In his big budget proposal on Monday, President Trump offered a novel idea: Instead of giving people in need government stamps they can redeem for food, why not just give them actual food?
As you might guess, liberals were enraged by the notion. How dare Trump try to take away food stamps from hungry people and give them — of all things — food!
Here's how the liberal HuffPost saw it: "Facing a trillion-dollar deficit because of his just-passed tax cuts, President Donald Trump has an idea for how to get some of that money back: making poor people eat beans and rice."

Oh I hope this happens! It’s about time this program off freeloading and fraud gets a reset. What’s wrong with getting food instead of cash? That’s right the leaches can’t go down to skipjacks and buy bushels of crabs and lobster tails or acme and get carts full of meat on my dime anymore. Go Trump!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a coal mining town in PA. Mines where not doing well (as a child) I remember getting free food from the Government. It consisted of cheese; flour; butter; sugar - Staples. We were grateful. The system worked. No one went hungry. Go Trump
ReplyDeleteI say the same 3:02 AM, about time. Yay President Trump, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a blessing for the kids. They are the ones that go hungry because mommy waste the stamps or sells them.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea.
ReplyDeletePast due. Working people are tired of all this s---
ReplyDeleteYou can never completly stop the fraud.I went grocery shopping one time with a friend who had a food stamp card. We bought only the food I wanted and when we got out of the store I gave him one half of the price for the groceries so he could buy liquor. He wasn't married and had no children. He's dead now so it doesn't matter who it was but is just an example of what goes on all the time.I agree give only food to the truly needy and sober.
ReplyDeletelots of people on stamps like to feed their children pork rinds and cheese curls. it keeps them full.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea....ever look at the grocery carts of those using food stamps? They eat better than the average taxpayer.
ReplyDeleteThe food stamp program should be more like WIC. A panel of nutritionists have determined what foods are needed and you can only shop from that list. Why not do the same for food stamps?
ReplyDeleteEach state or geographical region could have a nutrition requirement checklist of foods you are allowed to purchase to maximize nutrition and decrease costs.
People on food stamps should not be able to buy food that paying customers can't afford.
I bet a majority of American voters would agree.
3:58, I remember this as a child here in Somerset County and I am in my 70's. There were some hard times and it was appreciated. It was also for a very short period until Dad had work. He and the family all turned out comfortable with careers. It wasn't looked down on because it was known to be a very short boost, not a lifestyle like it has become. I would go with my father and there were many classmates in line with their parent too. People go on about blacks taking advantage, to clarify I was and still am white and remain a male (didn't choose to change). Lol
ReplyDelete7:32. Sounds like you are part of the problem. You only agree with this now because your free pass died and you can't find another one
ReplyDeleteBeans and rice is better than alcohol and cigarettes.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. Those who really need help with food still get it, and it drastically removes fraud, and incentives those in need to get better their situation.
ReplyDeleteThis move is a win.
Making shure they buy Proper Food , Not Lobster & Booze !!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with 8:03. I have seen people purchase a bushel of crabs on food stamps and give the seller $1.00 to steam them. They did not NEED food stamps. WE don't need to give them the money to purchase them! I like the program President Trump is planning. We had that when we grew up we did not go hungry. My daddy had a JOB.
ReplyDelete8:05--
ReplyDeleteFrom someone who is in need, but "makes too much money" to get help, I wholeheartedly agree that they are a part of the problem. Stores that allow ineligible purchases so they can make money off of it (FRAUD) are another huge part of it. Used to have people break a dollar food stamp for a 5-cent piece of candy to save up cash for their habits, & you couldn't do anything, because the candy was an allowable item. The last that I knew, hot foods were not allowable.
I agree The Food stamp program needs to b updated. But sadly kids will suffer and all this about your tax dollars yada yada if Child support would do their jobs single parents may be able to survive without the system..
ReplyDeleteNo junk food! No trading the card for cash.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we have to subsidize these people?? With all the unemployment and
ReplyDeleteall the infrastructure work that has to de don, they could most certainly
be put to work reconstruction our bridges and highways. The administration
could use the money we are sending overseas to supplement the costs.
This has to be a improvement, though once a crook always a crook. Some will sell their kids cheese to purchase what they crave. Results no kid gets grilled cheese.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who receives food stamps should be drug tested at random. A lot of people who work are but people who get food stamps are too good to be tested
ReplyDeleteI've always thought the Food Stamp Program was wrong. I've know a number of people on it that bragged stating they could eat better than our family, they could have steak and seafood every night what ever they wanted, no hamburgers and stuff for them. By supplying the food the right kind of food that they can use to stretch meals teaches them responsibility not just a hand out forever. They should not be buying sodas and booze but powdered drinks like tea and lemonade that can be mixed as needed. There should be approved lists of items covered, it's called budgeting, something that the rest of us learn.
ReplyDeleteA better way would be EBT, SNAP only stores that carry only allowed items. Limiting these stores as the only ones to accept the cards would cut out the vast majority of fraud and abuse.
ReplyDeleteBeans and rice is better than alcohol and cigarettes.

Here's the problem. Unscrupulous store owners. People living in inner cites don't have cars to go to a grocery store or a big box store. They shop at those little most often now foreign owned stores that sell a few groceries and alcohol. The stores make it look like they are buying all food when that's the not case. Also what they do is charge like double or more for alcohol to someone using a welfare card then to someone who is paying cash. All the stores would do then is to keep in stock a selection of the "allowed" foods to make it look like that's what is being purchased instead of alcohol.
No prepackaged microwave food. They aren't working, so make food from scratch. Flour, Powdered Milk, Cornmeal,Oatmeal, sugar. No junk foods, no soda, no deli items, no treats.
ReplyDeleteI see these leaches in the stores buying better stuff than us working folks.
If they want something more than beans and rice they can get a job and buy it themselves.
ReplyDeleteYou people kill me with your rhetoric. So because a small percentage of recipients commit fraud, everyone else in the program has to suffer. You Trumpers would allow your demigod to sentence poor kids to workhouses like the Dickinson era. After all ,poor people aren't people ,right?
ReplyDeleteI'm a Democrat and I haven't liked the way the programs have been going for a long time. Too much abuse and too much waste. Moving good food before it's needlessly wasted is good policy.
ReplyDeleteTrump has another great idea. No wonder he got elected to be our President.
