Maryland explores ‘unspecified’ gender option for drivers license applications

Transgender activists are vying to add Maryland to the list of states that allow for “unspecified” gender options on drivers licenses.

The Old Line State may join California, Washington state, and the nation’s capital regarding transgender licenses if lawmakers can garner enough support. The House of Delegates debated a bill working its way through the legislative process on Thursday.

“I’m not concerned about how [transgender individuals] feel about themselves,” Del. Bill Folden, R-Frederick, said, a local radio station reported. “The issue is you are born one way or the other.”

Transgender activist Dana Beyer of Chevy Chase countered: “You really do need to respect peoples’ sense of who they are. Sexual development is very complicated. Gender is your sense of yourself as a man or a woman or as neither.”

  1. Christians awake! Do not let the letter x appear on this latest demand. X denotes Christ. Better to use the letter Y.

  2. Why even have identification cards if they don't IDENTIFY a certain physical aspect of a person? If this can be done, then eye and hair color can be whatever a person "FEELS" as well. Our addresses can be "Heaven" or wherever we "FEEL" we are living.

It's called "identification" for a reason!

  3. Male or female you only have two options. Science vs "feelings"

  4. F****** morons!! Just what Maryland needs to allocate millions towards. A bunch of mentally deranged that don't know if their boys or girls. I'd like to see the study showing some long term effects of such sexual gender changes

  5. This means the picture would not always depict the person with a MD drivers license or ID. Picture would accurately depict the appearance of the person that particular day. What would that do for the Police properly identifying the correct person? What would that do for accurate identifying individuals in crime situations? MD will be jeopardizing their citizens every day safety. Ridiculous Politians. That is not why they were elected to do.

  8. Maryland is so screwed up already, (and Liberal Hogan ain't helping), what does it matter if we have one more stupid thing added to list of stupid sh** going on here?

  9. This is one of the stupidest ideas I have heard yet.....So you dress as a man/woman the day you get your license renewed. If you have to show identification for any reason and you are dressed the opposite of what your license picture is. And you get arrested, not let into some kind of a venue, not served at a bar, then you will be crying discrimination.....Makes a whole lot of sense to me??????

  10. If your license has your photo on it why does gender even need to be listed? Because it always has? Tell me why it is important to have gender designated on your license? Before you all get offended- I’m not a gender activist, just asking the question...

  11. Change the license so it indicates, born x,claims to be ?.

  13. Hey Dana Beyer of Chevy Chase, sexual development may be very complicated for abnormal people; however, it is not for normal people. You were born as a male or a female and that is the way you were intended to live your life. Please seek psychological advice ASAP.

  14. It is science you are either one or the other, ones feelings does not determine ones sex. What will it be next, species? Are we going to give into the group known as furbies, people who believe they should have been a dog, cat, lion or a horse? Just because they "feel" like That? Is there no morality or sanity left in the world today?

  15. I am disheartened to see this great country going nuckin' futs' from what it has been all our born days.

Imagine the cost to even discuss these things that do not amount to a hill of beans. Government waste from local to federal.

  16. Unidentified Identification? Wouldn't that make all state ID invalid? This will lead to abuse of the system at the least.

  20. What if they are injured or dead and have to be identified by police? They may be dressed up as female, but their body parts prove they are male. Your official ID should match your physical sex for identification purposes. If you have gender reassignment surgery, then you can change your I.D.

  21. I can see it now...police need your help in identifying this unspecified suspect....

  22. Because they know this will never work and the call for the next step of identifying soley as a number will be the only “logical” step that will work.

  24. @12:22

If you were to get in a situation where you were about to be arrested and needed to be frisked, gender is important on your license so either a male or female police officer will frisk you.

    1. If you aren’t driving, you aren’t required to have a license, how do LEOs know who frisks you if they have no document to refer to.

  27. why stop with just gender identity, why not let people put whatever age they identify as on their license? if a 60 year old feels younger than 60 let them put a younger age on their license. how about location identity, if someone lives in ocean city but they actually feel like they are living in baltimore let them put a baltimore address on their license. This "identity" thing can get really insane if we let it.

  28. Next we will have neutral direction lanes. Just in case some want to drive on the wrong side of the road.

  29. Here's a thought...Have anyone that is 'affected' by this syndrome (or whatever it is)...go to MVA each day and get a license that is appropriate to how they identify on that particular day. Charge them the going rate and make them wait with their # like everyone else...(no preferential status on the wait). Bet this crap would stop in no time!

What happens when a 16 year old feels like they are 21? I think I will identify as a 70 year old and start collecting social security! Boy this is going to be fun!

    1. I'm going to get my senior citizens discount today. If every single person identifies as something else (purposely)and doesn't back down when they don't get what they want and goes as far as even sueing saying that they got discriminated against, maybe then it will stop.

  33. 12:22 gender needs to be listed so the police can know how to handle a suspect, maybe they need a female officer to do a search on a woman.
