Cold War Radiation Testing in US Widespread, Author Claims

Three members of Congress are demanding answers after a St. Louis scholar's new book revealed details of how the U.S. government sprayed, injected and fed radiation and other dangerous materials to countless people in secret Cold War-era testing.

The health ramifications of the tests are unknown. Lisa Martino-Taylor, an associate professor of sociology at St. Louis who wrote "Behind the Fog: How the U.S. Cold War Radiological Weapons Program Exposed Innocent Americans," acknowledged that tracing diseases like cancer to specific causes is difficult.

Her book, published in August, was a follow-up to her 2012 dissertation that found the government conducted secret testing of zinc cadmium sulfide in a poor area of St. Louis in the 1950s and 1960s. The book focuses on the mid-1940s to the mid-1960s.

Among those who recall the testing is Mary Helen Brindell, 73. She was playing baseball in a St. Louis street in the mid-1950s when a squadron of green planes flew so low overhead that she could see the face of the lead pilot. Suddenly, the children were covered in a fine powdery substance that stuck to skin moistened by summer sweat.

Brindell has suffered from breast, thyroid, skin and uterine cancers. Her sister died of a rare form of esophageal cancer.

"I just want an explanation from the government," Brindell said. "Why would you do that to people?"

  1. They also secretly infected Black men with syphilis and studied their health declines so this doesn't surprise me.
This is why people are kneeling for the pledge, and it has been made the top story for weeks because the Elites in media want us divided. There is a lot of agreement on both sides. It all comes down to what the flag represents to you. The players and activists see the flag as a representation of stuff like this that the Government has done. Our side sees the flag as what has historically unified us, even against our own Government. Make the argument about the issues instead of the symbols and we could actually find enough common ground to make great strides. That's why MSM will continue to make this about the flag.

  2. The government took of GIs from the Deal Island southern Maryland area and put them through chemical testing upon entry into the service during WWII. Then they "had a fire" and lost all of the medical records. I fought for medical (VA) coverage for my father for years after he started having flashbacks as to what happened to his unit. I finally told the VA that there was 2 ways to look at this problem. If they couldn't find his medical records (due to a fire..yeah) then THEY had to prove what he was saying was lies. They stopped fighting me the moment I hired an attorney and gave us all the medical equipment and needs he had until the day he died. I have no doubt that what he said really happened because he was a very strong man until the he got older and he would cry about what they did to him in the testing chamber. REAL STORY folks ...on local GIs.
