Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams called for the removal of the giant carving that depicts three Confederate war leaders on the face of state-owned Stone Mountain, saying it “remains a blight on our state and should be removed.”
“We must never celebrate those who defended slavery and tried to destroy the union,” Abrams said in a series of tweets posted early Tuesday, a response to the deadly violence sparked by white supremacist groups in Charlottesville, Va.

ReplyDeletethis is just ridiculous. where are the level headed grown-ups? someone needs to stop all of this hysteria before we do end up in a civil war!
ReplyDeleteThe Fascist movement is backed by the media whoever owns the media is the enemy of America.
ReplyDeleteNo one is defending anything we might have done in the past, BUT who are YOU to erase our history (the good, bad and the ugly)...Mind YOUR own business and leave our history alone.
ReplyDeleteSir, you are an idiot! you are only doing this to garner votes from the clueless DEMS. period. SHAME on you.
I hate it when they use the term Democratic. He is a Democrat gubernatorial candidate, not a democratic one. Liberals are in no way democratic.

ReplyDeleteI'm a history buff, and never owned or aspired to own slaves. History happened, and it was not solely about slavery.
The Confederacy was an armed revolt against the United States, and it proved unsuccessful. Fact. Subsequently in both North and South statues and monuments were put up at various places and times by a variety of groups or governmental units. They provide a host of teachable moments, even today. Mob action is not a fruitful pathway.
Let's use these monuments as an opportunity to learn and talk about events then, and progress made since 1865, and to have a civil (in all senses of the word) discussion about what other steps forward we can build a consensus about as a county, as a state and as a nation under our Constitution.
What's the saying...."Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it"..or something along those lines.
DeleteIf we erase history, good or bad..how do we learn from it?
The African flags don't belong here / Quanza / Black History
ReplyDeletemonth / statues of Black heroes
If Whites can't have theirs and others have theirs .....
The Racist Blacks try to start New things all the time
and don't accept being American , like the Flags

All the culture talk makes me sick > Your damn Culture is
American >> so get used to it !!!!!!!!
These monuments and statues were NOT Cheap !!!
ReplyDeleteWhoever wants to take them down should have to PAY back to
us taxpayers for what they had Costs ......!!!!!
Isn't rewriting history in Alinsky's book?
ReplyDeleteI was born white years ago and remain white. Well, a privileged white now. In fact I am 100% white in my opinion. But, you can't blame this on black racist all together because if you look there are a lot of dumb a-s so called white folk in the mix. Sometimes it looks like the biggest percent pulling this black crap, are white dumb a-ses.
ReplyDeleteSame thing ISIS does for monuments they don't like!
ReplyDeleteThe American Taliban are here! Anarchy prevails.
ReplyDeleteIt's not removing history. It is stopping the making of heroes out of murders and traitors like Lee and others.
ReplyDeleteActually, the Union was much more murderous or have you forgotten about the burning of Atlanta and the Sherman's violent march to the sea to overtake Savannah. All those monuments have to go, too, 354. Those who did the Sherman march, raped women and burned homes down to the ground. Union statutes must go! They offend many, too!
ReplyDeleteOh Great now we will have of the black leaders up there. SMH
ReplyDeleteLets REMOVE the Demon-crats from our country

Thomas Jefferson and George Washington owned slaves. Do we remove monuments to them?
ReplyDeleteyup get rid of all of them, including mt rushmore. this way it will be easier when we go for all the religious icons/statues, etc. which is really where we are headed with this political bs!
ReplyDeleteIf they want a fight, I think they will find one at Stone Mountain.
ReplyDeleteWhy does the Goverment own the mountain?
ReplyDeleteI really wish all these haters of monuments would send me all their money, after all the people they hate are pictured on money so they must hate that too. I'll be glad to take it.
ReplyDelete8:43 got it right.
ReplyDeleteI know some folks around Stone Mountain.
If you want a REAL fight, start messing with that monument.
Those people tend to mind their own business, but if you start minding it for them, you might get shot.
Especially if they find out you traveled from Virginia or New York to start trouble.
You get shot multiple times.
There are a LOT of sniper positions available and those boys hit what they shoot at.
Go ahead, fire up that sandblaster. Try to stay low and behind it.
Good luck.
