A Historian's Response to the Councilman in Baltimore Regarding Confederate Monuments Removal!

If this is the case then when are they removing the Harriet Tubman (SU) and Alex Haley (Annapolis) monuments?

If you're going to scrub history, you need to scrub it all without discrimination. Remove them all -- all monuments and statuary.

This is no different than Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini's rule during WWII when all their history was scrubbed and the regime put up their own monuments.

It will come a day when Americans who wish to study American History will have to go to Japan or Europe in order to learn.

By the way, just so you clearly understand, when you remove the history that also means Slavery never happened

Can't have it both way, kids. If you're going to live by the sword so shall you perish by it!

  1. I agree if you get rid of one get rid of all monuments. If a person is offended it must go.

  2. Only the beginning. Next they will come for any monument to a white man in American history who the communists and leftists decide is not to their liking.

  3. Those confederate statues are not the sole source for American history. Their removal signifies that we do not idolize those who wished to keep men in chains.

Why would we take down the Harriet Tubman statue? Are you equating a confederate general (officer/soldier/what have you) to a woman that risked her life to free those who were wrongly imprisoned?

Do you think that Germany should have kept the statues of facist leaders after the downfall of Hitler? After all, by your logic they are a part of history, no? Should the free Jews have to look at the men that imprisoned and killed them glorified in a statue?

  4. 253 You obviously cannot read. All statues gone! No statues for no one. Period. Got it or do I need to get my red Sharpie and write it on your forehead?

  5. Incidentally, 253, if you knew Nazi Germany history, then you would understand the Russians and American forces destroyed all the statues and monuments because they bombed the hell out of Germany. Been to Dresden lately? Still war-torn from the Second World War.

  6. Uh oh 2:58 is an internet tough guy. Perhaps it's you who can't read judging by your double negatives. So because we're tearing down the statues of those who committed egregious crimes against humanity we should also tear down those who fought against these injustices despite the penalty of death at the hands of the aforementioned confederates!?

You can keep your red pen, I'm guessing you have a great affinity for it after all it's probably what you saw most as a child all over your homework.

  7. Like I say they are ignorant idiots when it comes to history. The history they are making is very dangerous.

  8. 305 I must have skipped Nazi German history day, give me a break. Sounds to me like they destroyed the statues made in the honor of leaders who committed atrocities against man. Sound familiar?

  9. But there are reminders just look at the concentration camps left as memorials and reminders of just what evil one man did to others. You learn from your mistakes and history.

  10. What leaders, 316? When you have no history, you have no leaders! Try harder, lovey.

  11. George Washington owned saves.

So by that rationale, Anon 2:53, the Washington Monument has to go!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Washington who, 318?

Yes, the Washington Monument should go along with the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, along with the Holocaust Museum and Black History at the Smithsonian. Take it all down. No history here!

  13. The founding fathers are their ultimate target, They had to get the ball rolling on tearing down historic markers once that is in place it's easier to get the main target. There is a reason they don't teach kids about their constitutional rights in school it's easier to take them a way when ignorant to their existence.

  14. If truth be told Harriet Tubman was nothing but a criminal. She broke the laws of the times. She was no different then anyone else who was breaking the law. Typical blacks idolizing criminals.
And 2:53 honey you really need to get off the Eastern Shore and see how it is in the real world. The concentration camp areas in Europe there are many statues still and photos of the Nazi hierarchy so yes the many Jews who visit the camps do look at the statues. They are the way the are practically the day they were liberated.
That's the problem with you people 2:53 from these podunk backward areas. You are not sophisticated or worldly and live in a mist of forever being offended. It's a real shame. A real shame. You are so not living life just existing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 3:08. Yes Tubmans statue needs to be torn down along with all of the others. If one needs to go they all need to go. Enough is enough

  16. and if we take it all down... thats it no more slave talk no more racist talk no more BLM No more Harriett Tubman no more MLK and so on...

Hitler and the other Nazi leaders never allowed statues of themselves, no painting and very few photos. But FYI and others Germany, Poland, Austria and other countries have historical markers all over signifying highlights of the Nazi regime and reign. So yes "free Jews" are all day long looking at and being reminded of "the men that imprisoned and killed them."

  18. There shouldn't be any statues of Harriet Tubman anywhere. She was not only a criminal of the time but she was a horrid woman. She not only conspired with a terrorist of the time John Brown but being the horrid woman that she was she threatened to kill any run away slave in the group who wanted to leave after having second thoughts! She forced people to do something against their wished with the threat of death. She was a very evil person. No there should not ever be a statue or any mention of such a disgusting person as Tubman. This is one of the many major character flaws blacks have. They turn the worst of the worst into idols and this is one of the main reasons they have all the social problems they do. Unfortunately they can't seem to comprehend this fact.

  19. 2:53 the problem with you people is that to put it bluntly-you are clueless. Tubman wasn't all that great and if truth be told she was quite bad. She forced people into the underground by threat of being shot. She carried a gun with her and forced the frightened and the sick to keep going unless she would point blank murder them. She left people abandoned to die alone forcing their families to leave them in the dying process. She was a cold evil woman.
She was heartless. While yes she may have done some good again if truth be told so did Hitler. Did that make him a great person?
It says much about your character and lack of morals and others when you ignore the bad in people and hold them up for only what they did good.

  20. Erase all evidence of slavery and stifle any reference to reparations, Get rid of any affirmative action, and accept no more excuses that my grandjemima was a slave.

  21. Like it or not, the Civil War happened. Lincoln should've never declared martial law on South Carolina when they wanted to leave the Union in a tariff war with the Northern states, whom were much wealthier than the South. What Lincoln did was actually unconstitutional and a gross overreach on the Federal Government's lot. The South was fired upon by the Federal troops and BOOM! Civil War.

