Health officials have detected swine flu in 11 pigs in a second Maryland county fair, just a week after seven people contracted the flu from infected pigs at the Charles County fair. The Maryland Department of Agriculture said Sunday that the 11 sick pigs at the Great Frederick Fair are now in quarantine, WTOP reported.
“The symptoms were high fevers, coughing, reluctance to move and mouth-breathing,” Dr. Mike Radebaugh, of the state’s agriculture department, told WTOP.

Shame to hear that Rosie O'Donald, Nancy Palosie, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and several other Democrats are so sick.
ReplyDeleteThat's why they call it swine flue!
ReplyDeleteThe owners of the sick swine should be held responsible for all the sick people's medical bills. They had to sign a consent form guaranteeing the animals health.
ReplyDeleteThese animals are suppose to be checked by a certified vet before they are allowed to be shown in the fair. Is the Maryland Department of Ag responsible for this illness outbreak or did they hire an outside Vet? I think if this is the way these fairs are handled they should be shut down totally. This flu can cause death in the elderly and the very young. I know I will not be going to farm shows until this issue is cleared up and we hear from the MDA as to how these animals are screened. Very serious issue.
ReplyDeleteTransmission of flu from pigs to humans is rare but when it does occur it has been known to be fatal. I'm glad they caught this in 2 fairs and I hope they will continue to be alert for the sake of young children who interact with these animals.
