Some Maryland patients will face a choice: medical marijuana or their gun

Now that medical marijuana is legally available in Maryland, some who want to use the drug to manage health problems face a dilemma: To get the pot, they surrender their right to own a gun.

The question arises because marijuana, even for medicinal purposes, is still illegal under federal law. Authorities have long made it clear to gun dealers that they shouldn’t sell to people who use marijuana medically, and federal law prohibits drug users from owning guns.

  1. Ha ha. All the rednecks with guns that smoke pot won't get medical weed, they will just keep buying Kush/Diesel from a drug dealer. Medical ID needed.

  2. Guns are for hardcore alcoholics, not pot smokers! Come on, we all know that!!!

  3. If this is the case then people on opioids need to have their guns taken away also. They are far more dangerous than someone using marijuana. This is a slippery slope!

  6. Completely agree. No pot smoker should have a gun or access to it. Having been there, I know it's a correct thing to keep weapons from people using pot.

I agree that opioid users should be banned from gun ownership too. I also think drivers licenses of both marijuana and opioid users should be revoked.

Don't need dopers and opioid addicts driving around in cars.

  11. Screw them. Wait for recreational pot to become legalized. That's right around the corner. Or continue to buy on the street. There's no way I would let them take away my guns over a medical marijuana card. If they want to take away someone's guns for the medicine they are prescribed, them make it apply to anti-depressants and anti-psychotic medical prescriptions. Those are the people that have a condition that should bar them from buying or owning guns.

What's your opinion on people that "use" anti-psychotic medications, and anti-depressants? They are far more dangerous than any pot user.
