A Public Relations Loser For Ocean City

No matter what happens with the appeal effort planned, Ocean City will lose in the court of public opinion regarding the white building on the east side of the Boardwalk near South Division Street.

That’s largely because Ocean City has not made it clear why it wants to take over ownership and operation of the property. It may in fact own it, according to an easement that dates back decades, but the reason for wanting to take over active ownership of it now has not been clearly stated.

Instead, Ocean City is in the role of the bully, giving the Rapoport family until the end of October to boot Dumser’s Dairyland, the property tenant, and demolish the building by year’s end. It’s an odd order and ultimatum from the city, particularly when it came to light there’s no public safety concerns and in fact no immediate intentions for the property.

  2. OC is doing it simply because it can.

  3. Disagree completely. A deal is a deal, whiners/cry babies of the Rappoport family and Dumsers just have their handout and want a freebie.

  4. "A Public Relations Loser for Ocean City." This headline is the norm, week in and week out. Come on, until there is a change at the top, mixed messages will continue.

All the automation upgrades in the world still can't get City FAIL out of the 20th Century!

  5. Meehan - won't someone step up to the plate and defeat him in the next election? Nobody even ran against him in the last one. And why not? Because he's so popular with the realtors and others. Nobody cares that he's running this town into the ground; everybody wants to impress their friends with, "I know the mayor" and "Hi Ricky!" The crime here is a direct result of his ghetto marketing plan and his orders to lay off the thugs. Good people and yes, families, are opting elsewhere for a safe, fun, reasonably priced vacation. Meehan controls the media here and tourism is down despite what his minions say. The police are very unhappy that they are overworked, yet their hands are tied. And now, he's bullying people instead of working out the problem. He only does that when he's got overwhelming odds. What a sissy!

  6. There is a right way to do things and this way. It appears that OC has not done anything but issue an ultimatum. Why not have a sit down and discuss options unless there are none. In the event that OC forces Dumser's out, we will never set foot in OC again.

  7. OC officials are basically pick-pockets - I have read about similar comments earlier on this blog, and I tend to agree. Bottom line - the citizens and taxpayers of OC are basically SLAVES to the municipals workers. The City Manager makes a killing, the OC police chief makes a mint, and most the entire municipal staff (planners, building inspectors) are vastly overpaid - particularly given the fact that the City is only operating at about 100 percent - 9 months out of the year.

By virtually every definition, the OC residents have become indentured slaves.

  8. Losing all Dumsers in OC will kill OC forever. Might as well raze all wooden buildings serving as BnB's built before 1990 and replace them with high rise concrete. No more nostalgia, and chase Thrashers out as well. ''Just replace anything about OC that was made before 2000 and we'll all be good, right?

You can still sell it as a "Family Resort", right?
How can rick be so stuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid??????

Good point. I didn't even think about Thrashers.
