Suspected gunman Nikolas Cruz was living with Florida high school student in months leading up to massacre, attorney says

Nikolas Cruz, the suspected gunman in Wednesday’s shooting at a Florida high school that left at least 17 people dead, was living in a mobile home with a student for the last three months, his attorney said.

A portrait of the suspected gunman began to emerge of the former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student in the hours following the deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook.

Cruz was arrested without incident just over a mile from where he was suspected of killing more than a dozen people, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said Cruz used an AR-15 and had multiple magazines on him during the shooting. Cruz’s attorney Jim Lewis told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that the firearm was legally bought and already own the gun when he moved in with a friend, a junior at the Parkland high school, three months ago.

“It was his gun,” Lewis told the newspaper. “The family made him keep it in a locked gun cabinet in the house but he had a key.”

  1. No one except police and military should be allowed to own ar-15s.

    2. If a person wants an AR-15 for bad deeds then the person will steal it from the police or military - who in your opinion are the only ones who should own one. Also, one easily can get instructions on converting a gun to an AR-15.

  2. Sad thing is, there was a law repealed by Trump that enforced extra background checks on anyone that had been treated for a mental illness. Which this sicko was. Social media accounts full of hacked up animals, accusations of domestic violence and a comment on a youtube video about being "a professional school shooter" may have left a trail.

    1. This person - according to FOX news - passed the background check, and purchased the gun with his own money. His father has been deceased since 2004 and his mother died in November from complications of the Flu. He has been working at a Dollar Store where the manager and other employees spoke of him as an outstanding employee who came in early and did more than was required. He and his brother had been living with a family friend since his mother's death.

Yes he had been treated for mental illness. Makes me wonder if those treated for mental illness are receiving treatment that is beneficial. I am one who believes it is not a gun that kills but the person pulling the trigger. If they did not have a gun, they would find a different means of killing.

The government cannot be everyone's protector nor should they be. People complain the government has taken away many of our rights and is too involved in our lives. Now the people want all guns gone. Perhaps we should be checking out why countries such Israel, do not have these massacres in their schools.

    2. Yes true. A law was overturned, but would done little as juvenile records are protected. So if a child stops treatment by 18 those records are ignored. Dumb and senseless.

  4. 11:27, that was an Executive order, not a law, and it only applied to people receiving social security, ssi, disability that could not manage their own finances. it would have done nothing.

this country has a problem, its over medication.

So what kind of background checks would have prevented this whacko from killing people?

You are a dumb ass Liberal moron that blames President Trump for everything. I bet you can't name any legislation that Trump repealed! You know why?? Because only the legislative branch can repeal laws you ignorant libtard.

  8. 1:34. Not sure where you get that info. Most of these “whackos” seem to be white with supremicist tendencies. This kid sure had a pretty racist footprint on social media.

  9. 12:39 the democrats have been trying to get rid of guns from back in the 50's and 60's it's just that there are more of those idiots now because of MSM hatred of the US constitution.

  10. 11:27 stop spreading FAKE NEWS! The President did NOT repeal a law that enforced extra background checks on anyone that had been treated for a mental illness! The only thing SAD are you people who spread these lies. Not only sad but it's disgusting the way you people have no problem spreading what is nothing but lies. Absolutely disgusting!
Now let me educate you! What happened was it was PROPOSED that those receiving disability payments from SS and receive help with their benefits because they can't read for example wouldn't be disqualified from owning a gun. Congress and the President eliminated this rule in part because it would have prevented many otherwise law biding inner city residents from obtaining gun just because they were illiterate.

  11. 11:27 Sad thing is you are pathetically low information. It's you people that are part of the problem with the kids today. You hear the lies told constantly by the democrats and the MSM and you run with it. That makes you responsible for spreading hate and the kids get this in their heads. If the kid is teetering on the verge of rage the lies you people spread serves to add more fuel to the fire. Shame On You.

  13. Be afraid, be very afraid. You have many Nicholas's brewing around here who are exhibiting and doing the same things. The mental health system is a mess. Its dangerous and backwards. If u research these shooting i gurantee most, if not all had a histoy trail probably a disturbing one starting from childhood of mental health treatment.

  14. If I were in that school when the shooting started, my first thought would have been: I wish I had a gun.

    Just saying . . .

  15. There is no safety in a free society. Take your kids out of the public school system if you are concerned. Tired of the gun rights attacks after every tragedy. The guns are important to ensure our sovereignty and freedoms and no amount of life supersedes it. Without them, we need not worry about school shootings as a tyrannical government will make the deaths here peanuts.

  16. 6:52 You hit the mark. There are many of these sad sick souls out there and if you are a parent you have so many marks against you. People shun you if you toss the kid out of your house when it becomes clear they are violent and even the place that treats him does not report that he was physically violent toward you. Then you are left to either report your own child you love in the hope that they will do something to protect you or keep as far away as possible. I prayed that he would not kill anyone. He did kill himself but at least he didn't kill others out with him. So many, many tears. I cry for him and I cry for others who are living this nightmare.
