Steelers-Bengals was a violent mess and ‘terrible for the NFL’

Ben Roethlisberger shrugged off a particularly violent Steelers 23-20 victory over the Bengals on Monday night that left some feeling queasy over the sport.

“This game is hard to watch for a number of reasons…terrible for the NFL and the game of football overall,” Cowboys great and Fox analyst Troy Aikman tweeted.
“The Steelers & Bengals do everything they can to be as combative as possible…it’s beyond football. This isn’t what competition is about,” Vikings Hall of Famer Cris Carter said on “First Things First” Tuesday morning.

Opposing linebackers were the victims of the two most brutal moments.

  2. Actually, I thought it was one of the best hard-hitting games that I've seen in a long while.
This was 'old-skool" football at it's finest.
Cheap shots? Maybe a few. That's why ref's carry penalty flags.
I knew there would be an uproar about this sort of physical game when they first instated the "in the grasp" rule.
If the PC crowd dominates the rules, then watch for the NFL becoming a Flag Football League.
They've pretty much did that with the quarterbacks already.
My thoughts and prayers are with Ryan Shazier. I do have sympathy for his injury - and I'm sure he blames no one but himself. As a linebacker in high school, the first lesson I was taught was to keep your head up on tackles. Ryan Shazier just made a mistake.

  3. What does anyone really expect! The NFL recruits the most aggressive, violent animals they can find and they get what they wanted. Deal with it. I don't watch much football because I don't care to gamble or get drunk. The two mainstays of NFL supporters.

  9. 8:25.....you smacked that idiot at 8:04!
I wasn't aware anyone needed to READ a picture book, but when you are a pompous ass, logic and sense don't really mean much.

  10. A lot of cons get PhD's in jail. It was a quite refreshing slober=knocker of a game. Softened up the Stoolers for the Ravens this week.
