Wicomico County Announces Changes to Local Fire Marshal’s Office

At the Salisbury City Council meeting of October 9, 2017, new ordinances were passed that will directly affect and change the way business is conducted within the corporate limits of the City of Salisbury. As determined by the Mayor and City Council, Wicomico County will no longer be performing the fire safety functions and duties typical of the local Fire Marshal’s Office within the corporate limits of the City of Salisbury.

All business dealings for these functions will now be handled by the following Departments within the City of Salisbury government structure: Department of Infrastructure and Development (410-548-3170); Housing and Community Development Department (410-341-9550); and the Salisbury Fire Department (410-548-3120). Any questions should be directed to these City Departments.

  1. The mayor is trying to make a mini California out of Salisbury. He got a million dollars from the Governor to help rebuild downtown. The area that is mostly law offices making a million dollars a year. It's to bad that elderly don't come first to the mayor but metal fences on 50 do.

  2. Were we doing it previously for free?

  3. It takes 3 unqualified city departments to replace 1 qualified county department?

  4. Jake is an absolute idiot. He's trading $260,000 to handle this (and other Planning and Zoning tasks) for new staff, new facilities and a whole lot more salary. And guess who is paying for it?? That's right, the City tax payers! You all are idiots if you continue support this moron!

  5. It's no wonder businesses flee our area. There is no continuity in not only our State, but our local governments to. What happened to the 'One Stop Shop' ideology.

My advise to any prospective business is to stay-a-way from Salisbury.

  6. Wow. This has got to be the dumbest thing ever by the city. I actually like the mayor and his vision but he's dead wrong on this one. I work for a local contractor. The county fire marshalls are the best we deal with throughout the midatlantic area. Now we have to deal with fire fighters? How much is this gonna cost the city.

  7. Now the city will be screwing up like everything they get involved with.

    ReplyDelete
  8. So what once took only 1 county department to do is now going to take 3 city departments to do.

    Make sense to me... NOT!

  9. So when is Bob Culver going to get the balls to kick Jake Day and the City out of the Wicomico County Government Office Building where they have been mooching off of county tax payers for years???

  10. Permitting will be costly and passed on to developers...and no doubt new inspection fees will come about.

  11. Jake is setting Salisbury up to be a sanctuary city.

  12. A sanctuary city for displaced fire marshals?

  13. What do you all expect? Jake and his comrades are liberals and communists to the core.

They don't care what it costs, their only goal is to increase the size of government which also increases public jobs for their buddies.

The taxpayers aren't given any consideration because these kids think this is all free.

I'm leaving Salisbury soon enough so this doesn't concern me anymore, but my kids are here...for now. They too see the writing on the wall and will be following us to Florida, where real jobs are easy to find and taxes are low.

Jake and his commie ilk can have this place and Salisbury will never recover. But by then, Jake and his other co-conspirators will be long gone, off to some other government entity with no accountability.

    Good luck.

  14. This is all BS!! The "City of Salisbury" is A PART of "WICOMICO COUNTY", not the other way around. There should be NO "division" of the two. The COUNTY should TAKE OVER the CITY and end this BS making us "All for one and one for all!" Save the money, time and hassle - we don't need a "city", a "Mayor" or a pocket padding "City Council". I also think our "County Council" needs a good cleaning up. From what I have seen and am seeing Executive Culver is trying his hardest to do what is right and fair by the residents but there are too many fighting him - all for their OWN gain/profit.

  15. who is paying for this, tax and spend, so the residence of salisbury will be paying for duplicated services....Jake what an idiot. We don't want more government we want less government.......

  16. I have to say I was a big supporter of Jake's and am totally blown away with this change. I work with both departments on a regular basis along with the city office's and it has always been a pleasure. I truly believe this has all gone to his head. I am afraid Jake is turning into another Irton. Letting his ego get in the way. Jake is turning into another big disappointment like the last two mayors.

  17. It's time to stop annexations and to create business districts outside of the City limits of Salisbury. It can be done.

All the County has to do is start it's own Water and Sewer Commission and it's a done deal.

After this is done you will see businesses flock to Wicomico County because they won't have to pay city and county taxes. Not to mention they won't be in the Ghetto of da 'Bury. No crime in the business districts of Wicomico County and then you will see more jobs in the county as well as decent people moving to the area.

That's exactly what I just said.

Any you morons keep voting for this Moron as if he is doing great things for Salisbury. This is going to cost you MORONS a significant tax increase because someone has to pay for it and the city does not have any money.

You fools think that Jake Day gave you a tax break this year, but you were to dumb to see the increase in Water and Sewer and the other fees associated with services.

Yes Jake Day is an idiot. This is complete nonsense and you people are stupid for allowing it to happen.

