make the next elections be interesting since my County tax dollars should never be given to the City of Salisbury. The City should be sued for unpaid bills they owe the County and a breach of contract they have with the County.

    1. City taxpayers also pay county taxes. It creates somewhat of a disparity for city tax payers. While the money provided to the city by the county shoul included distribution of funds to the volunteer departments, not doing so is the dishonesty and inderhandedness of Heath and Day. Likely an election year ploy. Shame on them for sacrificing public safety for campaign purposes. The city will probably is the money for more of the bikes that are strewn everywhere.
