Correctional officer charged after attack on cab driver

A New Jersey correctional officer was arrested on Aug. 19 after he screamed racial slurs at a taxi driver and allegedly attempted to attack him.

Around 2:27 a.m., a cabbie reported to police that a white man later identified as Gerard P. Doyle, 34, of Bergenfield, New Jersey, had destroyed his passenger side-view mirror while the taxi was parked at 53rd Street. The mirror was “dangling from its housing by the electrical cords,” according to police reports. The taxi’s interior digital fare display also was destroyed.

The taxi driver said that he was waiting for fares when Doyle opened the front passenger door, sat inside and refused to shut the door. When the cabbie told him to shut the door, Doyle allegedly balled his fists up and struck the fare console.

Doyle also reportedly screamed “I’m a f****** police officer, you n*****, see my badge?” He then showed the driver his correctional officer’s badge and threatened him.

  1. Perhaps a little anger management awareness refresher training is in order? You think?

  2. AAAANNNDDD, he will walk free and the cabbie will have to pay to get his cab fixed. The cop will keep his job and do this over and over until he kills a couple three. Then he might get leave where he will get a cop job in another state.

  5. 7:45 Not a cop, he is a correctional office(aka prison guard). He only beats up on people after they have been arrested not before(except of course when it "appears that he has been drinking"). Definitely deserves some prison time himself. People who can't handle their drink or drugs shouldn't do them.

  6. 844, he's an OFFICER of the LAW. Sorry about the microscopic difference in my comment, but even YOU have to agree that my overall comment will be true. He'll walk just like the rest of you do.

He is not an officer of the law. You must be one of those prison guards that like to think you are Law Enforcement. You are not and neither is he. You clowns have minimal training, don't carry a gun and you don't have the authority to arrest.

  11. He is no "officer". He is a paid babysitter for people who break laws, usually statutory ones at that. They are usually greatly out numbered by the ones they watch over. I wouldn't want their job nor do I think they should receive any special consideration for their choice of career.

Power corrupts. He not only abused his position he assumed power he does not even possess. (police officer)

That is another charge added to the assault and battery and terroristic threatening.
