The Genius Of Trump's Food Stamp Proposal: You're Not Supposed To Like Being On Welfare

Incentives.

If I was on food stamps, I wouldn't like this either... I think that's the point.

If you can't afford to buy your own food and you need the government to provide it for you, then you get it on the government's terms.

That's usually what happens when someone else is supplying your needs.

Don't like it? Take every available action to get off food stamps and achieve independence, at which point you can buy whatever you want at the grocery store with your own money that you earned.

Until then, enjoy your Harvest Box:

Under the USDA America’s Harvest Box proposal, all Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participating households receiving $90 per month or more in benefits will receive a package of nutritious, 100-percent U.S. grown and produced food. Approximately 16.4 million households, or about 81 percent of SNAP households would be impacted by this proposal.

The amount of food received per household would be scaled to the overall size of the household’s SNAP allotment, ultimately representing about half of their benefits. SNAP participants would receive domestically-sourced and produced food in lieu of a portion of their SNAP benefits.

USDA would utilize a model similar to that currently used to distribute USDA Foods to other nutrition assistance programs to provide staple, shelf-stable foods (such as shelf-stable milk, juice, grains, ready-eatcereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans, canned meat, poultry or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables) to SNAP households at approximately half the retail cost.

This proposal creates a new approach to nutrition assistance that combines retail-based SNAP benefits with delivery of USDA America’s Harvest Boxes supporting the President’s leadership on Buy American. This proposal is cost-effective, enhances the integrity of SNAP, and provides for states’ flexibility in administration of the program.

The remainder of the household’s benefits will still be provided via the current Electronic Benefit Transfer card.

  3. People on the system call all the shots - period! That is why people like me are getting tired this garbage. Some examples:
    1) If benefits are going to change they have to benotified multiple times and then with certified mail. When is the last time you were notified in triplicate of any changes in our life.
    2) Whatever those who are paying the bill can have they entitled to have as well.
    3) Illegals are getting any type of benefit available and at times more than those who have already paid the piper.
    4) We are essentially paying for the Smartphones as well.

  4. Liberals are now pulling together the objections. You can be sure that most of them will deal with feelings and little else. I'm waiting for them to trot "dignity" out for a spin or two.

  5. I'm not a Trump guy, but this is a great idea... this is definitely a win for his administration.

A simple solution to stop lots of fraud and waste, and still feeding people who really need it, all American sourced food..

Brilliant. I dunno if it will get me on the Trump train.. but it's a good start.

  8. In earlier days, food stamp purchases had to be approved at each cash register...the clerk would call out "manager for food stamp approval on register 4" and everyone would know that the people at register four were on assistance. People would be ashamed for others to know they were getting help - and would do what they could to get a better job.

Nowadays, it's something they're proud of...."I'm getting free money from the government!".

    3. Exactly 7:56. Those items SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to be purchased either using SNAP, ALONG with the items that I mentioned. NONE of those "foods" are in the least bit fresh or healthy. There should be a list of appropriate foods that can be purchased like the WIC program has. Dont you ever wonder why about 75% of people around you are FAT? Also, recipients SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to use SNAP at Skipjacks or other places like that. These businesses know where they get their $$$$. From the people who like to spend lavishly on the taxpayers dime. Those places accept SNAP cards for all kinds of seafood and charge a few bucks to steam it. So, if you don't like it, then boycott those places. But, I bet that you won't. Now, I don't understand your next sentence. Can anybody help me Out? This is 1:58 by the way.

  10. President Trump is again showing his greatness. This would be the best food stamp revamp in history. It makes absolute perfect sense to do this. The revamped food stamp program would absolutely save us tax payers money. The people who are on food stamps would be getting much healthier food staples instead of sodas, chips, candy etc, etc.

Because it makes such perfect sense and would save us tax payers so much money, NO CONGRESS MEMBERS WILL SUPPORT THIS PROPOSAL !!!

  12. SNAP only thing keeping local food store in business. They and many others will fight this change. It is to big of a corrupt enterprise to be cleaned up now. Stores even help them beat the restrictions on the cards.

  15. The food options will be determined to be "racist" and not ethnically sensitive. The leftist will claim their civil rights are being violated. Immigrant islamist will claim their religious freedoms are being violated with the free food. God I miss the 1970's more and more every day. Just send them some cheese and a job application.
