Millennials would rather live in socialist or communist nation than under capitalism: Poll

‘This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society’

A majority of millennials would prefer to live in a socialist, communist or fascist nation rather than a capitalistic one, according to a new poll.

In the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s “Annual Report on US Attitudes toward Socialism,” 58 percent of the up-and-coming generation opted for one of the three systems, compared to 42 percent who said they were in favor of capitalism.

The most popular socioeconomic order was socialism with 44 percent support. Communism and fascism received 7 percent support each.

Marion Smith, executive director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, said the report shows millennials are “increasingly turning away from capitalism and toward socialism and even communism as a viable alternative.”

“This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society regarding socialism and the systemic failure of our education system to teach students about the genocide, destruction, and misery caused by communism since the Bolshevik Revolution one hundred years ago,” Mr. Smith said in a statement.

Millennials are more likely to prefer socialism and communism than the rest of the country. Fifty-nine percent of all respondents chose capitalism as their preferred arrangement, compared to 34 percent who said socialism, 4 percent fascism and 3 percent communism.

    1. Entitled???? Lol! Look at the baby boobers! They havent seen a government hand out they didn't love and they run up this massive, crushing debt for us to pay since they will be dead when the bill comes in! Then, they want to cut investments in r and d, education, and job training for the next generations. You sir, are flat out wrong!

  4. The historical information that these young people need to know in order to make informed (i.e.- 'correct') decisions about these types of government has been systematically removed from curricula in the US for many years.. even replaced in some cases by outright propaganda.

From their perspective, socialism and communism just means everybody shares and relies on the government to meet their needs.

They are never told about how the 'heart of man' comes into play in these countries, and how it N-E-V-E-R works as advertised. The elitists who run it become corrupt, power-mad tyrants who set up their friends and extract what they need to live the high life from the worker bees (who never prosper and may not even live very long).

The blame for this lies squarely at the feet of our education system-- liberals indoctrinating gullible youth. And now we are reaping what has been sown.. our country is on the verge of destruction as a result of this.

  7. Listen, I am a millennial (1985). This poll is simply not true. While there are outliers, of course, most of us are mpre committed to the America we know and love. Articles like this are cherry-picked to inflame preconceived notions. Think about it this way- in the 1920s, over 1 million people voted for a communist presidential candidate? Am I to presume that the Silent/Greatest Generations were commie sympothizers?

  9. Thank a teacher! The Communist inspired unions have worked diligently to infect our children with every social disorder and morally bankrupt ideal they can.

  11. Conservative Teacher: Bless your heart.. it is you that is wrong wrong wrong.

YOU may not deprive your students, but most of the historical content relevant to this has long been deleted from the books.

And the teachers unions have shown their bias many times over the years, along with their agenda.

These kids DON'T KNOW what communism and socialism are all about.

  12. I really believe this poll would be much different if the millenials understood the history.

I don't blame them for their ignorance. It was willfully foisted upon them.

  13. 4:45.....your grammar correction was half-assed.
Further, no one EVER calls Finland or Denmark when there is a world emergency. They don't have the money or the power that capitalism generates.
CAPITALISM took 13 colonies and made them a superpower. DOMINATING the world (and saving it TWICE) in every aspect --- politically, socially, militarily, and economically. In 200 years. How's Finland doing?
They've been around for hundreds more years than the USA. Why doesn't anyone call that socialist powerhouse for help??
And Venezuela? Beautiful country. USED to have a lot of money and a big middle class until socialist Hugo Chavez took power. NOW, the police fire on crowds of civilians trying to find something to eat. And shoot to kill.
Quit confusing geography with political systems.
    More liberal pansy ass BS.

When you are young pup who has nothing, with no desire to work and make money for yourself, and you hear about the socialist propaganda about entitlements and pie in the sky, it all sounds good. Getting everyone same pay, government assisted housing and transportation regardless of productivity, sure sounds good to those lazy bums who wants to collect paycheck for doing nothing. Send these Snowflakes to sweatshops in China for a year and see how they like the socialist system.
