America’s Long March toward a Secular Socialist Democracy
The United States is the only nation in the annals of mankind to be established on the basis of a political and social philosophy centered on natural, or God-given, rights. Yet, within 230 years of our founding, America has been essentially transformed into another secular socialist democracy. This metamorphosis is the end-product of a subtle but determined assault on that philosophical underpinning.
Property rights are the bedrock of the American political system; without that foundation, there is no freedom. The Founders held that property rights encompass not just physical property but also one’s life, labor and livelihood, as individuals own their own lives; therefore, they must own the products of that life that can be traded in free exchange with others. They further believed that the primary role of government is to guarantee and protect these property rights, and further, that these property rights are natural, or God given rights. Thus, the Declaration of Independence proclaims that Men “…are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable Rights…That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men…”

King Claims America Isn't Great
America isn’t the greatest country in the world, an opinion New York Daily News senior justice writer Shaun King tried to pass off as fact in his latest piece.
“The United States of America is the Brooklyn Nets. We are not the best country in the world. This is not my opinion. These are the facts. … And in every demonstrable category, our country is coming up very, very short,” King wrote earlier this week.
King tried to position a subjective statement, “America is not the greatest country,” as an objective fact by examining flaws in our country’s criminal justice and healthcare system, as well as poverty and income inequality. The only problem, though, is that King’s evidence is heavily flawed and doesn’t really provide an accurate picture of what’s going on in America.
Let’s take a closer look at the issues in King’s “Here’s why the United States is not the best country in the world.”
King first examines America’s “criminal justice nightmare” and how America incarcerates more people than any other country in the world, with King taking particular issue with the amount of black men incarcerated in the U.S.

WaPo Makes Desperate Attempt To Link GOP Shooter To Pro-Trump Radio Host
The Washington Post is suggesting the rhetoric of a “right-wing” radio host may have inspired a man the paper does not acknowledge was a liberal to shoot up a GOP baseball practice in June.
Without a speck of evidence that the shooter and Sen. Bernie Sanders supporter James T. Hodgkinson even listened to Bob Romanik, known for his use of invective and racial epithets, WaPo’s Peter Holley tried desperately to manufacture proof.
The article, reading more like an opportunity to tie Romanik, a “die hard supporter of President Trump,” to the virulent anti-Trump, anti-GOP shooter Hodgkinson, curiously left out his victims’ party affiliation — describing them as “four people shot” at a congressional baseball practice. The reader is provided no background as to Hodgkinson’s political motives, never mentioning he volunteered for Sander’s presidential campaign, nor anything else about his political leanings.

Radio Caller Goes Off On 'Fata**' Chris Christie
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie guest hosted a New York sports radio station Monday and got roasted by one caller who called him a “fatass” and a “bully.”
Mike in Montclair called into WFAN for the sole purpose of going off on Christie over his recent Beachgate scandal, and the exchange was incredible.
First, Mike told Christie, “the next time you want to sit on a beach that is closed to the entire world except you, you put your fatass in a car and go somewhere that’s open to all your constituents.”
Christie was obviously not thrilled with being made fun of for his weight, so he shot back calling Mike a “communist.”

Jane Sanders land deal: Federal probe reportedly seeking grand jury testimony
A federal probe into allegations that Sen. Bernie Sanders’ wife fraudulently obtained a nearly $10 million loan for a land expansion at a Vermont college has intensified, with prosecutors reportedly calling a state official to testify before a grand jury.
The federal investigation is focused on actions by Jane Sanders in 2010, when she was president of Burlington College.
At the time, she sought a multi-million dollar loan for a new campus on 33 acres along Lake Champlain. Sanders reportedly told college trustees and bank lenders that the college had millions of dollars in donations that could be used to repay the loan.
But The Washington Post reported Monday that trustees said they discovered many of the donors had not agreed to the amounts or the timing of donations listed in materials Mrs. Sanders provided.

