Trump Budget Nixes Federal Funding for NPR, PBS

President Donald Trump’s 2019 budget includes a proposal that would eliminate federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), according to a report.

The Hill reported that Trump’s budget would cut funding for CPB — which funds public television and radio stations such as PBS and NPR — over two years.

“To conduct an orderly transition away from Federal funding, the Budget requests $15.5 million in 2019 and $15 million in 2020, which would include funding for personnel costs of $16.2 million, rental costs of $8.9 million; and other costs totaling $5.4 million,” according to the proposal.

“CPB grants represent a small share of the total funding for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR), which primarily rely on private donations to fund their operations,” the proposal continued.

  2. If so much of the news is fake, why in the world would we pay somebody to give us MORE fake news? Shut these people down.

Obama is GONE. We don't need his propaganda machine any longer.

  7. Great news! If the feds give money to the CPB then it should be given to the EIB network, as well.

What? You don't know what EIB is?

  8. Good for Trump! I have always said if you love the arts and entertainment world, then support it. If not, then don't. That includes tax dollars that could be spent toward more important causes.

  9. Yeah, I don't want children watching sesame street or other children's programing if their parents don't have cable.

  10. It is time. MPT's programming has become a wasteland. And a waste of money. They beg for money, then show 10 year old programs.

  13. I actually like some of the programming on PBS but they need to get out of the news business. If they did I would support them.

  14. I very much enjoy the non-political content on NPR but it is getting fewer and farther between. Now it's like they will find a way to bash or blame Trump no matter what the subject is. The other day I heard this and decided I am done:
"Up next why is media coverage of the anti-Trump movement decreasing and is it time to take things further. After that we will discuss the craziest right wing conspiracies."
This is why the snowflakes are so crazy. They listen to this garbage all day and they think it's real. Sorry snowflakes, the news is the most fictional show on television.

  17. 8:48 I don't think you DO want children watching Sesame Street anymore. It isn't the same as it was in the 70's and 80's. But if you really do want kids to keep watching Sesame Street then put your money where your mouth is.

  19. As I keep saying and have told WSCL- if they would JUST play classical music and drop the NPR I would gladly give them my money, Heck, I dont even mind a bit of my taxpayer dollars supporting classical music. But I will NOT support the liberal bias and smug attitudes of NPR.

  20. Why would companies (NPR,PBS) receive Federal dollars when they provide stock dividends? They are for profit organizations.
