The parents job is to teach their children and to learn that there are consequences if they don't obey the rules. Sadly, today it is too much of an effort for the parents to do their job.
Not true. We never spank or hit our son. In fact we teach him that hitting, violence, and revenge are wrong. We explain to him "why" and don't just say because I told you so.
We don't "nerf" anything for him and teach him to not fear but to respect.
He is exceptionally well behaved and has great manners. He's almost four, so yes he does noodly headed 4 year old boy stuff.... but for the most part every time we go somewhere we get compliments on how well behaved, how charismatic, and how good a child he is.
He does come from a home where both parents take time with him, love him, read to him, have meals at the table...etc... so I'm sure it helps...
But I find no compelling reason that hitting a child will accomplish anything but teaching that violence is o.k. and that might makes right.
That's all well and good for a 4yo but he will change as he gets older. I have seen it myself. Kids are wonderful creatures. They will examine every little thing around them. And like most people, they will manipulate things to their benefit. And they will push boundaries, just look at any teenager lol.
I applaud your efforts and short term victories but they will not last, at least not on their own. I don't like hitting kids myself because it truly does hurt me more than them. But there will come a point when it becomes necessary.
There is a big difference between spanking a child to ensure compliance than there is to child abuse. Most reasonable people know that difference and do not cross that line. There are some however that do cross that line and they themselves need correction.
I will go along with the Bible on this one. Whether one believes it or not, it does contain solutions for every life problem. Owners manual if you will.
I agree 100%.

Child abuse is always the answer.

My son turns 17 next month and I never once hit him. He is kind, considerate and respectful. We raised him on love and reason, not fear and pain.
