Woman, 24, 'was texting when she hit and killed two girls'

Authorities say an Ohio woman was texting on her phone when she struck and killed two 14-year-old girls with her car, and critically injured a 15-year-old boy.

Twenty-four-year-old New Franklin resident Natasha Boggs was arrested and jailed Friday.

She's charged with voluntary manslaughter, vehicular homicide, driving while texting, tampering with records and other offenses.

Boggs is accused of hitting three teens in Coventry Township on May 28, killing Taylor Galloway, of Akron, and Amber Thoma, of Coventry Township. A 15-year-old boy was also injured. Another friend who was walking with them was uninjured.

  1. I sadly have to drive Rt 50 from OC to Sby twice daily. I see so many people texting it is pathetic. Its not just the young drivers either. 2:17, they do have check points, where they will pull people over, it does happen. I think it is the MSP that conduct those. I saw one on the off ramp near the mall late last year. Imo, I think when they do these mass pull overs, people get pissy because they were just on the phone, that the MSP should worry about bigger things. I also believe they are now able to pull you over for just a phone in hand, nothing else is needed.

  2. The laws against driving while using a handheld cellphone or texting are a joke. They aren't enforced unless there's another reason for the vehicle to be stopped, or if there's a crash or a tragedy like this one. If the intent is to make the roads safer by reducing cellphone use, it's not going to be realized without enforcement, and that just isn't happening.
How important was it that this young woman send a text message to her buddies, or to anyone else? Important enough to take two lives, endanger another and forever screw up the lives of herself and four families, including her own? Not likely. She will carry this guilt for the rest of her life.
There's no excuse for this, none at all.

  7. 3:35 I'm not sure what the point of your post is. I own a business that requires I communicate frequently with clients and employees. I never, and I mean never, text or read text messages while I'm driving. I do not answer my private or business phone while I am driving. I value my customers and my employees but my responsibility is to be in control of my vehicle and to do my best to avoid causing or being involved in a collision. The world worked just fine before people had the ability to be in constant contact with others. No text or call is worth jeopardizing someone's family member.
