OC’s Disturbing Peace Sign Effort Growing

OCEAN CITY – Officials in Ocean City are making an effort to ensure business owners place signs that warn of disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace laws prior to the resort’s fall events.

The efforts are part of an ordinance that requires businesses that front major arteries in the resort, including Coastal Highway, Philadelphia Avenue and Baltimore Avenue, to install signs warning residents and visitors of state laws against disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace and the enforcement of such laws.

The town passed the ordinance in 2015 in an effort to suppress illegal activity at vehicle-related special events, but enforcement measures fell by the wayside until this year.

Since July, the town has made an effort to enforce the longstanding ordinance.

In a Police Commission meeting Wednesday, Ocean City Police Chief Ross Buzzuro relayed ongoing efforts to install the signs. He said the town has distributed 186 signs to 122 properties.

  1. Why saddle the police with this task. Shouldn't Public Works handle it?

    1. The Police, as represented by union, get paid more than public works employees. We are busy enough picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, and driving buses to do the OCPD job too

    2. Why saddle the business owners with the police job? Why intimidate that tourists, or let them know that OC has gotten so bad that we need these signs?
In OC Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace are usually catch all's if they don't like what youre doing but it's not illegal. They arrest a TON of people in OC but then they all get charges dropped or reduced to PBJ and a slap on the wrist in court.
I love how OC is quick to arrest anyone but we have 100+ Sunsations in giant block long buildings, with all items under $5, and no customers. No questions get asked about this obvious criminal enterprise because they pay WAY more in rent than they should to the landlords... the same ones who run the town.
See SBY is bad, but it's just as bad as everywhere.

    3. Driving buses? You are doing Transportation Department's job too? Y'all are busy.

  2. What about the amusements on the boardwalk / Amusement parks and game establishments on coastal highway / Bars loud music blaring outside the establishment? Is there going to be equal justice for all under the law? Does the City Council understand their own ordinance or will it be enforced selectively?

You have some nerve asking someone else what they are smoking. Are you still drunk from last night?