Pugh, Hogan Collaborate To Reduce Crime In Baltimore
Gov. Larry Hogan and Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh met Monday afternoon to discuss ways to reduce crime in the city.
The mayor said she came away hopeful that the state and city will better share resources. The mayor said she considers the meeting productive and she walked away confident they will be working together to reduce crime.
Pugh discussed a wide range of crime-fighting strategies with the governor, from ways to put more officers on the street to adopting high-tech models from Los Angeles and Chicago.
"Part of that means advanced technology that we don't currently have. Some of it we do have, like we do have smartphones. We don't have computers in all of our cars, we don't have e-tickets yet," Pugh said. "We do have (gunshot detection and locator service) ShotSpotter. We don't have it wide enough in Baltimore City, and so we talked to him about that."

Vancouver Officer Yells at Mother who Left Kids in Hot Car
A Vancouver, British Columbia cop lost it on a woman who seemed to miss the danger she left her children in on a 86° day. The woman appears unresponsive to the officer as he lists the reasons why what she did to her children was unsafe.
“Do you realize what you have done?” the cop says to her. “Your children could have died.”
“Could you settle down?” the woman responds.
“No, no… Listen, your children could have died,” the officer continues. “Because it’s hot out here. It takes 2-3 minutes—why are you arguing?! Do you want me to seize your kids?”
The woman appears to still not get the point as the officer points out that a firetruck, an ambulance, and two police cars were on the premises in response to her leaving her children in a hot car.
The video then continues but the audio is lost. It’s unknown what happened the woman and her children.
According to the No Heat Stroke Organization, 718 children left in vehicles have died of heatstroke since 1998 as of July 7, 201

US Factory Orders Tumble Most Since November... "We're Gonna Need More War"
Despite all the exuberance over ISM 'soft' data, 'hard' data takes another hit today as Factory Orders for May tumbled 0.8% (worse than the 0.5% expected drop) for the biggest slide since November.
This is the second monthly decline in a row, signaling Q2 GDP may be weaker than expected.
Worse still, May saw the biggest (and first) MoM decline in US Manufacturers new Orders (ex-transportation) since Feb 2016...
The biggest culrpits for the decline are:
Defense aircraft and parts -30.8%, and
Non-defense aircraft and parts -11.6%
We're gonna need moar war.
And the divergence between the 'industrial' economy and the 'industrial' average continues to widen...

OCPD Sergeant, Beach Patrol Officer Partner On Returning Stolen School Ring Found On Beach To Owner
OCEAN CITY — With a little beginner’s luck and a lot of perseverance, a Virginia Beach man last week was reunited with his class of 1985 Wicomico High School ring found on the beach in Ocean City after 33 years.
When he isn’t working the beat, Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) Sergeant Mark Paddack is an avid metal detector enthusiast who, over the years, has reunited dozens of beachgoers and visitors to Ocean City with valuable items and memorable keepsakes and had a direct hand in one of the more remarkable finds last week. In an effort to expand its community outreach efforts, the Ocean City Beach Patrol earlier this year wanted to purchase a metal detector to assist with locating keys, phones and jewelry lost in known areas of the beach.
Paddack, as the OCPD’s de facto expert on metal detecting and locating items on the beach, consulted the OCBP on the appropriate metal detector for its needs and goals that would fit its budget. With Paddack’s advice, the OCBP purchased the metal detector from the Discoversea Museum in Fenwick Island.

Illegal immigrant mom accused in stabbing deaths of children, husband smiles in court
The illegal immigrant accused of stabbing to death her four children and husband in their Georgia home put on a bizarre show in court on Friday, smiling and posing for news cameras and even giving a double "thumbs up" gesture.
Maria Isabel Garduno-Martinez, 33, whom local law enforcement identified as Isabel Martinez, entered the U.S. from Mexico illegally, U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement spokesman Bryan Cox said in an email to The Associated Press Friday. It's unclear if the rest of her family came to the U.S. legally.
Martinez appeared in her first court hearing on Friday after being charged with five counts of malice murder, five counts of murder and six counts of aggravated assault.
She denied legal representation, telling Gwinnett County Magistrate Judge Michael Thorpe that her attorney is the people and her faith.

