A Viewer Writes: Pittsville Elementary and Middle School

Joe,

I wanted to make everyone aware that a threat was made yesterday by an 8th grade student. He claims he is bringing a gun to school today and is going to open fire. He allegedly told his girlfriend to wear red so that she would stand out from the rest and he wouldn’t target her.

Thanks for helping to get this information out to the public.

  1. Did you alert the school rather than here. Here is great for public but please tell the school!

  2. At least they sent something out. It was reported yesterday morning that a kid was going to bring knives to school on his Instagram account but us parents never got a phone call or a letter sent home

  4. An 8th grader threatening to shoot up his school. Sure, keep sensationalizing this you anti-gun people instead of going to the root of the problem. I had a discussion the other day with a recent college grad. He said I was an "old white guy", that "my time was over", it was "their world now and we are terrified of change". I told him if his world is about kids shooting up schools and not being held accountable for it, he is right, I am terrified of change and his world. In 8th grade I was more concerned about whether I was going to play football or baseball after school.

  6. Why didn’t this make yesterday’s news? What is wrong with our educators?

  7. Just to clarify, the school knew about this yesterday, but did not inform the parents. The only reason the call went out today from the school is because parents found out from another reputable source and started flocking to the school to sign their kids out. We are the only middle school in Wicomico County that does not have an officer assigned to our school. And while there was a Shereiff’s car parked there this morning, all of the front doors were unlocked, and there was not an officer present at those doors, or anyone at the doors for that matter.

  8. The community should be wondering why there is selective punishment in the schools. One 13-year-old student brought a gun to school (1-2 months back) to shoot his teacher. It ended up being a fake gun; however, it looked realistic. The student was taken out of school in the morning and return back to class in the afternoon. The school resource officer was not allowed to charge the student nor was the student expelled. The reasoning: the child has a “disability”. This is the biggest crock of reasoning. Any other child would have been expelled from Wicomico schools.

  9. Aren't there metal detectors at the schools? If not, there should be. Also, put the resource officers to work screening bags at the door. If these punks want to act stupid, make it inconvenient for them to get in the door.

    1. No metal detectors or resource officers at this school. Pittsville is the only middle school in the county that does not have an officer.

  12. People, this is getting out of hand. Children need to have the sh*t scared out of them before it gets to this point. With social media, they talk to each other and educate each other on how to beat the sh*tty system we have in place now. They are not afraid of the consequences of doing something wrong now because they know how to beat it. Hence we have this now. Society has created this mess by overthinking everything instead of using good old fashioned logic. Remember this saying, spare the rod and spoil the child? Or this one, looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. Logic right? We need more of it and less overthinking in our Government, our society, and our lives. Until then I WILL carry my concealed weapon at all times. Not to threaten or show power. But to protect myself, my family, and probably the sorry a*ses of the people that created this mess.

  14. Maybe the "Mayor Moore" should step up and say something. Oh right, she's not qualified to work at a bank, much less manage a city and it's citizens.

  15. The school administration can’t go over what the school safety officer says and safety officer cannot go over what the BOE says. When parents raise our voices they will have to change policies for bringing weapon to school. Communicate to parents of what happened in school, moreover parents should try and call their nerves down when incidents like this happen. Being jumpy, cursing each other are not going to work. We have to help boe to take proper measures to fix this problem if they are willing. If not we have to go rogue on boe. Our kids are the future. Let’s strive for their bright future.

  16. I was at the meeting tonight and to be honest felt like our heartfelt concerns about or children's safety fell on deaf ears. How can we get fog delays at 530 am but not be notified when not one but two gun threats have been made at Pittsville middle .i also understand there was a list of specific kids he was gunning for . Has this list been recovered . When I asked the principle at the meeting the fate of this kid I was told they followed the code of conduct to the letter. How about letting the parents know what's going on so we know our kids will be safe at school.

Police are already paid for with tax dollars. They will still get paid if they are in schools or sitting behind a bush. Hold parents accountable for the juvenile delinquents? You have no idea what kind of shooters or their behavior is before these shootings. Please be quiet.

If today's kids had the proper parents in the home and were being raised correctly we wouldn't need either. Cops are in schools because little Johnny has not received instruction in how to act in public and oftentimes the parents cannot even correct their own kids for fear of being locked up for "abuse". Look at where the real problems lie and not just the symptoms.

  21. So, who here is ready to pay more taxes for metal detectors and workers to man them? Where should the cops come from? Do you want police to come when you call 911? They can’t if they are working in schools until 3. This county is extremely under manned in every dept, except the BOE.
