The chief executive for PBS is sounding the alarm about public broadcasting's future if federal funding is axed as called for by President Donald Trump.
"PBS will not go away, but a number of our stations will," CEO Paula Kerger said Saturday. "There is no Plan B for that."
PBS' share of the roughly $450 million in federal funds allocated for public TV and radio goes largely to support public TV stations nationwide, a number of which rely on it for up to 50 percent of their budgets and can't survive without it, Kerger told a TV critics' meeting.
At the end of the day, "what legislators most care about is impact on their own communities," Kerger said, encouraging people nationwide who care about public broadcasting to let their representatives know.

I will miss the travel shows, Nova, and Nature. I won't miss the liberal PBS news hour. I can still find quality programming through Amazon and Netflix and Curiosity stream through my Roku for science programs.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye PBS, it was a good run!
First, show us a map of where stations might fail and how many viewers there are for each of them.
ReplyDeleteSecond, take the preferential politics out of PBS's airings.

ReplyDeleteif they cant make it on thier own, they dont need to be on the air
Good! Why should my taxes pay for liberal propaganda.
ReplyDeleteI'll bring this up again- I know NPR is not PBS, but there are 6 public radio stations broadcasting in our area- WSCL and WSDL from Salisbury University, WESM from UMES, WDDE from Dover, WYPR from Baltimore (they have a repeater in Ocean City) and WAMU from Washington, D.C. (they also have a repeater on the Eastern Shore).
ReplyDeleteHow is this not a total waste of taxpayer money? Why won't someone look into this?
I would like to suggest that those who listen to PBS be the ones to give it monetary support. Leave the rest of us alone. Make them sign up and pay out of their pockets, and keep your hand out of mine.
ReplyDeleteToo bad,go out and fundraise for a living.
ReplyDeleteGood Riddance!
ReplyDeleteI like some of the shows on PBS, but I will not send money to them because they have shows like Charlie Rose. Rose has guests on who do nothing but bash our president. Word to PBS: do not bite one of the hands that feeds you.
ReplyDeleteI love Grantchester and Poldark on PBS.

ReplyDeleteAs has been said many times, if it is so good, it will be supported by the listeners/viewers.
The time for tax subsidies is long past.
NPR/CPB are a large part of the democrat's propaganda system. Anyone who claims that the public broadcast outlets are 'balanced' or 'neutral' are simply lying, or foolish.
PBS does have a vital role in providing educational programs that service the needs of all Americans. They need to refrain from any and all partisan political reporting. In the past, PBS has shown some outstanding historical videos about the history of America.
ReplyDeletePBS notoriously donates to Democrat candidates. They don't need your money. So be it. If they sink, they sunk because of their own misappropriation of funding - not because the Feds cut them off.
ReplyDeleteGood riddance & take the AD COUNCIL with you!
ReplyDeleteLoad the torpedoes, lets sink this boat!!!
ReplyDeleteLets kill off Barney and Big Bird as well!
No more PC police brain washing our children!
Barney and Big Bird are quite capable of making it on their own, thank you. They generate millions in licensing fees and there are many children's networks that would pick them up in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteSee ya NPR.....