Chuck Schumer on the Important Issues of our Day: 'Snortable Chocolate'
U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer wants "snortable chocolate" powder to be reviewed by federal regulators, saying he's worried that it could prove harmful and is being marketed like a drug.
In a letter Saturday, the New York Democrat asked the Food and Drug Administration to investigate the use of caffeine in inhalable food products such as so-called Coco Loko. It's gotten buzz in recent weeks.
Schumer, the Senate minority leader, says there are too many unanswered questions about a product pitched under the innocent-sounding name of chocolate.
"This suspect product has no clear health value," he said in a statement. "I can't think of a single parent who thinks it is a good idea for their children to be snorting over-the-counter stimulants up their noses."

Republican healthcare crisis deepens as McConnell hedges
There are new signs of the GOP's inability pass an Obamacare repeal bill, as Republican holdouts balk and the senate leader has begun floating a new way forward.
“If my side is unable to agree on an adequate replacement, then some kind of action with regard to private health insurance markets must occur,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said at a Rotary Club lunch during a trip home to his conservative home state of Kentucky.
"We have an obligation to the American people to try and improve what we currently have. What we do know is the status quo is not sustainable," McConnell said, adding that 'no action is not an alternative.'

Trump’s ICE Director Helped Author Obama’s Immigration Executive Orders
The Obama-holdover chosen by DHS Secretary John Kelly to direct Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for the Trump Administration helped author Obama’s controversial immigration priorities and executive orders, and he also publicly praised them. Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan made the comments on video shortly before the 2016 presidential election at a time when most thought Hillary Clinton would win, but Donald Trump won and now Homan claims to be an immigration hawk.
Trump’s campaign largely centered around opposing former President Barack Obama’s executive orders on immigration and the release of criminal illegal aliens into U.S. communities. Acting ICE Director Homan was the Enforcement and Removal Director (ERO) for President Obama and even received an elite award from the former president for his efforts on immigration. Homan has come under fire from the ICE Council for being Obama’s official who oversaw Obama’s release of tens of thousands of criminal illegal aliens into the U.S.

Rascovar: Repealing Obamacare is Hogan’s conundrum
By Barry Rascovar
For MarylandReporter.com
Though he’s a Republican, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan must pray each night that his fellow Republicans in Congress fall flat on their faces in their concerted efforts to wipe out Obamacare and replace it with a vastly inferior health care safety net.
Hogan quietly voiced opposition to House and Senate “repeal and replace” bills in a statement he had issued in Annapolis while on an overseas trip.
He’s trying hard to avoid offending Maryland Republicans who support an immediate repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Yet he’s acutely aware of the harm, and human pain, such a move would have on hundreds of thousands of Marylanders.
Maryland is in a unique situation when it comes to the “repeal and replace” movement. Ending Obamacare could place this state’s entire hospital system in jeopardy. Hospitals in the Free State stand to lose a staggering $2.3 billion in Medicare and Medicaid payments if Obamacare abruptly ends.

NASA spacecraft to fly over Jupiter's Great Red Spot
An unmanned NASA spacecraft is about to fly over a massive storm raging on Jupiter, in a long-awaited a journey that could shed new light on the forces driving the planet's Great Red Spot.
The flyby of the Juno spacecraft, surveilling the 10,000-mile-wide (16,000-kilometer-wide) storm, is scheduled for 9:55 pm Monday (0155 GMT Tuesday).
"Jupiter's mysterious Great Red Spot is probably the best-known feature of Jupiter," said Scott Bolton, principal investigator of Juno from the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio.
"This monumental storm has raged on the solar system's biggest planet for centuries."
The storm looks like a churning red knot on the planet's surface. It has been monitored since 1830, and may have existed for more than 350 years, the US space agency said.

