49% Favor Mandatory Military Service For US Youth

Nearly half of Americans favor mandatory military service for the country’s youth, according to a recent poll from Gallup.

As TheAntiMedia's Carey Wedler details, the polling organization surveyed 1,006 Americans over the age of 18 between November 3 and November 4, and 49% of those questioned expressed support for compulsory service.

Further, “a majority of Republicans, including independents who lean Republican, favor it (57%), as do men (57%) and those 65 or older (66%),” Gallup summarized.

  1. I was in the draft - and drafted during the Vietnam era right after I quit school.
Serving in the Army changed - and probably saved - my life, a life that was going nowhere fast up until that point.
Did I hate being drafted? Hell yes. But two years later I had a completely different and more positive outlook on my life.
Maybe more importantly, a different outlook on my country, something that lasts to this day.
I would support a draft today, but there ain't no way in hell that today's snowflakes would ever let that happen.

  6. The military was a turning point in my life. It gave me focus where there was none, opportunity to succeed where there was previously only a vacuum, increased self-awareness, a better ability to work as a team member, and the opportunity to become a leader, not a follower.

Everyone should do some sort of government service after high school or college. Consider it an investment in self, community and country.

  10. Will never happen, and not because people won't support it.

When people HAVE to serve, more people will pay attention to what the government does with the troops. There will be A LOT more opposition to military actions abroad, especially since almost none of them are "protecting freedom", especially American. Most of them are about protecting money interests.

A volunteer army can be controlled and manipulated while those who didn't enlist can look away.

  13. Yes! Automatic 4 years as soon you graduate from High School or turn 18 for MALES ONLY!!! But, I do not believe that females should be forced to register for Selective Service at all, unless she chooses to. There are still some families left that have raised their daughters as REAL women!

  14. Can you imagine being in an ongoing firefight and needing to depend on some of the young liberal airheads for support during the battle?
As it is, they are a burden on society and I wouldn't want them to burden the real men and women bravely serving in our Armed Forces.

  17. No thanks. I'm not dying for corporate interests. You can sell your patriotism somewhere else. I don't benefit from the wars, I don't benefit from cheap labor, I don't benefit from a great American empire. Go fight your own wars. Draft me and i'll shoot you in the back.

  18. Damn right the draft needs to be started again. But one year? NO, four years. This will straighten those young punks put real quick. Teach them some well deserved discipline.
