LiAngelo Ball, UCLA teammates facing 10 years in prison

Potentially facing up to 10 years in a Chinese prison, UCLA basketball players LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill, and Cody Riley have been released on bail in Hangzhou after being arrested for allegedly shoplifting sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton location near the team's hotel.

For the time being, the accused players are required to remain at that Hyatt in Hanzghou indefinitely, according to ESPN reporter Arash Markazi.

In a video posted to Twitter by Markazi, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo and Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo, was dismissive of the incident.

'He'll be fine,' said the usually outspoken LaVar. 'Everyone's making it a big deal. It ain't that big a deal.'

The Bruins were preparing to open the season against Georgia Tech in Shanghai on Friday when the three players were reportedly interrogated and arrested. All three could face between three and 10 years in prison, Chinese lawyers told Yahoo Sports.

Sabotage?: Hillary's Fusion GPS Operative Met With Russian Lawyer Before And After Trump Jr. Meeting

Earlier this summer we were all led to believe that the now-infamous meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya was undeniable evidence that the Trump campaign had colluded with the Russian government to effectively stage a coup by preemptively blocking Hillary from her rightful throne. But, what if it was all just a setup?

According to a report from Fox News, just hours before Natalia Veselnitskaya sat down with Trump Jr., Paul Manfort and Jared Kushner at Trump Tower on June 9, 2016, she was with Fusion GPS co-founder and former Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson in a Federal Manhattan courtroom. Adding to the mystery, Fox reports that the pair were together shortly after the Trump Jr. meeting as well.

Of course, this is an intriguing new development because just a couple of months prior to these events, Fusion GPS was paid at least $1 million by Hillary's campaign and the DNC to 'prove' that Trump was working with the Russians. All of which begs the obvious question, was the whole Trump Jr. fiasco nothing more than a failed attempt at political sabotage by the Hillary campaign?

George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush bash Donald Trump

Maybe it was that whole “low energy” thing.

In surprisingly undiplomatic terms for elder statesmen, George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, bash President Trump in a soon-to-be released book. While both of the former presidents vowed when they left office not to speak ill of their successors — a pledge they’ve kept for the most part — there’s just something aboutDonald J. Trump that they can’t stand.

Bush the elder, 93, was blunt, even crass, calling the president of the United States — a fellow Republican — a “blowhard.”

“I don’t like him,” Bush the Old said in May 2016, according to the upcoming book “The Last Republicans,” written by Mark Updegrove. “I don’t know much about him, but I know he’s a blowhard. And I’m not too excited about him being a leader.” Rather than being motivated by public service, Mr. Bush said, Mr. Trump seemed to be driven by “a certain ego.”

Hillary Clinton 'in talks' to buy second dossier on Trump

Edward Klein is the former editor in chief of the New York Times Magazine and the author of numerous bestsellers including his fourth book on the Clintons, Guilty as Sin, in 2016. His latest book is All Out War: The Plot to Destroy Trump was released on October 30, 2017

Hillary Clinton is in secret negotiations with Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous Russian dossier, to purchase a second report that allegedly contains salacious new charges against President Trump, according to several sources with personal knowledge of the transaction.

The talks with Steele, a former British spy, are being carried out by Hillary's former campaign aides, who do not hide their bitterness over the shocking loss of the White House to Donald Trump, these sources say.

'Hillary's people have been secretly in touch with Steele and are close to making a deal with him on opposition research that he claims has newly surfaced from his Russian sources,' says a longtime Clinton adviser.

'Steele didn't release this information before now because it wasn't available to him when he put together his first dossier,' the adviser continued.

"Not Possible They Missed It": NY Post Slams Media For Burying DNC Efforts To Replace Clinton With Biden

Just over a year ago, we were all told that the following video of Hillary collapsing into a van, because she literally couldn't support her own weight, was just a big 'nothing burger' being sensationalized by right-wing kooks for political gain. Rather than being caused by some serious ailment, the mainstream media eagerly assured everyone that Hillary's "medical episode" was just a reaction to the blistering 70 degree 'heat' on the beautiful New York Fall day.

But, it apparently wasn't just "right-wing kooks" who were focused on Hillary's health...according to Donna Brazile's new tell-all book, the interim DNC chair said she seriously considered replacing the Clinton-Kane ticket with a Biden-Booker ticket in the days following Hillary's "medical episode." Per the New York Post:

Silly, silly Donna Brazile. She’s publishing a book detailing turmoil in the Democratic Party during the 2016 campaign, highlighted by her concern that Hillary Clinton was seriously ill and might need to be replaced by Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders.