Eastern Europe Chooses To Keep Western Civilization
"The greatest difference is that in Europe, politics and religion have been separated from one another, but in the case of Islam it is religion that determines politics" - Zoltan Balog, Hungary's Minister for Human Resources.
It is no coincidence that President Donald Trump chose Poland, a country that fought both Nazism and Communism, to call on the West to show a little willingness in its existential fight against the new totalitarianism: radical Islam.
"Possessing weapons is one thing, and possessing the will to use them is another thing altogether". — Professor William Kilpatrick, Boston College.
In a historic speech to an enthusiastic Polish crowd before the meeting of the G20 Summit leaders, US President Donald Trump describedthe West's battle against "radical Islamic terrorism" as the way to protect "our civilization and our way of life". Trump asked if the West had the will to survive:
"Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?"
Trump's question might find an answer in Eastern Europe, where he chose to deliver his powerful speech.

Trump administration has fired more than 500 VA employees since January
Department of Veterans Affairs officials have fired more than 500 misbehaving employees since January, according to data posted online Friday.
VA Secretary David Shulkin touted his agency's decision to publish its efforts to hold VA employees accountable, unveiling new requirements for updating the public on personnel actions.
"Veterans and taxpayers have a right to know what we're doing to hold our employees accountable and make our personnel actions transparent," Shulkin said in a statement. "Posting this information online for all to see, and updating it weekly, will do just that."
The VA has removed 526 employees since Jan. 20, according to the accountability report released on Friday. Agency officials have demoted another 27 employees and temporarily suspended an additional 194 employees for longer than two weeks. The list does not include the employees' names but shows their positions.
"In addition to posting the adverse action information, Secretary Shulkin announced that he is requiring approval by a senior official of any monetary settlement with an employee over the amount of $5,000," the VA noted Friday. "Any settlement above this amount will require the personal approval of the undersecretary, assistant secretary or equivalent senior-level official within the organization in which the dispute occurs."

IRS shuts down mom and pop dressmaker, sells dresses within hours
The unmarked vehicles arrived in the morning. More than 20 armed agents poured out.
Hours later, Mii’s Bridal & Tuxedo was out of business after serving customers for decades. Its entire inventory of wedding gowns and dresses as well as sewing machines and other equipment were sold at auction.

$22M In State Funding To Help Fight Heroin, Opioid Epidemic
Gov. Larry Hogan is sending $22 million to jurisdictions across the state to help fight the heroin and opioid epidemic, and a large portion of the money is going to the city of Baltimore.
Baltimore City Health Commissioner Leana Wen said nearly two people died from overdoses every day in Baltimore. She said the state funding is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done.
Officials call the epidemic a public health crisis with 694 overdoses in Baltimore City in 2016, up from 393 the previous year.
"One out of every three overdoses that occur in the state of Maryland occurs in Baltimore City, that's why our request for the state is that the resources should be targeted to areas of greatest need," Wen said.

All red meat is not created equal -- Yes, it can be part of a heart healthy diet
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, contributing to more than 22,000 deaths each day. While these statistics may seem alarming, what’s more shocking is that very few at-risk patients actually follow a heart-healthy diet as advised by the American Heart Association. While genetics certainly play a role, lifestyle can have a significant impact on cardiovascular health. But, when it comes to diet and heart disease prevention, the role of red meat is often debated, leaving patients confused and concerned. In the last several years, there has been a growing body of evidence showing lean beef’s positive role in a heart-healthy diet.
Most of us already know that our cholesterol levels play a significant role in determining risk for heart disease. Increased levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad cholesterol” are associated with an increased risk of heart disease. Studies show that particular types of saturated fats can further increase bad cholesterol levels. As a result of these findings, many leading health organizations recommend reducing saturated fat in the diet. This is commonly interpreted in vague, general statements such as “reduce intake of red meat” or “eat less beef” without taking into consideration the role oflean red meat. In short, not all red meat is created equal. For example, did you know that half of the fatty acids in a serving of beef are heart-healthy mono-unsaturated fatty acids, the same type of fat found in olive oil? Moreover, nearly one-third of the saturated fat in beef is stearic acid, a fatty acid that has been shown to have neutral effects on cholesterol levels.
According to the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, lean beef, which has less than 10 grams of total fat and 4.5 grams or fewer of saturated fat per 3.5-ounce serving, can fit in a heart-healthy dietary pattern. In addition, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet is one of the premier heart-healthy diets recommended by health professionals today. This diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein, has been extensively studied in both observational as well as clinical trials and recommends up to six ounces of lean meat, including lean red meat, poultry or eggs, every day.

