Hawkins: Government Failed to Protect Us, Yet They Don't Want Us to Protect Ourselves

The government failed to protect students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, yet government officials respond to the heinous attack by digging in their heels against any suggestion that teachers be armed to defend themselves.

Consider the information available to us at this point:

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBCSO) received 911 calls about Nikolas Cruz in November 2017. The calls referenced violence and erratic behavior. CNNreports that in one of the calls with the host family, with whom Cruz was living after the death of his mother, told PBCSO they feared Cruz was going to turn a gun on the family. The family member told deputies that Cruz was “buying “tons of ammo” and had allegedly put “put [a] gun to others heads in the past.” No charges were filed, no arrest made.
1. On January 5, 2018, the FBI received a tip describing “Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.” The FBI did not act on the tip.
2. On February 14 Cruz attacked students and unarmed teachers in Stoneman Douglas High. A report from CNN claims four Broward County sheriff’s deputies were at the school as the attack was taking place but not one of them entered the school. On February 22 Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told ABC 13 that video showed deputy Scott Peterson by building 12 on campus, yet Peterson never went inside to confront Cruz. The CNN report quotes Coral Springs sources that claim there were actually four Broward County deputies on scene who did not enter the building.

When Cruz attacked the school he faced no armed resistance because the teachers were not allowed to carry. President Trump noted that the lack of armed teachers is a weakness too great to ignore and, on February 21, called for “20 percent” of our nation’s public school teachers to be armed for school safety. The next day he reiterated his call, noting that first responders are “5 to 8 minutes” away when a school shooting occurs, but teachers are on scene to shoot sickos “immediately.”

And how did government officials respond to the call for teachers to be armed to defend themselves? The Hill reported that Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) called Trump’s push for armed teachers “abhorrent.” He intimated that arming teachers for self-defense was “an anathema.”

  1. from an uncle in the fbi and from many cops I know. None wants to walk into an active shooter situation. Best to let things play out then go in take a report and hopefully get the suspect in the middle of the night when there's less chance of them (the authorities) being hurt. No matter what they tell you they all want to go home to their families at the end of the day. So don't ever expect more out of them. You are left to either being a victim or you can choose not to let yourself and your family be the victim. judged by 12 or carried by six, your choice! that's the world we have always lived in. what chance does an elderly person or young female have against some of the animals in our society today? smith and wesson made all men and women equal!
those kops that waited outside the school show the difference between a soldier and a kop! even the unarmed coach took action, a hero, those kops cowards! wonder what kind of pension the ahole is gonna get now that he's retired?
    Semper fi.

  2. The anti gun mentality is disturbing. They claim to love their children but the reality is they really don't because they are willing to let their child die. They think love is doing things for their children. Real love is doing whatever it takes within your power to protect your children. That is real true love and that, whether anyone cares to admit or not, means having a gun in the home to protect what you love and taking all the precautions necessary so that gun does't get in the wrong hands. Until the anti gun crowd changes their uncivilized and primal ways and stops seeing children and others as not worth protecting and disposable there can not ever be any meaningful discussions on the topic.

  3. Insane. The deputy thought he did a good job.

    From the New York Post:

"The sheriff’s deputy who failed to engage the shooter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School “believed he did a good job” because he called in the location of the massacre and gave a description of the shooter, a top union official said Thursday.

School resource officer Scot Peterson, who resigned in disgrace from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, was “distraught” about the shooting that killed 17 people — but believed he did his duty, according to the president of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputies Association.

“He believed he did a good job calling in the location, setting up the perimeter and calling in the description (of Cruz),” said the union official, Jim Bell."

Sounds like the everybody gets a trophy crap, the democrat mindset.

  4. The slaughter in Florida just proves our government cannot and will not protect us, no matter how many clues and tips they get. They will only react, and will not be proactive in our defense. This is all the more reason that we MUST protect ourselves, even if our corrupt lawmakers try to make it illegal to do so. As for the teachers, I would rather be an alive hero (and go to jail for it, if necessary), than a dead pawn in the politicians war on guns. I will illegal conceal carry, just like the thugs, until Maryland gives me the right to legally do so. My gun will never be seen until my, or my family's, lives are in danger, or I can save someone else's life with it. I'll let the jury decide what to do with me.

There will be no public notice that I am armed, and it will be "surprise, surprise, surprise" to the armed thug, or threat to our lives, that I dispatch with my weapon. All thanks to our anti-gun politicians in Maryland.

  5. The failure of the deputies on the outside to act is proof teachers who are willing should be armed and trained to use the weapon in an active shooter situation. Someone faced with either dying or doing something is going to act. The deputies were not in any danger being on the outside so didn't act. Any teacher or school admin who disagrees with this needs to find another profession because it means the children mean nothing to them and are disposable. To any parent who disagrees with arming teachers. Shame on you. You are a piss poor example of human being and a parent. Animals are more civilized because they will do anything to protect their young.

What does the Marines tag line have to do with this event?
Were Marines involved? Are you trying to tell us something?
