What Happens When Walmart Decides To Close A Store?

At the beginning of 2016, Walmart did something unusual. The mega-retailer closed 269 stores, 154 of which were in the United States. While Walmart also opened hundreds of stores around the world last year, keeping its net store count the same, its pullout was devastating for rural communities where smaller retailers had closed their doors when Walmart came to town.

    This article was a nothingburger.

    First Wal-Mart is bad because it puts local businesses out.

    Then it's bad because it moves out, for whatever reason.

    Article points out local optometrist did well by providing services the W-M vision operation didn't. And W-M gave baked goods and veggies to the Food Bank. And was a social center. Also notes that a lease kept W-M from selling groceries which has become a big part of their business plan; probably was another grocery in the same locale which had insisted on the clause in its lease.

    Bottom line: If the store was meeting sales and profit expectations it would still be there. The rent is due whether they are open or not.

    A sale is a sale regardless of the merchandiser! If I can get XX product cheaper than somewhere else, WHY would I pay more???

    Plus I think Walmart is beginning to scratch their head since Amazon/Amazon Prime is undercutting their prices.

    I know there's been lots of news happening in Salisbury lately, but if no one has noticed - a merchandising war has begun!!!!

    In the long run a community will be better off without them. Eventually another store will come along to file the void. I do my part by only shopping at local privately owned businesses and restaurants. The money stays in the community, and they appreciate your business!

    Say what you want about WALMART, they are the place the most people shop! They are successful because they are what people want; one stop shopping!

    I never step foot in Walmart and I live less than a mile from one.

    Worst customer service ever.

    3:51, I don't go there for customer service, most people don't, so its not a big deal.
