Mailman appears to pepper spray dogs in security video

HOUSTON (KTRK) --A northwest Houston family wants a mail carrier disciplined for spraying their dogs with what appears to be pepper spray even though security video shows the dogs posed no threat.

The Cruz family's three dogs were outside last Thursday but behind a closed gate when the United States Postal Service mail carrier approached to deliver the mail.

Jose Cruz says what happened next was shocking.

His home video shows the carrier spraying the three lap dogs until they retreated. A thick metal gate separates them from the mailbox and the mail carrier.

  1. how long postmen been dressing like rappers? The carriers in my town wear a uniform as do the ones in town post office.

  2. You obviously haven't seen all of the postal services finest. Hats on backwards, non hemmed shirts meant to be tucked in hanging out, tennis shoes, walking down the street and driving with earphones in or talking on phone

  3. I would want him fired. He approached the gate knowing what he was going to do next. Unnecessary!

  4. That is animal cruelty without question, and he needs to be charged and judged and punished!

  5. He's a total jerk and I would really be mad if those were my dogs. Absolutely no need to spray those dogs.

  6. He's a miscreant, the kind of person who beats his own dog and leaves it chained to a tree 24/7.

  7. Just wait outside and spray him when he walks up.

  8. Now that everyone has bashed the postal carrier that has to deal with unconstrained dogs every day, as part of his JOB, homeowners should just keep their dogs in the house when their mail is being delivered. It can be considered harassment to leave the dogs out when the mailman is expected to make his daily rounds. I have no sympathy for the dogs or their owners. No lasting harm was done to the animals. If the owners want to avoid the discomfort to their animals, then they should avoid the discomfort the dogs give to the mailman making his dutiful rounds. The inconsiderate should not expect others to be considerate of them.

    1. They are behind gated fence. No harm to the poor excuse for a human being.

  9. They're behind a gate on the owners property!
There was absolutely no need to do that and
    he should be punished.

  10. The real problem is that people these days have no compassion for others, human or otherwise. It is simply not being taught to them anymore.

  11. @9:31, he was just exerting typical behavior. He had no right to spray those dogs. They could not get to him and were too small to hurt the poor mailman anyway. He should be fired for this and dressing like a thug too.

  12. He's dressed like a thug or gang member. I'd bark too if I was a dog. I'd spray his ass next time he came back and I'd have his sorry ass fired. He better be glad that wasn't my dog or I'd bust his ass next day .

  13. There's no telling what time of day mail will be delivered, so keeping dogs inside when the postal carrier comes is impossible. Those dogs were of no threat to that man, and he had no right to pepper spray them. He should be fired.

As for the way postal employees are dressing, I agree 100% that they should ALL be in uniform. The mail carriers that deliver to my workplace look like they were working in their garden. It really is a disgrace. I am shocked that sweatpants, shorts, tee shirts, etc. are permissible attire for any job!
