WASHINGTON, DC: On October 6, the Department of Justice issued guidance for federal agencies and executive departments to ensure the protection of the American people’s First Amendment right to the freedom of religion. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement in support of this guidance:
“The Trump Administration is leading by example on the issue of protecting the freedom of religion. I applaud President Trump and Attorney General Sessions’ commitment to protecting religious liberty. The free exercise of religion is a principle that our nation was founded on, and President Trump is keeping his promise to protect that freedom. I hope that this will end the offensive, coercive behavior of the federal government toward those with deeply held religious beliefs, such as the Little Sisters for the Poor, that was so rampant under the last administration.”
Can someone explain how the current administration is "protecting" religious freedom, and how the previous one wasn't? I'm not sure that I accept the premise.