Reports: Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner Met with Kremlin-Linked Lawyer
Members of President Trump’s family reportedly met with a lawyer linked with the Kremlin in June of last year — although the Trump team believes the meeting may have been sought as part of an effort to create the impression of an improper connection between Trump’s team and Russia.
The New York Times reported late Saturday that Donald Trump Jr., along with then-campaign chair Paul Manafort and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, met with a Russian lawyer with connections to the Kremlin at Trump Tower.
The Times reported that the meeting occurred on June 9, and it notes that this is the first confirmed private meeting between a Russian national and a member of Trump’s inner circle. Reps for Trump Jr. and Kushner confirmed the meeting to the Times but described it as primarily about an adoption program.
The lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, has reportedly been fighting the Magnitsky Act — an American law that blacklists Russian human rights abusers and triggered Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt American adoptions of Russian children.
Mark Corallo, a spokesman for President Trump’s legal team, told Circa:
"We have learned from both our own investigation and public reports that the participants in the meeting misrepresented who they were and who they worked for. Specifically, we have learned that the person who sought the meeting is associated with Fusion GPS, a firm which according to public reports, was retained by Democratic operatives to develop opposition research on the President and which commissioned the phony Steele dossier."

Line in the Sand: Next Spending Bill Must Fund President Trump’s Border Wall
House Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) told Breitbart News exclusively that the next government spending bill must fund President Donald Trump’s promised border wall, or there will likely be a government shutdown.
In a phone interview on Monday morning, Meadows—the chairman of the most influential group of House conservatives in Congress, the House Freedom Caucus—said that there are enough members in Congress to hold the line against any funding bill that does not explicitly provide for the beginning of construction of President Trump’s border wall.
What’s more, Meadows says, his conversations with President Trump indicate that the president is supportive of such efforts and would veto—or refuse to sign—any government funding bill that falls short of the commitments necessary to begin construction on the border wall.
“There is nothing more critical that has to be funded than funding the border wall for two reasons,” Meadows, a key ally of President Trump, said in his phone interview with Breitbart News. “One is it is a commitment that the president made to the American people and one that he intends on keeping, but the second part of that is for our national security we must secure our borders. And the American people will accept no less.”

A President’s War on the Media
After CNN was forced to retract yet another fake news story about “Russian collusion” it did what all Leftists do when caught in a lie: It played “victim.” It did so by claiming that President Trump’s calling out of the fake story, which CNN now admits was a fake, was an attack on freedom of speech in America. So, according to CNN, publishing fake “news” is free speech, while pointing out the truth is an attack on free speech.
To hammer home the point that it, CNN, is the nation’s protector of free speech, the network attempted to taunt the president on the Fourth of July by tweeting an inscription that is chiseled into a wall at the “Newseum” in Washington, D.C. They apparently thought that this would be a death blow to the president, for the quote was from the god of the state, Abe Lincoln. “Let the people know the facts, and the country will be safe,” Abe supposedly said. Yes, just let them “know” that Vladimir Putin personally hypnotized Donald Trump, turning him into a Manchurian candidate, and then rigged all the election machinery in the United States to assure his election. They will then be “safe” to know that Hillary Clinton is their real president.
Unfortunately for CNN, the Lincoln quote is more fake news because the quote itself is a fake, as proven by several researchers and reported by The Federalist Web site. How telling –and appropriate — that CNN and the “Newseum” invoke this fake Lincoln quote as their motto. Lincoln was a tyrant and a dictator with regard to the media, shutting down over 300 opposition newspapers in the North during the War to Prevent Southern Independence and imprisoning their editors and owners without due process. No other president has ever come close to being as big an enemy of freedom of the press.

Frosh Defends Standoffs With Federal Officials
In studio with C4 on Friday, Attorney General Brian Frosh defended the flurry of suits he's either joined or spearheaded against President Donald Trump and administration officials.
Among the cases the Democrat has joined are one against Environmental Protection Agency's director over pesticide approval and another against Education Secretary Betsy DeVos for halting implementation of an Obama-era rule affecting for-profit colleges.
The one lawsuit he's spearheaded, with District of Columbia counterpart Karl Racine, charges Trump with violating the Constitution's emoluments clause through continued ownership interest in the properties that bear his name at home and abroad. In many cases, these projects either have foreign government investments or foreign government tenants.