You people need to get the hell out of the sticks for a change and really study this country's history. If you did, you would be shock and amazed at this country's real history instead of the garbage you're fed by a government-run propaganda machine. You would understand things a lot better. Ignorance is surely not bliss, my friends. You really need to get a clue (and an education!)

  22. We also need to scrub that bit in history where Japanese Americans were imprisoned in concentration camps here in America during the Second World War, too. Yes, imagine that, America had concentration camps of their own. Who know?

  23. When's the local book burning going to begin? The public library is closed but it opens later this week. We need to burn all the books we don't agree with like To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, Catcher & the Rye. We need to burn them all. Redact the Encyclopedias of all information about the Civil War, the founding of America, all of it needs to go, too.

  24. This is exactly what the Bolsheviks did when they assassinated the Czar and his family in Russia. They scrubbed all the old Russian history and made new Russia completely sanitized. Welcome to Communist Russia. We've got the Pravda thing down now. Let's move on to the history portion of this overthrow!

  30. 2:53 Yes Harriet Tubman no matter her intentions was breaking the law. By your logic anything we disagree with it's okay to go against even if it's against the law. You do know that is extremely uncivilized and backwards reasoning. And yes Harriet Tubman did use threats of death against people who were struggling and/or ill and were having second thoughts of turning back. She was not this great person all are led to believe she was. I believe most of the 300 or so who made the journey successfully ended up being turned over to fight in the Union Army so free they really weren't. She was being directed by Union Army Colonel
    Montgomery.

  31. 2:53 There are Third Reich building with monuments and statues outside of Nazi leaders (not Hitler though) all over Germany some in public areas. The buildings are opened to the public for tours.
You have to realize Europeans unlike most Americans are sophisticated and cosmopolitan and more importantly educated. They don't find these places of history as reminders of the horrors nor do they find them offensive but as an important reminder of the past. They want the lessons to stay in public consciousness so the events never repeat themselves.

  32. Spain too still has statues and busts of the dictator Franco on public display in public areas. Europe doesn't erase their history like the US tends to do or pretend something didn't happen.

  33. 436 I agree with most of what you said; however, we've all seen how some blacks hang their white hate on something they were never even a part of to begin with. Neither were their relatives. They use the slavery thing to act entitled even though no one in their families were even here in the US at that point. I've met people who have genuine reason to be upset about slavery because their relatives were slaves. Of course, they are most historians who believe in preserving history so it's not repeated. Ironic, isn't it!

  34. By eradicating the history of the Civil War, no slaves and no need for Harriet Tubman memorials either. Look at all the federal money which will be saved if we do away with all this museum and monument hubbub. No need to have any of them because there's nothing to remember and it's clear nothing has been learned from them.

  35. Historian, I wouldn't mind going to Japan to get educated. Americans have no clue how good they have it because most haven't been out of their own backyards much less the country for any serious length of time. I also wouldn't mind attending Oxford. Apparently, they'll let anyone in, if you know what I mean.

  36. And a Taney statue needs a place right next to Harriet Tubman's and vice versa! A history of each to tell all that our Supreme Court Justices do not equal "good" and a black lawbreaking human trafficker is not all bad. That's about as educational as you can get on that subject!

    Thank you, Historian!

  38. and while youre at it. take out all the memorials in DC. After all there are several war memorials there. Most of the monuments or markers being targeted are war memorials so get rid of all of them. Also take the MLK Monuments and memorials. Take one, take them all. These monuments/memorials have been in place for years and nobody has had a issue with them and now all of a sudden they must all torn down. most of the people seen protesting them and calling for their removal are white people. what is that your white guilt? Your white shaming? Why is it that the whites are the ones with the problem with them? AntiFa=communists=Progressives=big Govt Hell just wipe out all US history, take it all the way back to Columbus. oooppps oh silly me they already have. The main agenda behind all of this it one major target. Its already been called a outdated piece of paper. Without that paper those in elected office can do what ever they want. With that piece of paper is your rights. Without it, you have no rights. Democrats have been eyeing that piece of paper since the days of the Clinton's. That piece of paper is the only thing that stands in the way of a big Govt take over. They are trying now. And these shills are falling for it. They have no clue that they will be enslaved by the Govt along with the rest of us. I hope they enjoy those scraps that are being thrown to them by the Clinton's and Soros because that to will come to an end. AntiFa are Communists! No rights left to the people!

"Those confederate statues are not the sole source for American history." No they are not the sole source, but they are our history whether you like it or not. If you don't like them look the other way. Something tells me most of us don't like you anyway.

"Their removal signifies that we do not idolize those who wished to keep men in chains." Those men didn't wish to keep men in slavery. Typical indoctrinated Libtard clearly doesn't know History. Did you know that over 95% of Southerners didn't own any slaves. Try again you dumb moron.

"Why would we take down the Harriet Tubman statue?" What makes you think Harriet Tubman is worthy of a statue. She is a criminal that constantly broke the law.
"Do you think that Germany should have kept the statues of facist leaders after the downfall of Hitler?"
Comparing the Confederacy to Nazi Germany show just how dumb, stupid and ignorant you are. There is not F'n comparison. The Nazi's killed 6 million Jews, how many innocent people did the Confederates kill?? ZERO, NILCH, NONE you ignorant moron.

A group of Misfits came in there today and demanded that the County Council remove the General John Henry Winder plaque immediately! What a bunch of weirdos. If anyone on the County Council votes to remove that plaque for that racist group of "Social Justice Warriors" I will personally write checks in to your opponents and my family and eye will be campaigning day and night against you.
