A marijuana-based medication to reduce seizures in children with severe forms of epilepsy has been recommended for government approval by a panel of experts.
The liquid form of a main ingredient in cannabis has been found to reduce seizures by more than half in children who were already taking three or more medications to control their epilepsy.
On Thursday a panel of experts analyzed the safety and effectiveness of the medicine called Epidiolex and unanimously voted in favor of Food and Drug Administration approval.
The liquid could become the first cannabis-derived drug to get the federal government's seal of approval when the FDA makes its final decision in June.
