McCain blasts 'half-baked, spurious nationalism' in half-baked, emotional speech

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) blasted “half-baked, spurious nationalism” in the United States in an emotional speech Monday night after receiving the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal.

“To fear the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain 'the last best hope of earth' for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history,” McCain said in the speech.

The Arizona senator said “we live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil” and said Americans “are the custodians of those ideals at home, and their champion abroad.”

  3. What a looser. How can people still vote this Democrat in. They need to vote true Republicans to make a change.

  4. Before you put up your defenses... go back and re-read what he said. Don't let labels and division cloud your decision making.

What he said is pretty spot on. You've heard the expression "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a Bible...", I fear that as a Nation we are moving closer to this.

This new Nationalism almost has a religious fervor to it... it is unnerving. America isn't great because it's America, it is great because of liberty and freedom... I fear we have forgotten this.

  5. Lets not forget that the people making these comments live in a state that has only ever had 4 or 5 republican governors, gives its electoral college votes to the democratic candidate and have voted in the worst mayors in history for Salisbury.

  6. He says:
"the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe".

Let's think about how great we've been for:
    Vietnam
    Iraq
    Libya
    Syria
    Afghanistan

McCstain is a low-life mouthpiece for the MIC. And he's no hero either. He led the cover-up of Americans left in southeast Asia. The sooner the brain cancer takes him the better.

  7. "We have done great good in the world. That leadership has had its costs, but we have become incomparably powerful and wealthy as we did."
    1. Yes, we have done great good in the world. Yet how does the rest of the world feel about us? A great deal of the world hates us. They would like nothing better than to come here and destroy us and take over our country.
    2. We have become incomparably powerful and wealthy in the past, but then our illustrious leaders decided to redistribute the wealth. Not from the wealthy down but from the middle class down. I used to belong to the middle class. Haven't been there in at least ten years. Now solidly in the lower class. Yet has any politician lost anything? I would love for someone to find me just one. A politician who has lost a dime that is. Between the outright lying, cheating, and stealing we also have Big Pharma paying everybody on the hill to keep us poor peasants paying the highest amount for drugs as anybody in the world.

"We have a moral obligation to continue in our just cause and we would bring more than shame on ourselves in we don't. We will not thrive in a world where our leadership and ideals are absent.
`1. What morals? This country has no morals anymore. You guys kicked Christ our of every place you could kick him. You passed laws to make gay marriage legal. Half of the country runs around next to naked in their style of dress. Mr. McCain himself kicked his first wife to the curb after her disfiguring accident and then he got real wealthy when he married his second wife. Real moral behavior there John.
    2. Let us talk about ideals John. You know, the ideal that the law applies to regular people as well as politicians. Where in an ideal world Hillary Clinton would be in jail for her MANY crimes. Where in an ideal world Obama couldn't take my middle class insurance and raise the rate so high I can't afford it but can sign up 9 million more people who wouldn't work in a pie shop tasting the damn pies for free insurance. Along with free phones, and fee rent, and free freaking everything. Are those the kind of ideals you are speaking of John? We have been screwed so much by this point that the only thing I personally have to be glad of anymore is that Jesus loves me and I am old. I won't be around to see just how bad you can screw us before it is all over. Why don't you try sticking to the ideal that you are a Republican and ran on a Republican ticket and said you wanted to repeal ObamaCare. Oh, that's right. You probably forgot. Must be due to the brain tumor, right?