Pew: 58% of Republicans Say Colleges Have Negative Impact on US
In a sharp decline over the past two years, nearly six in 10 Republicans believe colleges and universities have a negative impact on the U.S., according to the latest survey by the Pew Research Center.
While 55 percent of Americans overall have a positive view of colleges/universities, 58 percent of Republicans hold a negative attitude — a stunning 13-point change from 2016 and 21-point change from 2015, according to Pew.

Sad Hillary Clinton Pondering Front Line Role in Midterm Elections
Clinton has her eye on districts in which she defeated Donald Trump, according to source
Defeated Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is considering her role in the campaign for the 2018 midterm elections, multiple sources told The Hill.
Clinton, who has been a prominent figure in the Democratic Party for many years, having served as first lady of the United States, a senator from New York, and Secretary of State under the Obama administration, has already launched a PAC aimed at supporting Democratic candidates in next year’s elections.
However, a close and long-term confidante told the publication that Clinton has her eye on districts in which she defeated Donald Trump, as she plots her revenge for her electoral college landslide defeat in the presidential elections.
“She’s very well aware of how she performed in those districts,” the source said. “She knows she won Darrell Issa’s district by 8,” a reference to the Californian Republican’s seat seen as a Democratic target. “She knows she came close in about a handful of others. She has studied this stuff thoroughly.”

The Democrats’ Soviet Insane Asylum for Trump
The former Soviet Union possessed many imaginative mechanisms to deal with the problem of enemies of the people who obstructed the path to socialist utopia -- now known as “social justice.” One of those mechanisms was the practice of confining individuals who were thinking the wrong thoughts to insane asylums. Indeed, if you caused any trouble for the commissars, a good inoculation of neuroleptics (powerful drugs used to “quiet” the symptoms of schizophrenia), forcibly administered through a tube in the nose, could do wonders in bringing your politically incorrect behavior to a halt.
Today’s progressive Democrats are faithfully journeying on an uplifting odyssey. Horrified by Trump’s opposition to Obama’s “fundamental transformations,” they have found their own neuroleptics in the form of the 25th Amendment and a bill seeking to impeach the president for being mentally unsound. Indeed, Trump has to be mentally deranged and unfit for office, because what other reason could possibly explain his frightening disagreement with the Left’s un-American creed of identity politics -- race and gender uber alles? What other factor could possibly be at play in his embrace of individual freedom and responsibility -- and in his rejection of group privileges and racial/gender hierarchies that, as David Horowitz has noted, can only be manifested after America’s Constitution is null and void?

Democratic strategist: De Blasio’s trip to Germany ‘unbelievable’
"I was stunned, given that the police officer was assassinated...,' Democrat strategist said
Mark Penn, a top Democratic consultant, blasted New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) for traveling to Germany to join a protest against President Trump, calling the move “unbelievable.”
Penn went after de Blasio for potentially missing the funeral of a New York police officer killed the day before he went to Hamburg, Germany, where Trump was attending the G-20 summit.
“I was stunned, given that the police officer was assassinated, not to really be with the police, not to really be at the funeral. Maybe he is going to come back in time [for the funeral],” Penn said in an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis that aired Sunday on AM 970 in New York.
“If he doesn’t, it is just unheard of for a New York mayor instead to go off to talk to a German socialist group. It is unbelievable,” said Penn, a former pollster and senior adviser to Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Bankrupt Illinois: Beginning of the End for Democratic Party’s Social Welfare Experiment
“Great Society” programs of FDR, LBJ collapsing under mountain of debt
WASHINGTON, D.C. – With Illinois making last-ditch efforts to hold off an imminent statewide bankruptcy, we may be witnessing the beginning of the end for Democratic Party socialist rule at the state and local level, as well as collapse of the FDR-LBJ “Great Society” social welfare state.
Late Thursday night, the Illinois Democrat-controlled House overrode by a 71-42 vote Republican Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto to pass a massive tax hike that includes a $5 billion income tax increase for the residents of the state.
Rauner had begged the General Assembly to sustain his vetoes of a $36 billion spending plan financed with a $5 billion income tax increase, arguing the 32 percent income tax increase amounted to “a 2-by-4 smacked across the foreheads of the people of Illinois.”

