Couple sells all possessions for sailboat, sinks 2 days into trip

A couple’s plan for a better life has been sunk.

Nikki Walsh, 24, and boyfriend Tanner Broadwell, 26, decided nearly a year ago that they were tired of working.

“How can we live our lives when we’re working most of the day and you have to pay so much just to live?” Walsh, who booked timeshare tours for a living, said to the New York Post.

“Most of the work you do goes to your home. There has to be another option,” she added.

So, the Colorado couple sold all their furniture and their SUV and purchased a 49-year-old boat in Alabama to live on and eventually sail the world in.

  1. Sorry, I'm a little cynical about this scenario. Seems too many curious circumstances appear to obvious to me, a 49 year old boat, no nautical experience, hit a shoal and then have time to save "dog food" before abandoning ship. Come on folks, you think everyone believes this tongue-in-cheek junk.

  2. Really knew what they were doing. Can't imagine fate of the poor puppy when they hit the open Atlantic

  3. Have they never heard of boat insurance? Lots of agents sell it and it's not expensive, especially for a sailboat. Probably less than $100 per year for theirs.

  4. Pot heads that are tired of working at 24 & 26. No boating experience, no insurance and no brains. Gofundme page in 3, 2, 1.

  5. This happens all the time. Landlubbers dreams turn bad because of lack of any experience offshore. No need for a Gofundme here; people do this every day. It's just a different way to get an education.

I think they call it the school of hard knocks.

  8. Not too impressed by the loss of the "life savings" of 24 year olds.

  9. They are living in a make believe world. Come on, parents....teach your kids responsibility and make them work for things they want.

  10. Hate millennials who live at home, ridicule millennials who undertake an adventure, you geezers will only be happy when millennials are as miserable as yourselves

  11. Snowflakes lack the necessary adult seasoning required to live in this world. When they constantly fall down, get back up and NOT learn from their mistakes - THATS frustrating with we Geezers.

We fear the natural course of evolution is not taking place with snowflakes and the thought they will be our future leaders - that's frightening!

Participation trophies, which I recall started in the latter 1980's should have never EVER happened!!!!

  12. They got lucky, this time. The ocean is going to kill them. It is no place to be with no boating experience. The next time we here from them will be when it is reported that their boat has disappeared, with no trace of the owners. All because they are "tired of working" at the grand old ages of 24 & 26. Going to Bermuda to live as beach bums. What a life plan. They are stupid, and Darwin was right.

  13. We had 4 men beg from us yesterday. It is really bad on Rt 13 Between the college and Wawa. I would not go to WaWa by myself as a single woman after what I saw yesterday. One woman after another came in and they were all hit up for money.

  14. It's hard to believe anyone could be this stupid. If they insist on chasing this dream with out gaining a whole lot of ocean sailing experience they will die. Not maybe they will die,THEY WILL DIE fact.I spent many years working on the ocean and I know what I am saying is true.
