Former classmates say Texas gunman 'preached his atheism' online before killing 26

The Texas church shooter who shot dead 26 people and injured 24 others was an 'outcast' who 'preached his atheism' online.

Former classmates say Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, who stormed First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs in Texas and opened fire on Sunday, was 'creepy', 'crazy' and 'weird'.

Patrick Boyce, who attended New Braunfels High School with the killer, told DailyMail.com: 'He had a kid or two, fairly normal, but kinda quiet and lately seemed depressed.

'He was the first atheist I met. He went Air Force after high school, got discharged but I don't know why.

'I was just shocked [to hear the news]. Still haven’t quite processed how he could have done that.'

Nina Rose Nava, who went to school with the gunman, wrote on Facebook: 'In (sic) in complete shock! I legit just deleted him off my fb cause I couldn't stand his post.

'He was always talking about how people who believe in God we're stupid and trying to preach his atheism'

  1. I can see where this is going, his Atheism was the cause of his evil behavior. I don't buy that one bit, there are plenty of religious folks, devout even, that perpetrate these heinous acts and all in the name of God. Evil is evil regardless of how it is wrapped up. This bastard was just insane, plain and simple.

I feel that your moral compass is set at birth. No religion can make you moral without you first having a modicum of decency within you, to begin with.

    Just my two cents.

  2. He hated Christians, BUT I don't believe in hate crimes. A crime is a crime, period! He was a very evil man. A key to all of this is he started by abusing animals. Years ago there was a study and it showed that people that abused animals was a trait in ALL killers like this. Very interesting.

  3. Rebel: He HATED Christians. His hatred wasn't necessarily the cause of his rampage, because he was crazy, and acting that way, kinda like the demon-possessed people the Bible talks about.

Though it may not have been the direct cause, his hatred clearly drove him. It was pure evil.

  4. Yea, I'm pretty sure this is a mental health problem, and has nothing to do with "atheism".

It's a debunked argument, this "atheists have no morals". Even most clergy and religious higher ups will admit that you don't have to be religious to be moral, and that you'll find that most atheists are good moral people.

There are good and bad people everywhere, in every group.

This is a mental health issue. Nothing more.

Nature abhors a vacuum. If one does not have God in their heart, evil will enter and fill that void.

No one has to believe any of that, that is one example of free will. But it still is a fact.