Steve McQueen: The salvation of an American icon
This spring they actually found it. Steve McQueen’s iconic 1968 Ford Mustang GT. Only traces of its original highland green paint job remained as it had sat unnoticed in a backyard in Mexico for years. Collectors had been searching for it for decades.
Of course, this is not just any old ’68 Stang. This was one of the original cars used in the classic Steve McQueen film Bullitt, a film that defined “cool” for a generation of Americans.
Now, I get it. This wasn’t discovering the Ark of the Covenant or the Ten Commandments, but the discovery stopped me dead in my tracks for two reasons.
First, I own a 1968 Bullitt myself. Not the original, of course, but a very close replica. You can call it my “midlife crisis!” People either “get it” or they don’t. On more than one occasion, when I have parked it in the lot, I will return with two or more admirers (always guys) standing by it with lots of questions.

Rand Paul's reform proposal could revolutionize U.S. health care
On June 27, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, urging him and the other Republicans in the Senate to abandon their plans to replace ObamaCare with what Paul believes—and rightly so—is a model too similar to the one created by the Affordable Care Act. Among the specific provisions Paul cites are the Senate leadership’s plan to offer millions of Americans federal tax credits and provide insurance companies with $136 billion to prop up the health insurance marketplace.
While those and many of Paul’s other points are worthy of consideration, there is one part of Paul’s health care reform wish list that is particularly important and worthy of significant attention: his call for “association health plans.”
As Paul explains in his letter, “While I appreciate the inclusion of Small Business Health Plans in the BCRA, I believe improvements could be made to expand upon this provision to allow for greater freedom for individuals and small businesses to pool together for the purpose of obtaining health insurance coverage.”

Bill Gates Urges End To Generosity, Fears African Refugees Will Decimate Europe
In an interview published Saturday, Bill Gates told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that Europe will be devastated by African refugees if they don’t “make it more difficult for Africans to reach the continent,” and the solution lies in European nations committing billions of taxpayer money towards overseas aid.
According to Gates, the combination of explosive population growth in Africa combined with Europe’s notoriously generous open-border migrant welfare programs – as illustrated by the ‘German attitude to refugees’ have incentivised migrants to flood into Europe.
“On the one hand you want to demonstrate generosity and take in refugees, but the more generous you are, the more word gets around about this - which in turn motivates more people to leave Africa.”
While Germany has been one of the pioneers of the open door policy, it cannot “take in the huge, massive number of people who are wanting to make their way to Europe.”
Thus Gates advised European nations to take action in order to make it “more difficult for Africans to reach the continent via the current transit routes.”

Head injuries nearly double your risk of dementia
Head injuries almost double a person's risk of developing dementia, new research shows.
Experts say the study by University of Maryland neurologists could transform how brain inflammation is understood, and, ultimately, how it is treated.
It showed inflammation caused by traumatic brain injury can spread and cause long-lasting damage.
The risk is particularly high for men aged between 41 and 56, they found.

Vitamin D in high doses helps heal sunburnt skin
Vitamin D 'significantly' reduces skin redness and swelling, a new study has found.
And not only did it suppress inflammation, the 'sunshine vitamin' was also discovered to activate skin repair genes.
With participants who took a supplement an hour after a burn, the higher their vitamin d levels, the more the burn had healed 48 hours later.
The findings of the trial – the first of its kind – suggest vitamin D increases levels of an anti-inflammatory enzyme in skin.
Called arginase-1, it enhances tissue repair after damage and helps activate other anti-inflammatory proteins.

Called arginase-1, it enhances tissue repair after damage and helps activate other anti-inflammatory proteins.

