Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said of America’s current hourly wage floor, “$7.25 minimum wage is a starvation minimum wage.” Dozens of other Democrat leaders say $7.25 isn’t “a living wage,” and 22 Senators support Sanders’ bill to raise America’s minimum wage to $15.
If they think $7.25 per hour is bad, what about $7.25 per day? That’s about what the newly increased minimum wage is in the world’s largest democratic socialist nation.
This week, the Russian government approved an increase in their monthly minimum wage to 9,489 rubles starting in 2018. 9,489 rubles converts to $163.34 in American dollars. Yes, $163.34 per month. Divide that by 30 days in a month, and that’s $5.45 per day. If you want to go by workdays in a month, there are an average of 21.8 workdays per month, so the Russian minimum wage would equate to $7.49 per workday. Divide that by eight working hours per day, and it equates to $.94 per hour worked.
While Democrats in the U.S. are fighting for a $15 per hour minimum wage, the Russia’s new minimum will be half that per day.
