Public’s Help Sought In 2017 Wicomico Co. Murder Investigation

(SALISBURY, MD) – Maryland State Police homicide investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with information about a vehicle seen fleeing the scene of a Wicomico County homicide in the summer of 2017.

The investigation involves the August 14, 2017 murder of Arthur W. Smith Jr., 31, who was also known as “AW.” State Police homicide investigators believe that sometime between 9:30 pm and 10:00 pm that night, Smith left his residence to walk his dog in the 800-block of Gettysburg Avenue, in Salisbury. When police responded to a 911 call for a shooting, they found Smith lying in the front yard of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He died while being transported to the hospital.

The investigation into this murder has developed information about a vehicle homicide investigators are hoping to obtain more details about. The vehicle is described as a small, black, four-door vehicle. The vehicle was seen fleeing the area of the 800-block of Gettysburg Avenue shortly after the murder.

Anyone who may have information about this vehicle, or about the person or persons responsible for the murder of Arthur Smith Jr., is urged to contact Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore immediately at 410-548-1776. Crime Solvers is offering up to a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

  6. One of the tools of police investigation is to question witnesses. Social media is an effective way to find those witnesses.