In other words, the claim of allergies was a big fat lie. That prompted Brazile to contemplate starting the process of replacing Clinton, writing in her book that the campaign also was “anemic” and had “the odor of failure.” She says she considered numerous tickets to replace Clinton and Sen. Tim Kane, and decided that Biden and Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.) would be the best.

It’s not clear how long she deliberated or how many people she talked to, but Brazile writes that Biden called her on Sept. 12th. In the end, she says she made no move because she couldn’t disappoint Clinton’s supporters.

Of course, the real story here isn't whether or not Hillary was really sick, anyone with a functional brain stem understood that the collapse above was not caused by New York's 70-degree Fall 'heat wave', but rather the unprecedented lengths that the mainstream media had to go to bury the single biggest scoop of the 2016 presidential election, namely that Brazile was, in fact, actively working to replace Clinton-Kane as the Democratic ticket.

Senate Democrats introduce major gun ban bill

Senate Democrats Wednesday introduced a major gun control bill that would ban so-called assault-style weapons and ammunition.

The bill — sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and other Senate Democrats — would make it illegal to sell more than 200 types of semi-automatic weapons as well as magazines holding more than ten rounds of ammunition. The proposal would also ban devices that ramp up firing speed, such as the bump stock used in the Las Vegas shooting last month.

The bill is similar to a 2013 measure Feinstein introduced following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School and comes after a string new deadly shootings in October and November.

It would expand background checks to all gun sales and require “a safe storage requirement for grandfathered firearms.”

“We’re introducing an updated Assault Weapons Ban for one reason - so that after every mass shooting with a military-style assault weapon, the American people will know that a tool to reduce these massacres is sitting in the Senate, ready for debate and a vote,” Feinstein said in a statement.

The new version of the bill appears to increase the number of banned firearms from 157 to 205.

Newt Gingrich: Hillary Clinton's been getting away with unethical, illegal behavior for 40 years

The never-ending saga of Clinton corruption continues to unfold, with the latest chapter being written by former Democratic National Committee Chair Donna Brazile.

In an excerpt from her new book, Brazile finally begins to reveal to the American people what actually happened behind closed doors during the 2016 Clinton presidential campaign and uncovers new details about even more collusive activity.

Brazile describes how the Clintons covertly took over operations at the Democratic National Committee four months after Hillary announced her presidential candidacy, nearly a year before she became the party’s 2016 nominee.

According to Brazile, Hillary exploited the cash-strapped party. She agreed to pay off financial debts left by Obama’s 2012 campaign, but the cash came with a catch.

Brazile wrote that a fundraising agreement signed in August 2015 dictated that “in exchange for raising money and investing in the DNC, Hillary would control the party’s finances, strategy, and all the money raised. Her campaign had the right of refusal of who would be the party communications director, and it would make final decisions on all the other staff. The DNC also was required to consult with the campaign about all other staffing, budgeting, data, analytics, and mailings.”

Task Force To Analyze Ocean City Motorized Events; No Major Changes Likely For Spring Cruisin Event

OCEAN CITY — After considerable debate on Monday, there will be a classic vehicle event in Ocean City as planned in the spring, but a task force will decide the future of the town’s often troublesome motorized special events going forward.

It was standing room only on Monday at City Hall as the Mayor and Council heard a presentation on a plan of action to eliminate some vehicle-related special events or at least curtail some of the illicit activity associated with them.

During a closed Police Commission meeting on Oct. 13, the panel, which includes Mayor Rick Meehan and Councilmembers Dennis Dare, Wayne Hartman and Mary Knight, came up with a list of recommendations to forward to the full Mayor and Council. Highlighted on the long list of recommendations is sending a letter to the H2Oi promoter requesting the event be moved entirely out of Worcester or Wicomico counties.

Questions Surround County’s Recent Wrongful Search And Seizure Settlement

SNOW HILL – A threatening post on social media. A Worcester County Sheriff’s Office investigation. A settlement. A trial board hearing.

More than a year after an Instagram post alluded to a potential school shooting at Stephen Decatur High School, questions remain about the ensuing actions of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. While details are scarce, officials have confirmed that Worcester County’s insurer settled a claim against the department based upon an alleged wrongful search and seizure.

