Maryland State Police Arrest Suspect In Wicomico County Homicide

(SALISBURY, MD) – Maryland State Police arrested a Salisbury, Md. man in connection with a homicide this past weekend in Wicomico County.

The suspect, identified as Zamere Purnell, 18, is charged with first- and second-degree murder, home invasion and robbery. Purnell is also charged with multiple counts of burglary and attempted burglary in connection to other cases not related to the homicide. He was arrested Monday and taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.

The victim is identified as Pierre Louis, 67, of Salisbury. EMS personnel pronounced Louis deceased at the scene. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy. The Medical Examiner determined the manner of death to be homicide, and the cause of death to be injuries sustained from stab wounds.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on March 17, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was contacted by the Salisbury City Police Department to investigate the apparent murder of Louis. Louis was found unresponsive inside a residence in the 500 block of Priscilla Street in Salisbury.

The preliminary investigation reveals a friend of Louis’ went to the home on Priscilla Street to check on Louis after he did not show up for church earlier on Saturday. The friend called 911 after finding Louis unresponsive inside the home.

Investigators from the Homicide Unit arrived to take the lead in the investigation. Through their investigation, detectives identified Purnell as a suspect. It is believed that robbery was the motive in this case.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was assisted by the Salisbury Police Department, the Maryland State Apprehension Team, the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, the Wicomico County Drug Task Force and the MSP Gang Unit. The investigation is ongoing.

  8. Awwww, c’mon. I heard that he was just getting his life together. He was getting ready to enroll at SSU and obtain a degree in Business Management. He had just found God and accepted him as his Savior. Just started going to church again. I can’t believe this. Say it ain’t so!!!

  9. Will someone in charge of the city please answer why The Million Dollar Nationally accredited Salsbury Police Department can not investigate their own serious crimes? They have a criminal investigation section?