  20. So let me think about this for a minute...🤔🤔🤔🤔

So Barrie Tilghman always whined about a Tax Tifferential.

Then Jim Ireton was working behind the scenes with that clown that accidentally got elected over Norm Conway to try to get legislation passed in Annapolis to force a Tax Differential from the County.

Now Jake Day is chumming up to Carl Anderton to force the Tax Differential on the County.

So now you see why the County isn't doing a Tax Differential, but you people don't understand and think it's not fair.

Well chew on this for a while🤔🤔🤔🤔. No one asked the city to duplicate services that were already being performed by the county. Here are just a few services that are being duplicated that shouldn't be:
1)Police services. The County has the Sheriff's Department.
2)Police Dispatching. Wicomico 911 already does dispatching, but they pass on the police calls in the city to the Salisbury PD and the City pays for duplicating this dispatching.
    3) Roads. Why does the City have it's own Roads Department when the County could do the same service with theirs.
    4) Parks and Recs. The City just started their own Parks and Recs department a couple of years ago while the County was already performing the service.

    Now this?
    5) Fire Marshal.

The County has already been providing the "Fire Marshal's" Office to perform. Fire Inspections, plan reviews, etc. and now the City of Salisbury is taking those duties away for the County who has been doing it for years with out any problems.

There are many other services the County provides and the City duplicates. So why do we need to duplicate services in the City when the County is already performing those services that we have already paid taxes for.

So the next time you hear Jake Day or Muir Boda complain about the Tax Differential you make sure to tell them that the County was already providing those services and the City doesn't have to.

    ReplyDelete
  21. City Parks & Rec has been around for decades, but not always in great shape or with good funding or leadership.
City park&rec programs are almost nonexistent because of funding and lack of interest at the top.
Now it's all about giving away free lunches in three parks in the summer, with almost zero activity programs.

  22. This is only 1st step for Jake's master plan.
Up next; the City will look to get a tax differential from county, to move city resident’s tax money back to city (it’s all about power/money).
At this point it's still a big gamble because the differential will not happen without county council and state help (watch out for Cannon and Anderton).

Stand by; the City could set itself up for a big tax increase.

  23. I thought the citizens of Salisbury finally elected a conservative Republican on the City Council when it elected Muir Boda? WTF happened to him??

No wonder it took that bald headed monkey with the Muslim Beard 7 times to finally get elected to something. You dumb A$$es elected another Democrat. Where is the outrage in the Republican Party?? Why aren't they giving Muir Boda Hell for this?? Muir Boda is a pure bred Democrat, registered with papers.

  25. It will be just another Office where an incompetent administration gets paid to provide an inferior service. Like the police department. The administration there can’t even keep the qualified officers they have. They have at least four senior officers right now in the process of being hired by other agencies and are willing to take a $10,000 pay cut to do it. Doesn’t that seem strange? You have several cops on stress leave because of Barbara Duncan and the two administrators beneath her. Why isn’t the mayor making sure that the police department is providing its citizens with a quality service? The turnover of good cops is higher than ever. Seasoned cops are going elsewhere. The chief is pushing a non functioning ($50,000 a year) Pred Pol down the throats of an under staffed, beleaguered work force while the murder rate goes through the roof. This is all happening right now. And they want to create a new law enforcement agency? They can’t even take care of the one they have!

  26. Jerk Day will need to find a buddy to hire as Director of Railroads to properly supervise this train wreck!

He may have been enrolled in fancy colleges but it's perfectly clear he missed a lot of classes and slept in the ones he dragged into.

He will 'bury the town in debt. The zoo will cancel the new bear and spend their time looking for another golden goose.

  28. Carl Anderton, the big disappointment.

I knew when I saw him, his friends Jackie Welfonder and Shawn Jester sucking up to Jim Ireton, Chuck Cook and Jake Day on Facebook I knew he wasn't a Conservative.

Look what happened to Jackie Welfonder. Became friends with that freak Molly and James Yakahomo and the Social Justice Warriors. Enough said.

  29. Great, now we have yet another layer of red tape to contend with. We will now have a City, within a County, and within a State, when in reality we don't need either one of the above. One simple Federal solution is all that's required. I agree with one of the above posters that warned businesses to stay-the-hell out of Salisbury. You are right on point with that observation.

Have you ever seen a Federal school system in your community?

  36. Joe I went to SalisburyPD.com and it instantaneously takes me to the old site and then it redirects me to the new I Love Jake Day site.

Then I went to SalisburyFD.com and it immediately takes me to the SFD homemade site, but not the new one.

Why is it that the Police Department can't keep their webpage, but the Salisbury Fire Department can keep theirs? Does Jake day have a boner of love for the men of the fire department?

    What's up with that?