Last September, an Instagram post by “timmy.the.shooter” alluded to a potential shooting at Stephen Decatur High School.

“There was a threat made in social media that we are investigating,” Lt. Ed Schreier of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office told The Dispatch Sept. 29, 2016. “We put extra patrols out in an abundance of caution. The threat was not acted upon. Investigation is ongoing.”

Port Deposit Receives $6.6 Million in Federal Funding for New Water Treatment Plant

WASHINGTON, DC: On November 8, the United States Department of Agriculture announced its approval of $4.2 million in loans and $2.4 million in grants for the replacement and relocation of Port Deposit’s existing wastewater treatment plant. Additional funding will be provided by the Maryland Department of the Environment. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement in support of the project:

“I applaud USDA’s attention to this important project. Too often, the needs of small towns and rural communities are neglected by the federal bureaucracy. Small communities like Port Deposit make up the backbone of our nation, and many of these communities need outside support to maintain and advance their infrastructure. Rural development is critical to keeping our country healthy, happy, and economically competitive.”

Mass. state trooper claims he was forced to change DUI arrest record for judge's daughter

A Massachusetts state trooper is claiming that he was forced to alter an arrest record for a local judge’s daughter after she was stopped for driving under the influence.

Fusion GPS Partner Strikes Deal To Testify Before House Intel Committee

Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson struck a deal on Wednesday to testify voluntarily before the House Intelligence Committee next week to discuss his opposition research firm’s involvement in the Steele dossier.

Simpson and his lawyer met with members of the committee for several hours to hammer out a deal for his closed-door testimony.

The Daily Caller was informed that Simpson had indicated prior to Wednesday’s meeting that he would plead the Fifth during his deposition, just as his two co-founders, Peter Fritsch and Thomas Catan, did during interviews last month. But as part of the deal struck Wednesday, Simpson will not plead the Fifth.

Simpson’s move comes amid a tense legal battle over Fusion’s bank records. On Friday, Fusion filed papers in federal court in Washington, D.C. asking a judge to issue a temporary restraining order preventing its bank from releasing records related to financial transactions it has had with “any law firm, ‘media company’ or journalist with which it has worked.”

Dementia now Britain’s biggest killer, overtaking heart disease for first time

Dementia is now Britain’s biggest killer, overtaking heart disease for first time new figures have shown.

Some 70,366 people died from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia last year compared to around 66,076 deaths from heart disease.

In 2015 heart disease was the biggest killer with 69,785 death, while 69,182 people died from dementia.

The switch is being driven by the ageing British population, combined with improvements in heart health, as more people are prescribed statins and beta blockers to cope with high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Charities have called on the government to double its annual £132 million dementia research funding over the next five years. Projections suggest that 1.2 million will be living with dementia by 2040.

The new figures combine data released last year from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) with new mortality statistics from theNorthern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, giving a full picture for Britain.

Tony Podesta Lobbied For Russia’s ‘Uranium One’ And Did Not File As A Foreign Agent

Podesta collected lobbying fees of $180,000 from Uranium One, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics, that discloses lobbying documents filed with Congress

Tony Podesta’s lobbying firm, the Podesta Group, represented the Russian-owned company Uranium One during former President Barack Obama’s administration and did not register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, The Daily Caller News Foundation has determined.

Podesta collected lobbying fees of $180,000 from Uranium One, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics, that discloses lobbying documents filed with Congress. The uranium company states on its web site it is a “wholly owned subsidiary” of RUSANO, the Russian State Corporation for Nuclear Energy.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller already is scrutinizing Podesta and his firm for allegedly failing to register as a lobbyist for the European Center for a Modern Ukraine, a Ukrainian government entity. His role there is tied up with former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort who was indicted on 12 counts on Oct. 30, including the failure to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

Weak 9: Monday Night Football Edition of Packers-Lions Among Lowest Rated Week 9 MNF Games Ever

If you wanted good news for the NFL from its Monday Night Football ratings, you got it. If you wanted bad news for the NFL from its Monday Night Football ratings, you also got it.

How the media and pundits interpret the information will depend on their agenda. However, if your agenda is truth, here are the facts.

Monday night’s contest between the Packers and Lions scored a 7.6 rating in metered markets. That number represents a 6 percent increase from the disastrous Chiefs-Broncos match-up of last week. The game also registered a 25% increase from MNF’s season low rating between the Colts and the Titans in mid-October.

