Salisbury Zoo To Receive Yet Another Bear With Major Health Problems

With the Salisbury Zoo staff in Ecuador to pick up an andean bear and once again they are accepting  the bottom of the bottom when it comes to animals and their having major issues. So why does this matter, because YOU are paying a TON OF MONEY to the association you should've never been a part of in the first place. Then, when you need an animal they deliver you CRAP.

The last bear had massive mental issues and would rub his body all day and night against a concrete wall. The Zoo had to give the bear very expensive medication multiple times a day.

While I was not able to capture the best images above, this bear has bald spots on its neck and back. I'm telling you Folks, the Salisbury leadership constantly makes a joke out of each and every one of you. Between 5,000 dead animals at the Zoo that was covered up for many years, now they're paying millions of dollars to participate to get accredited by an organization designed to work with massive Zoo's, not the smallest free Zoo in America. This organization places demands on how you must build buildings and exhibits, all of which are a joke for such a small Zoo.
Remember this sign from the last bear?
And who can forget this deer in the Salisbury Zoo?

  1. When is someone going to listen to me - close that trap in the park called a zoo. Animals should be free, not in that trap.

    1. Once again, 9:24- who are you, when did you issued your discourse in the matter, how did you voice yourself in a matter for your elected officials to be able to listen, and why should anyone listen to you? Get over yourself and actually DO SOMETHING!

  4. It should be closed and the experienced personnel freed to pursue PRIVATE employment. (like most Government funded organizations)

  5. One can only hope it will get better care here. But I doubt it.

  6. With the veterinarian they are still using, the bear won’t last a month if that vet is in charge of medicating the poor thing.

  7. Didn’t they do any homework on this bear? Like checking out footage of its habits and appearance? Once burned twice shy!

  8. And it looks like WBOC sent people there with them to document this bear transfer. Why?

  9. They put a bear in a barren, sandy cage with no resemblance to his native environment.
It broke my heart to see that bear such desperate conditions.
Now, they want to do another bear like that???
    Who ARE these people????

  10. Sounds like we need a new Zoo Director and a committee he has to respond to like on purchases of animals.

  11. Don't worry. Jake will find a way to sell the property to a crony.

  12. 5,000 animals?? Does the National Zoo even have that amount? Is that a typo?

  13. AND this is a flood zone. Give us your tropical animals so we can let them winter over in cold damp Salisbury.

  14. 3:21, The City had covered up more then 5,000 animals deaths at the Zoo over some years. I delivered more then 5,000 Necropsy Reports directly to then Mayor Barrie Tilghman proving just how many animals were dying there from Avian TB, (for the most part). This was based on extremely poor care from multiple Zookeepers, (animal husbandry).

I delivered these same reports some 13 years ago to the Daily Times and they wrote a big article, (was supposed to be a three part story) exposing just how bad things are at the Zoo and the Mayor and Council freaked out on the Daily Times and they refused to publish the final two stories, claiming I had caused enough damage with facts and documents proving it to be 100% true.

Because the DT's refused to publish the final stories, I created Salisbury News. That, my friends, is how we were created. At the time the DT's had some 250 employees, now they have a couple dozen. I'd say we've awoken the dead and our communities have been getting the facts and truth ever since.

The truth hurts. However, it's the animals that have suffered for far too long. The current Director at that Zoo is a flat out JOKE! He sleeps in his office most of the day. The Zoo looks like crap and frankly the employees, (for the most part) couldn't care less. It's a job to them and nothing more. Not the kind of people I'd allow to dog sit for my animals, let alone defenseless animals caged up in a crappy Zoo.

  15. Let me add, if you want to learn about my history with the Salisbury Zoo, go to the top left hand corner of SBYNews home page and type in Salisbury Zoo in the search bar. ALL of the stories, (including dead animals) will come up. Many of you haven't been around all those years but it's a good idea for you to get educated on just what that crappy Zoo is all about.

  16. You'd think that a pair of brown or black bears would suffice, as 99.9% of the public will never see one in the wild, but noooo, Salisbury has to get all exotic about it.

  17. A few weeks ago we took some out of town guests to the Sby zoo. I was so embarrassed. It is an abomination and the city and zoo officials should be ashamed. Our guests were so upset and appalled at the condition some of the animals are living in. The alligator habitat is beyond unacceptable. A wolf or wolf like animal walked in circles constantly and the deer or whatever it was right next to the wolf was a nervous wreck. Shame on whoever the mayor is and shame on the zoo officials and anyone who has anything to do with that place. You have nothing and I mean nothing to be proud of.

  18. 9:24 is trying to take credit for Joe's hard work in exposing the zoo's many issues. What a Gerbronie! I never heard "you" say anything. Like...at all...nothing. Any exposure of the zoo has been by Joe and this site. You have done nothing. You are nothing for claiming to spear head any kind of change. You are a fraud, if you are claiming otherwise.

  19. I have lived here my entire life (61 years) and frequented the zoo often, beginning as a young child. I had a chance to walk through it last week after some time away. Having supported the zoo in many ways over the years I was shocked at the current condition. The whole park area could be such a gem for Salisbury. Unfortunately, the zoo has had it's better days and I see no path to former prominence. The shear cost of maintaining it is overwhelming considering the benefit to the community. More importantly, much of the neglect affects the caged and vulnerable animals in an unfair and horrific way. Time to make changes.

  20. WBOC dumped its Antenna TV Station 16.2
I guess they needed the money to send their reporters on the bear trip

  21. Too many big salaries to keep the zoo up.

  22. WBOC for the past 2 nights have called it their top story. Must not be enough news for them to cover. They never did talk about the church shooting in Texas on Monday night.

  23. What is on that deers head?

  24. 5:33 and 5:42 PM, I would never, ever take credit for Joe's hard work in exposing the atrosities at this so called zoo. I have gone to city council meetings and expressed my concerns about this trap and no one, and I mean no one, listens nor do they care. And just for your information, I am not a fraud, are you the pot calling the kettle black??? So, citizens keep on taking all your guests to that zoo trap and keep getting embarrassed because nothing in this stinking town will ever change.

  25. I’m confused.
I️ thought they were bringing back an Andean Bear as part of a conservation / breeding program, if that’s not the case then why get rid of the bear that was born in our zoo a couple of years ago to only spend tax payers $s to bring in a sickly bear ?

  26. They recently had to euthanize all the alpacas due to some mysterious disease too.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Were they euthanized because of a health related issue or did the current vet accidentally kill them with his inexperience with exotic animals?
