Wicomico County Board of Education Schedule Update

After an initial opportunity for community input on two draft versions of the 2018-2019 school calendar, the Board of Education at its Dec. 12 meeting approved a proposed calendar on 1st reading. Additional comment on this draft is welcome prior to the 2nd reading and final vote at the Jan. 9 Board meeting.

The Board of Education and Wicomico County Public Schools welcome parent, student, staff and community input on the proposed 2018-2019 school year calendar. Please share input to comments@wcboe.org.

This proposed calendar is a slight variation on Draft B, which was one of two drafts posted for public input in November/December. The proposed calendar shifts the November professional day from Wednesday, Nov. 7 to Monday, Nov. 5, allowing for more continuity in a week when schools will already be closed Tuesday, Nov. 6 for the general Election. The calendar includes the Friday, March 15 professional day that was on the Draft B calendar. This proposed calendar meets the governor's requirement that the school year begin after Labor Day and end by June 15.

  1. Don't let them screw the families over with the midweek Professional Development days. You better send your letters in to the BOE.

Interesting how they forgot to mention the Thursday Professional Day on April 4th that they sneaked in on us. Then they think we will forget all about it by mentioning school starting after Labor Day like everyone has been wanting for years.