That concludes the “good news” portion of our program.

Experts: Chinese Investment Flowing into Brazil ‘Like a Tsunami’

China’s investment in Brazil, the largest country in Latin America, has been growing by the year, largely under the radar of the United States, according to two experts.

Chinese foreign direct investment in Brazil grew 37 percent between 2010 and 2016, said Andre Soares, counselor at Inter-American Development Bank, at a discussion at the George Washington University’s Elliot School on Monday.

Soares said Chinese companies initially had difficulties entering the Brazilian market but learned it was much easier to do with Brazilian partners.

David Shambaugh, director of the China Policy Program and professor of political science at the George Washington University Elliot School of International Affairs, said: “FDI is flowing into Brazil like a tsunami.”

He observed that, on a recent trip to Brazil, his flight was filled with Chinese businessmen.

“The [Defense Intelligence Agency is] watching China’s military moves in all Latin American countries with growing concern.”

“I think we’re going to see an increasing Chinese military presence … In coming years, the U.S. is going to wake up and say, ‘Gee, how did that happen?'”

Three Myths About Fixing Social Security

Social Security is the largest, and arguably most important, program in the federal government. It is a life-line for millions. For the rest of us the program is a set of never-ending, polarizing arguments.

The contentiousness is caused in large part by the number and conflicting nature of the urban legends surrounding the system. Everyone has a fact that is someone else’s myth.

These convictions about the program shape who voters elect, and seriously limit what candidates are willing to say to the electorate. These beliefs have so penetrated the public conscience that actual policy makers are left herding unicorns.

Here are three myths that you will see repeated so many times that you assume that there is some truth to them. There isn’t.

Communism: Ignorance Isn't Bliss

As the 100th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution, responsible for unleashing one of the bloodiest and most oppressive epochs in world history, is upon us, a disturbing survey recently released by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation shows that a majority of Millennials favor socialism and communism over capitalism. The survey notes that 58% of Millennials would rather be living under some form of collectivist system than the free market-based system of capitalism.

Marion Smith, executive director of the Victims of Communism, states, “Millennials now make up the largest generation in America, and we’re seeing some deeply worrisome trends. Millennials are increasingly turning away from capitalism and toward socialism and even communism as a viable alternative.” Maybe even more troubling, the survey shows that nearly one in five Millennials view Josef Stalin as a “hero.” Out on a limb, but perhaps that’s because their public school education didn’t include the fact that Stalin killed tens of millions of his own citizens.

Some Re-thinking National Service as Population of Veterans Drops

Young Americans should be required to complete some form of military or civilian public service to ease tensions in the U.S. and as a solution to the decline in civic participation, according to service advocates, military veterans and political commentators, USA Today reports.

Less than 1 percent of U.S. adults are currently on active duty — 1.3 million in today's all-voluntary force compared to 3.1 million in 1996 — according to Census Bureau data. In 2016, 8 percent of adults were serving or had served in the military compared to 18 percent in 1980.

Lloyd Green, former staff secretary to the George H.W. Bush campaign's Middle East Policy Group, recently opined that national service could "bring the role of military into proper perspective," following the dust-up between Chief of Staff John Kelly and Rep. Frederica Wilson.

Added Robert Litan, an economist at the Council on Foreign Relations: "It would create a virtuous cycle." … and "would help bring us together gradually over time."

NASA: Volcanic Activity Heating Up Antarctica From Below

NASA says a mantle plume below West Antarctica's Marie Byrd Land is the cause for some of the glacial melting beneath the ice sheet.

Mantle plumes are areas of hot, upwelling mantle and are thought to be the cause of volcanic centers known as hotspots.

"Although the heat source isn't a new or increasing threat to the West Antarctic ice sheet, it may help explain why the ice sheet collapsed rapidly in an earlier era of rapid climate change, and why it is so unstable today," the study says.

Mexican Border State Cops Executed U.S. Tourists and Covered It Up, Say Sources

SALTILLO, Coahuila — Authorities in this border state set their sights on a group of police officers believed to have executed two U.S. tourists and then covered up the crime by claiming the victims were armed drug smugglers.