WWI Commission Releases Action Plan for Commemorating Centennial
Outline Presented to Governor Hogan Includes Recommendations to Highlight the 100th Anniversary of WWI and Maryland’s Role
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland World War I Centennial Commission today presented Governor Larry Hogan with an action plan to commemorate the 100th anniversary of WWI and Maryland’s role in the war. The plan includes more than two dozen recommendations and actions in five broad areas including development and fundraising, history and education, memorials and sites, social media and technology, and partnerships and engagement to highlight the historic significance of “The Great War” for the duration of the centennial.
The presentation of the plan at the Maryland State House today coincided with the public display of an original World War I 112th Machine Gun Battalion (29th Division) flag donated to the Maryland State Archives by the family of Millard Tydings. Tydings was a former State Senator, Speaker of the House, and Member of Congress who served in the U.S. Army during World War I. A reproduction of the flag will be on display next to the World War I plaque in the State House for the duration of the centennial commemoration.
“World War I forever changed our state, as it forever changed the world,” said Governor Hogan. “Today, I am incredibly pleased to accept the World War I Centennial Commission’s action report which will help us to provide proper recognition to our veterans, and to preserve our history as a state and as a nation.”
In addition to lives lost, 62,000 Marylanders fought in World War I. Among those, 11,000 were African American soldiers. Two thousand women served in the US Army Nurse Corps and 1,551 women served in the US Navy Nurse Corps at military base hospitals overseas that were provided by Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland, and the American Red Cross.

- Partnering with the Western Front Association in sponsoring a statewide, two-day symposium to provide public access to the history of the war and to highlight the actions of Marylanders during the War.
- Supporting the National History Day Contest and encouraging Maryland students to participate by securing a monetary prize to be awarded to a Maryland student selected as the winning entry for a theme focused on World War I.
- Collaborating with Maryland arts organizations to display photographs and artwork reflective of people, places, and events from the War including captions and interpretive materials to explain the importance and history of the items.
- Partnering with the Maryland Historic Trust and the Maryland Military Monuments Commission to assist with the evaluation and restoration of the 65 World War I monuments throughout Maryland and developing a book providing information on each of these Maryland’s monuments.
- Creating an online database of all of the names listed on the monuments and memorials in Maryland to allow people to search for family members or namesakes who served.
- Creating a robust website with links to local, state, national, and international organizations as well as primary and secondary sources of materials to assist people in locating information on ancestors, notable people, and significant WWI events.
The Commission will also engage and partner with heritage organizations such as the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture, the Maryland Women's Heritage Center, and the Jewish Museum of Maryland to help highlight the diversity of Maryland’s role in the War.
The World War I Centennial Commission was established by an Executive Order signed by Governor Larry Hogan on November 11, 2015 (Executive Order 01.01.2015.27). The Commission consists of eleven members and an executive director who have backgrounds, connections with, or interest in the military, veterans, and the history of World War I. The Governor established the Commission to recognize the 100th Anniversary of World War I and the role of Marylanders in the War. The Executive Order required the Commission to submit an Action Plan to the Governor by June 30, 2017. Obama Holdover Ethics Chief Resigns, Joins Soros-Funded NGO
Walter Shaub Jr., the Obama-appointed director of the Office of Government Ethics (OGE), announced Thursday he will be stepping down from his post six months early.
Shaub, described by the Washington Post as “the federal government’s most persistent critic of the Trump administration’s approach to ethics,” will leave office effective July 19 and become the senior ethics director of the non-profit Campaign Legal Center (CLC). He posted his resignation letter, which gave no specific reason for his departure, to his personal Twitter.
Later, Shaub told National Public Radio that “The current situation has made it clear that the ethics program needs to be stronger than it is. At the Campaign Legal Center, I’ll have more freedom to push for reform. I’ll also be broadening my focus to include ethics issues at all levels of government.”
The CLC is an ostensibly non-partisan group that has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from left-wing billionaire George Soros. In 2010 and 2011, the group was instrumental in urging the IRS to open its now-infamous targeted investigations into conservative and “Tea Party” non-profits with a series of letters drafted along with other Soros-funded groups.
