Desperate Alaskans Turn To Government For Food, Healthcare As Recession Deepens

While America's nationwide economy is reportedly firing on all cylinders, the picture is very different from 10s of 1000s of Alaskans dealing with a state-wide recession forced to turn to the government for healthcare and food prompting questions from state lawmakers about the sustainability of those 'safety-net' programs.

    It is because oil. The oil runs oit no jobs no fires for warmth. Then they want food to live un the cold cold north. Juno is very cold.

    The economy is terrible, almost nonexistent because of excessive Fed maneuvers and managed operations.

    Again some nitwits simply do not understand that VA has the lower two counties on the peninsula, not MD. If you cannot do something that simple, don't make the map.

    3:52 Really? Alaska was warmer than MD in December/January. Alaskan residents receive a distribution from the state every year.

    The checks are distributed annually to Alaskans who apply for them after living in the state for at least one calendar year, or were born in Alaska by the Dec. 31 deadline of the previous year. This year, about 640,000 Alaskans will receive checks, most through direct deposit. Altogether, the checks total $672 million. The amount of the checks is based on a five-year average of the fund's investment earnings.