Initially, members of a metropolitan special response unit known as “GROM” claimed that two men riding in a maroon pickup ran a checkpoint along the highway that connects this state with Zacatecas. As Breitbart Texas initially reported, Coahuila state authorities falsely claimed that the two men ran a checkpoint and then opened fire on police officers, who chased them. In response, police officers opened fire and killed the two alleged gunmen. The two men have since been identified as U.S. tourists. According to Mexico’s Reforma, the victims were identified as Demetrius Atkins and Edgar Valdez Rodriguez, a Mexican national but legal resident in Missouri.

State officials revealed to Breitbart Texas that the theory presented by the cops has not held up to scrutiny and obtained arrest warrants against three members of the GROM.

Joe Biden says Hillary backers 'would stop at nothing'

Joe Biden knew he was capable of beating Hillary Clinton in the presidential race - but decided not to run fearing a 'stop at nothing' campaign by her backers, the former vice president has revealed in his new memoir.

In Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose, set to be released November 14, Biden reveals how he wrestled with the idea of running for office before and after his son Beau's death, and even admits he did not want to be Obama's vice president in 2008.

The book documents Biden's life as President Obama's tenure drew to a close and the media's focus had shifted to the prospects of the presidency.

It is certain to fuel the bitter infighting in the Democrats which has lasted since they were shocked by Clinton's defeat a year ago Wednesday.

Biden offers little direct personal criticism of Clinton but his message is unmistakable.

'My numbers on trustworthiness, honesty, and empathy were as high as they had ever been. And I was strongest where the most formidable candidate, Hillary Clinton, was weakest: the key swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida,' he writes.

DEA to Emergency Schedule all Fentanyls

DEA News: Department of Justice Announces Significant Tool to Prosecute Opioid Traffickers by Emergency Scheduling all Fentanyls

Washington, D.C. -
The Department of Justice today announced that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) intends to take immediate action against the flow of illicit fentanyl analogues into this country and the alarming increase in overdose deaths linked to synthetic opioids by scheduling all fentanyl-related substances on an emergency basis.

When the DEA’s order takes effect, anyone who possesses, imports, distributes, or manufactures any illicit fentanyl analogue will be subject to criminal prosecution in the same manner as for fentanyl and other controlled substances. The action announced today will make it easier for federal prosecutors and agents to prosecute traffickers of all forms of fentanyl-related substances.

“President Trump has made it a cornerstone of his presidency to combat the deadly drug crisis in America, and today the Department of Justice is taking an important step toward halting the rising death toll caused by illicit fentanyls in the United States,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “By scheduling all fentanyls, we empower our law enforcement officers and prosecutors to take swift and necessary action against those spreading these deadly poisons. I also urge the many members of Congress who clearly share our concern and alarm over fentanyl’s role in our opioid overdose epidemic to do their part by permanently scheduling these lethal substances.”

The bulk of illicit fentanyls arrive in the United States through the mail or express shipping systems, or are imported into the United States across the southwest border. Overseas chemical manufacturers, aided by illicit domestic distributors, currently attempt to evade regulatory controls by creating structural variants of fentanyl that are not directly listed under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). Without the action announced today, prosecutors must overcome cumbersome evidentiary hurdles to secure convictions of these traffickers under the Analogue Act.

The DEA’s action is a proactive approach to minimize the potential harm of these substances with no medical or industrial use and will facilitate criminal, civil, and administrative actions against anyone trafficking in fentanyl variants. The temporary scheduling will go into effect no earlier than 30 days after the DEA publishes its notice of intent and will last up to two years, with a possibility of a one-year extension if certain conditions are met.

“Today’s action represents just one step in the ongoing fight to battle the opioid epidemic,” said DEA Acting Administrator Robert W. Patterson. “DEA is committed to using all of its tools to aggressively fight and address the opioid crisis and growing fentanyl problem plaguing the United States.”

This action is the latest in a series of aggressive and innovative actions by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Justice to stem the opioid epidemic through support to law enforcement and public health authorities.

It Begins: Pension Bailout Bill To Be Introduced This Week

Over the past year we have provided extensive coverage of what will likely be the biggest, most politically charged, and most significant financial crisis facing the aging U.S. population: a multi-trillion pension storm, which was recently dubbed "one of the most heated battles of a lifetime" by John Mauldin. The reason, in a nutshell, why the US public pension problem has stumped so many professionals is simple: for lack of a better word, it is an unsustainable Ponzi scheme, in which satisfying accrued pension and retirement obligations requires not only a constant inflow of new money, but also fixed income returns, typically in the 6%+ range, which are virtually unfeasible in a world where global debt/GDP is in the 300%+ range. Which is why we, and many others, have long speculated that it is only a matter of time before the matter receives political attention, and ultimately, a taxpayer bailout.

That moment may be imminent. According to Pensions and Investments magazine, Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown from Ohio plans to introduce legislation that would allow struggling multiemployer pension funds to borrow from the U.S. Treasury to remain solvent.

The bill, which is co-sponsored by another Democrat, Rep. Tim Ryan, also of Ohio, could be introduced as soon as this week or shortly after. It would create a new office within the Treasury Department called the Pension Rehabilitation Administration. The funds would come from the sale of Treasury-issued bonds to financial institutions. The pension funds could borrow for 30 years at low interest rates. The one, and painfully amusing, restriction for borrowers is "they could not make risky investments", which of course will be promptly circumvented in hopes of generating outsized returns and repaying the Treasury's "bailout" loan, ultimately leading to massive losses on what is effectively a taxpayer-funded pension bailout.

The Democratic victories in Virginia and New Jersey are "irrelevant," Sebastian Gorka told Newsmax TV on Wednesday, because "they have to look in the mirror and reform themselves."

"The kid's pointing at the emperor and the emperor has no clothes on," the former Trump White House deputy assistant told "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker in an interview.

"I'm very happy to have them celebrate, because that means they haven't learned anything from Nov. 8," he said. "It is great for the president, it's great for true conservativism.

"Nobody is surprised at this result.

"If you think this is a victory for the Democrats, you don't understand that New Jersey and Virginia were never Trump territory."

Gorka said he lives in Virginia and the Commonwealth "has changed the last 20 years with the influx of liberal government employees by the truckload.

Late week Arctic blast may not be the last of the month

Let the games begin…it is now snowing in State College and Altoona in upstate Pennsylvania and the look to winter is suddenly upon us in the Mid-Atlantic region. Low pressure today will head towards the Mid-Atlantic coastline and a cold rain in the I-95 corridor may actually end as a mix of sleet or snow tonight to the north and west of the big cities.

A powerful cold front will arrive with gusty winds on Thursday night and usher in an Arctic blast for Friday and Saturday with the lowest temperatures of the season so far. An overall upper-atmosphere pattern with “high-latitude blocking” is looking increasingly likely for later this month and that could result in more cold air outbreaks for the Mid-Atlantic region by the time Thanksgiving week rolls around.

FBI Raids Human Body Parts Broker

The FBI has raided MedCure, a national company that solicits people to donate their bodies to science and then sells human parts for use by researchers and educators.

The search warrant executed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the company's headquarters in Portland, Oregon on Nov. 1 is sealed, and the bureau and the company declined to comment on the nature of the FBI investigation, Reuters reported, but people familiar with the matter said the inquiry concerns the manner in which MedCure distributes body parts acquired from its donors.

MedCure is among the largest brokers of cadavers and body parts in the United States.

From 2011 through 2015, documents obtained under public-record laws show, the company received more than 11,000 donated bodies and distributed more than 51,000 body parts to medical industry customers nationally. In a current brochure, the company says that 80,000 additional people have pledged to donate their bodies to MedCure when they die.

FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele confirmed the day-long search of the 25,000-square-foot facility, but declined to comment further because the matter is under seal. A person familiar with the matter said that FBI agents took records from MedCure but did not remove human remains.

GREAT AGAIN: Unlike Obama, Trump doesn’t bow to emperor of Japan

One day at a time, Donald Trump is restoring America’s greatness.

That was evident again on Sunday when there was something Trump didn’t do — namely, continuing Barack Obama’s tradition of weakness by bowing to foreign leaders.

Trump Warns North Korea: 'Do Not Underestimate Us'

President Trump delivered a warning to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un not to underestimate U.S. resolve in the face of Pyongyang's nuclear threats. Trump also challenged other nations — especially China — not to stand idly by while Kim pursues his aggressive nuclear program.

"The time for excuses is over — now is the time for strength," Trump declared in a speech Wednesday morning to South Korea's National Assembly. "The world cannot tolerate the menace of a rogue regime that threatens it with nuclear devastation. All responsible nations must join forces to isolate the brutal regime of North Korea."

Where Buying Marijuana is Legal, But There’s Nowhere to Smoke It

Las Vegas’ reputation as a place where you can indulge your vices and have a good time helps it lure some 43 million visitors a year. But tourists heading to Sin City hoping to consume newly legal cannabis have a problem: There are few places in town, other than private homes, where someone can legally light up a joint.

In Nevada and the seven other states that allow people to consume marijuana for fun, it’s typically illegal to smoke or ingest the drug in dispensaries, bars, restaurants, city parks and public streets. Hotels and landlords often ban people from using the drug on their property.

“The next frontier is: Where do people use it?” said Nevada state Sen. Tick Segerblom, a Democrat who advocated for marijuana legalization. He said that creating lounges where people can legally consume the cannabis products they buy is the logical solution.

Target is closing Some Stores - List here

The chain says the closings are part of a natural process of trying to refine its portfolio of stores, shutting a few every year to winnow out the losers while expanding with promising new ones.

In Target's case, it says it will have opened 32 new stores in 2017, creating 2,000 jobs.

The 12 stores being closed will stay open through the holiday season and beyond, finally shutting on Feb. 3.

"This decision was not made lightly," said Target spokeswoman Erin Conroy. "We have a rigorous process in place to evaluate the performance of every store on an annual basis, closing or relocating underperforming locations as needed."

The closings come at a time when Target is facing tremendous pressure from online merchants like Amazon, which has forced it to watch costs and try to come up with creative strategies to keep its stores viable.

The stores being closed are:

•Eastland in Harper Woods, Mich.

•Hutchinson, Kans.

•Benton Harbor, Mich.

•Fergus Falls, Minn.

•Hastings, Minn.

•Macon, Ga.

•Slidell, La.

•Lauderhill, Fla.

•Matteson, Ill.

•Romeoville, Ill.

•Baltimore West

Paradise Papers: Apple's secret tax bolthole revealed

The world's most profitable firm has a secretive new structure that would enable it to continue avoiding billions in taxes, the Paradise Papers show.

They reveal how Apple sidestepped a 2013 crackdown on its controversial Irish tax practices by actively shopping around for a tax haven.

It then moved the firm holding most of its untaxed offshore cash, now $252bn, to the Channel Island of Jersey.

Apple said the new structure had not lowered its taxes.

It said it remained the world's largest taxpayer, paying about $35bn (£26bn) in corporation tax over the past three years, that it had followed the law and its changes "did not reduce our tax payments in any country".

Maryland Secretary of State John Wobensmith Announces Dissolution of Deceptive Veterans Charity

Maryland Joins 24 States in Settlement

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Secretary of State John C. Wobensmith and Attorney General Brian Frosh today announced that Maryland and 24 other states have approved a settlement with VietNow National Headquarters, Inc., an Illinois nonprofit corporation, resulting in the organization’s dissolution.

Since March 2015, VietNow – which also uses the name VeteransNow – had been raising money using deceptive telemarketing solicitation scripts. In response to the investigation by attorneys general from multiple states, including Maryland, VietNow admitted that it had not funded any programs assisting veterans. In addition, other VietNow scripts claimed that VietNow provided “medical facilities and treatment” to veterans but VietNow’s response identified no such programs. According to VietNow’s own fundraising report, less than 5% of funds raised went to its charitable programs. VietNow reported raising nearly $2 million nationwide.

“Scam artists who falsely claim to help veterans actually harm reputable veterans’ charities who, in fact, provide essential programs and services that support our troops and their families,” said Secretary of State Wobensmith. “We urge potential donors to be wary. These scammers are on the lookout for ways to take advantage of donors, often preying on those who want to help veterans. If you choose to give, please donate to well-established charities. We urge donors to check our website to determine if a charity is eligible to solicit in Maryland. Remember, give wisely and be wary of sketchy charities.”

“Scam veteran charities prey upon the generosity and goodwill of consumers who choose to support our veterans and military families,” said Attorney General Frosh. “Nationwide, we’ve stopped yet another sham charity from defrauding the public.”

The settlement appoints a receiver to dissolve VietNow and also obtains injunctive relief against VietNow’s directors and officers. The settlement also requires their cooperation in investigations of VietNow’s professional fundraisers. Upon dissolution, VietNow’s remaining funds will be paid to two national and well-respected veterans’ charities, Fisher House Foundation and Operation Homefront.
